When to go to Chile
Corresponding with the country’s high season, the best time to visit Chile is from December to February. These months see the highest temperatures – of up to 30°C – and little rain. While you can explore most of the country from Santiago to Tierra del Fuego during this time, we suggest that you coincide your trip to fall between the months of June to August if you want to discover the Atacama Desert, as the winter season falls during this time in the Southern Hemisphere. Plus, you can also enjoy skiing and snowboarding at resorts such as Valle Nevado and Portillo. Learn more.
How long to stay in Chile
Stretching more than 4,000 kilometers from north to south, Chile is a relatively large country, which means that taking in all the top attractions will need at least ten days. Discover the winelands around Valparaiso or take a road trip in Chile’s Lake District. Then head out to discover Patagonia, where icy glacier walls plunge in the deep blue sea and craggy peaks loom over spectacular landscapes. Tackle a handful of trekking routes on offer in Patagonia if you have two weeks to spare. Make it three weeks in Chile and you can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Easter Island. Learn more.
Must-visit destinations in Chile
It can be tempting to leave Santiago as quickly as possible, but its central areas have some fascinating monuments from the colonial era. For street art, culture, and a bohemian vibe, stop by Valparaíso. In Patagonia, Torres Del Paine National Park boasts some of the world’s finest mountain landscapes, glaciers, and adventuring. While there, you might as well go on a road trip through the Carretera Austral. Atacama’s Moon Valley has a completely different series of vistas, with the geysers of El Tatio being a particular highlight. Finally, Easter Island’s remoteness and intriguing history make it an unmissable stop for anyone heading for Chile. Learn more.
