Itinerary

The Annapurna Circuit Trek stands as one of Nepal’s most renowned adventures, drawing trekkers from around the globe to its dynamic landscapes and cultural riches. This classic trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Syange, setting the stage for a journey that weaves through terraced fields of barley, rice, and potatoes in the lower Annapurna Conservation Area.

The trail’s crowning achievement is the crossing of Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, flanked by the majestic Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I. From there, descend through the sacred site of Muktinath and follow the Kaligandaki Valley—the world’s deepest gorge—toward the charming apple-growing village of Marpha.

Rejuvenate in natural hot springs at Tatopani, then trek through vibrant Magar and Gurung villages en route to Poon Hill (3,210 meters), where the sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges leaves trekkers spellbound. Panoramic views of three eight-thousanders—Manaslu, Annapurna I, and Dhaulagiri—are a constant companion, with an array of other Himalayan giants lining the horizon.

day 1 - Drive Kathmandu to Beshishahar then to Khudi

We begin our Annapurna Circuit Trek today taking a drive from Kathmandu to Khudi via Besisahar. We follow the scenic drive enjoying green landscape views, rivers, waterfalls and small local settlements on the way. We will stay overnight at guest house in Khudi.

day 2 - Trek start from Khudi to Sirung

Khudi is the starting point of the trek, from where we start slowly trekking along the river banks of Marshyandi River. In the first day of our trek, we will then ascend and come across the beautiful waterfalls during this trek. We will then stay overnight at local guest house in Sirung.

day 3 - Sirung to Jagat

Today will be an exciting day when we will leave behind the beautiful river streams enjoying the beautiful panoramic views of Annapurna Himalayas along with stunning landscapes and culturally rich villages. Also you might like to capture the best views of Himalayas in your camera. At the end of the day, we stay overnight at local lodge at Jagat.

day 4 - Jagat to Dharapani

After having our early meal, we start our day continuing through forested lands and rocky surroundings. The going gets easier out of Tal and continues along an impressive, wide valley upwards along stone staircases until we reach the village of Dharapani.

day 5 - Dharapani to Chame

The trail is fairly level from here for about an hour until after emerging out into a clearing which has a couple of tea houses and fields. We then descend to cross a bridge and climbing out we pass through Thanchok Village with its apple orchards. We reach Koto in about thirty minutes from Thanchok village and another thirty minutes to headquarter of Manang district, Chame.

day 6 - Chame to Pisang

After having our early meal, we continue towards Pisang today. We make our way through the dense forest, pass along the trail enjoying superb views of meadows, landscapes and glimpses of Himalayas. In this way, we gradually push ourselves towards Pisang which takes around five to six hours approximately. We stay overnight at Pisang.

day 7 - Pisang to Manang

It will be quite a drier walk on our Annapurna Circuit Trek today as we arrive at upper region of Manang. The Annapurna range cuts off the clouds and monsoon and this place receives very less rainfall. We come across a very picturesque village clinging on to a cliff side where the houses appear to be stacked on top of each other. Then we arrive at Bragha village which is dominated by the oldest monastery of the region more than 500 years old. As we reach at Manang at our end of the day we stroll around the village and set up a acclimatization day tomorrow. Overnight stay at lodge in Manang.

day 8 - Acclimatization Day at Manang Village

Proper acclimatization is important before trekking above 4000 meters of altitude and it will be our acclimatization day today as we explore the local village, enjoy the beautiful landscapes, visit ancient monasteries, local schools, and also hike towards Gangapurna glacier lake. At the end of our day, we return to our guesthouse for overnight stay.

day 9 - Manang to Yak Kharka

After getting properly acclimatized to higher altitudes, our body begins to adopt according to increasing altitudes. We leave behind the Marsyandi Valley and trek along the Annapurna Circuit Trail of Marshyandi Valley. We get to experience the herds of yaks and slowly the we get to see the alpine vegetation. We stay overnight at tea house in Yak Kharka.

