Begin in Reykjavik, the vibrant capital, before exploring Lake Mývatn’s volcanic terrain and the steaming Hverir Geothermal Area. Witness the power of Dettifoss and, seasonally, visit the Askja Caldera and Vatnajökull National Park.

Discover the famous Golden Circle, relax at Sky Lagoon, and admire majestic waterfalls including Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, and Svartifoss. Explore the black sands of Reynisfjara, the icebergs of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lake, and nearby Diamond Beach. Continue to Þórsmörk Valley, volcanic sites like Fagradalsfjall, Merdalir, and Keilir, Lake Kleifarvatn, the Bridge Between Continents, and end with a soak in the Blue Lagoon.

day 1 - Riding a horse or taking a Boat

From mid-June through September, the tour begins in Akureyri, Iceland’s second most visited city, with a whale-watching excursion. From October to early June, whale watching is replaced with horseback riding near Reykjavík. Between September and early March, a night tour to search for the northern lights is also included.

Note: If your party has fewer than 2 people, the tour starts in Reykjavík year-round. For summer visits with 2 or more people, starting in Akureyri is possible at additional costs.

day 2 - Waterfalls and Lake Mývatn day trip

As a land daytrip from Akureyri (mid-June through September) or a flight daytrip from Reykjavík (October to early June), visit Goðafoss Waterfall, Lake Mývatn, the Hverir geothermal area, and Dettifoss Waterfall. Goðafoss stands 12 meters high and 30 meters wide, while Lake Mývatn was formed by a massive basaltic lava eruption 2,300 years ago, surrounded by dramatic volcanic landforms including lava pillars. Dettifoss is known as the second most powerful waterfall in Europe.

Note: If your party has fewer than 2 people, these sites are visited via a flight daytrip from Reykjavík, even during the summer months.

day 3 - Askja Caldera hike or Sky Lagoon

Today’s activities depend on the season. From mid-June through September, as a daytrip from Akureyri, hike Askja Caldera and visit the Viti crater, where you can bathe in its pond. In the evening, fly to Reykjavík. From October to early June, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Reykjavík and a soak at the stylish Sky Lagoon geothermal spa near the capital. Children under 12 are not permitted at Sky Lagoon.

Note: If your party has fewer than 2 people, Askja Caldera is replaced with a Reykjavík sightseeing tour. For summer visits with 2 or more people, Askja Caldera is available for an added cost. Typically, during summer, the Sky Lagoon visit occurs the following evening.

day 4 - Golden Circle day trip

Today’s daytrip from Reykjavík explores the famous Golden Circle. Visit Gullfoss Waterfall, which plunges 32 meters over two drops, the erupting Geysir/Strokkur geyser that can shoot boiling water up to 70 meters, and Þingvellir National Park, known for its dramatic rift valley shaped by tectonic and volcanic activity.

Note: For summer visits (mid-June to September) with 2 or more people, the Sky Lagoon geothermal spa is typically visited this evening. Children under 12 are not permitted in Sky Lagoon.

day 5 - Southeast coast waterfalls and Black Sand beach

Depart Reykjavík and journey along Iceland’s stunning southeast coast. Highlights include Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, where you can walk behind its 60-meter drop into a fascinating cave; Skógafoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s largest at 25 meters wide and 60 meters tall; and the striking Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, ranked by National Geographic among the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world.

day 6 - Thorsmork Valley via glaciers and ice

Today we travel to Thorsmork Valley, visiting several stunning sites along the way. Explore Skaftafell Nature Reserve, whose landscape resembles the Alps but was shaped over thousands of years by the forces of fire and water. At Jökulsárlón Glacial Lake, admire icebergs rising up to 910 meters—a location featured in A View to a Kill, Die Another Day, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Batman Begins.

Visit Vatnajökull National Park’s natural ice cave, with canals of water running through the glacier, and Diamond Beach, where icebergs from Jökulsárlón float onto the shore.

day 7 - Thorsmork Valley Hike and Natural Highlig

Before returning to Reykjavík, hike through the breathtaking Thorsmork Valley. Highlights include Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Stakkholtsgjá Canyon, Nauthúsagil Canyon, and Gígjökull Glacier. This area is widely regarded as one of the best hiking destinations in Iceland.