day 10 - Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi

Today after having our breakfast, we ascend for couple of hours, then we will descend towards river then again climb 200 meters straight towards Thorong phedi where we can find a basic yet decent tea houses. We stay overnight at Thorong phedi.

day 11 - Muktinath (3,800/12,467ft) via Thorung La pass

The most important, rewarding, exciting yet challenging day awaits ahead of us today, as we cross the Thorong la pass located at 5416m above sea level. You will feel like surrounded by snow capped Himalayas from all around. The panoramic views of Annapurna Himalayas and surrounding snow capped mountains are out of this world. After Thorongla achievement, we trek further around four hours that takes us to pilgrimage site of Muktinath. We stay overnight at local guesthouse in Muktinath.

day 12 - Muktinath to Marpha

We start our day after waking up early in the morning, having our early meal; it will be an easy downhill trek towards Eklai Bhatti. Enjoying the great landscapes, we finally arrive at Marpha, the beautiful village famous for its apple products. The trekking trail is quite windy today, therefore it is better if we cross the trails before noon. Overnight stay at local guest house in Marpha.

day 13 - Marpha to Kalopani

We will follow the Annapurna circuit trekking trails further passing through local tea shops. The route becomes much flatter as we hike along the Kaligandaki river with excellent views of Dhaulagiri and other neighboring peaks. The journey continues towards Kalopani and finally we stay overnight here. Kalopani offers beautiful himalayan views so we stay in Kalopani although we have plenty of time to hike to nearby villages if we want to hike more.

day 14 - Kalopani to Tatopani

Enjoying an amazing views of Annapurna Himalayas, we push ourselves towards Tatopani. As we cross Kalopani, we can see the deepest gorges in the world that separates the Dhaulagiri with Annapurna. The major attraction of the day would be the natural hotspring where we take a dip and relax, re-energize. We stay overnight at Tatopani.

day 15 - Tatopani to Ghorepani

Today, it will be an amazingly challenging day while ascending more than 1500 meters from Tatopani to Ghorepani passing through beautiful culturally rich villages of Chitre, Shika and others. From the trails, we also get an opportunity to get the glimpse of capturing excellent views of Annapurna Himalayas. Overnight stay at Ghorepani.

day 16 - Hiking -Poonhill (3210m/10531ft), trek to Tadapani

We wake up early and reach Poon Hill before sunrise so that we do not miss the magical moment. It is a wonderful experience watching first ray of sun over the mountains. This is one of the best mountain vistas and is well worth the effort taken to climb to Poon Hill (45 minutes climb). Himalayan view from Poon Hill is indescribable when the rising sun’s rays gradually strikes the Himalayan giants including Dhaulagiri range, Annapurna South, Tukuche, Manaslu, Fishtail, and so many others. We spend some time picturing at Poonhill and return to Ghorepani, have a hot breakfast, and continue our trek to Tadapani through rhododendron forest. Overnight stay at Tadapani.

day 17 - Tadapani to Ghandruk and drive to Pokhara

During the final day of trekking activity, we gradually walk through the forests, explore beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk in the afternoon. In this way, we conclude our Annapurna Circuit and take an hour drive towards scenic lake city of Pokhara. Overnight stay at hotel in Pokhara.

day 18 - Drive back to Kathmandu

We return towards Kathmandu on a scenic 6-7 hours of drive. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you will be invited to have farewell dinner at one of the cultural restaurant. Finally our Annapurna Circuit Trek comes to an end.

Annapurna Circuit trek March 2018

Coming from Australia I can say that the Annapurna Circuit is like nothing I've experienced before. Behind the closest hills are higher hills, behind those serious mountains. Not long into the trek and I'm higher than anywhere in Australia. The climb up to Throng La Pass is literally breath taking but the sight of the flag covered market is a thrill. Down the other side and on to Ghorepani and the sunrise from Poon Hill. Spectacular. Should have allowed more time in Pokara
