Overnight in Puerto Natales

Optional: FD tour to Torres del Paine and Milodón Cave
The Full Day Torres del Paine tour begins at your accommodation in Puerto Natales, heading towards Villa Cerro Castillo, the capital of the Torres del Paine commune, located 59 kilometers to the north. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes, providing ample time to discuss and interpret the diverse landscapes, including the dense Magellanic forest, glacial valleys, mountain ranges, and lakes along the route. Weather permitting, we may also spot condors in one of the many nesting areas along the way. Our itinerary continues to the Sarmiento Lake viewpoint, the first photo stop offering views of the Paine Mountain Range. With good weather, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Torres del Paine massif, the southern extension of the Andes, and the imposing Sarmiento Lake. From here, we proceed to one of the most spectacular viewpoints facing the granite towers at Laguna Amarga, a favorite habitat for flamingos due to its ideal feeding conditions. Next, we head to the main entrance of Torres del Paine National Park to register our entry tickets and continue with the itinerary. The following viewpoints include Lake Nordenskjöld, Salto Grande viewpoint, Pehoé viewpoint, Weber Bridge, Paine River, and Grey Lake. At Grey Lake, we will have time for lunch and a walk around the area if weather conditions allow. We then return to the vehicle and exit Torres del Paine National Park through the southern section. Our final stop within the park will be at the most impressive viewpoint on Route Y-290, known as Grey Viewpoint. From here, we can observe the western mountain ranges of the province, the vast Lake Toro, and, if the weather permits, a section of the Grey Glacier. After about an hour's drive, we will reach the final destination of the day, the Milodon Cave Natural Monument. This protected area is the second most visited site in the Magallanes region after Torres del Paine National Park. Our guide will provide detailed information about the site's historical significance, including ongoing archaeological and paleontological research. At the end of the visit, we will return to Puerto Natales, concluding the day with the satisfaction of having experienced a unique adventure in this corner of the world.

Important: This tour includes entry fees to Torres del Paine National Park, Milodon Cave, and shared transportation with a  English Guide.

The difficulty level of this tour is medium level.

Optional: FD trekking excursion to the French Valley
From 06H00 we start the pick up in Puerto Natales and depart to the Pudeto sector to cross Lake Pehoé and continue to the French Valley along a clear path that runs along the north shore of Lake Pehoé. After a few minutes there is a slight ascent that allows you to leave the lake behind, and appreciate the Cuernos del Paine ahead (2,600 meters above sea level the highest). Then the trail becomes winding, and penetrates a flat area with little vegetation, due to the persistent wind. Then you cross an estuary on a wooden plank. It passes at the foot of Punta Bariloche (2,600 meters above sea level). After 30 minutes you reach Skottsberg Lake, known for the occasional eddies that the wind forms in its waters. The trail continues along the western shore of the lake, with a view of Paine Grande (3,050 m.) the southernmost "tresmil" in America, as well as a minor waterfall and some glaciers to the left. Several springs come from the slopes of the hills and cross the trail. You will continue your hike along the Skottsberg Lake to get an incomparable view of the Paine Grande massif, with the majesty of its ice. Continue towards the Italian camp with a spectacular setting, facing the Paine Grande and the French Glacier. From here you can continue towards the interior of the valley, one of the most beautiful corners of the entire park. The route into the interior of the French valley (the intermediate vertical line of the "W") begins at the Italian camp and after an hour and a half you will arrive at an open and windy place called Mirador (680 masl), from where the valley is dominated by a beautiful view. To the east you can see the mountains Hoja (2,200 m), Espada (2,500 m), and Fortaleza (2,681 m). Towards the south the lakes Nordenskjöld, Pehoé and Toro are visible. Then the trail returns to the shade of the forest and becomes less demanding. The trail continues in the shade of the trees along the same elevation, parallel to the French River. The notorious Shark's Fin Hill (1,717 m), so called because of its similar shape, is visible. The trail leaves the forest to an open area, which is a second privileged viewpoint. After concluding with the view of this wonderful panoramic view, you will return to the Paine Grande sector to board the boat that will take you back to the Pudeto sector and start the return to the city of Puerto Natales, arriving at the end of the day.

day 6 - Puerto Natales

Enjoy your day at leisure or book an optional tour. The optional tours might be physically challenging as they may involve hikes and treks. We suggest booking optional tours accordingly.

Overnight in Puerto Natales

Optional: HD excursion to the Cerro Benítez Rock Paintings
You will discover the traces of the past and for this you will head north of Puerto Natales. A little more than 25 km away, you will begin a day of exploration walking through the Archaeological Park located inside the Estancia Ernesto Helmer. The tour offers views of imposing mountains, crevices, overhangs and valleys. In the sector it is possible to access the roosts of condors that dominate the skies and once you reach the summit you will have a spectacular panoramic view of the Eberhard Fjord, Señoret Channel and also the iconic Sofia Lagoon. Cerro Benitez is part of an archaeological and paleontological sector that houses cave paintings of approximately 3,500 years old. You will visit the cave of the window and then by the southeast side you will enter the hidden cave, place that you will enter with frontal lamps and in tip and elbow. This cave has an approximate height of 4 meters and its size is approximately 70 square meters. In it you will be able to observe millenary stalactites that were formed as a result of the accumulation of salts and minerals due to the filtration and constant dripping of water during thousands of years. Once this adventure is over, you will leave the cave towards a set of overhangs called "Dos Horseshoes". On this journey you will walk through lush forests to finally observe the cave paintings on the walls of this rocky structure that was once a seabed.

Optional: FD trekking excursion from Portería Sarmiento to Laguna Amarga in Torres del Paine National Park
An excursion that joins two of the four accesses that Torres del Paine National Park has, allowing you to visit a little known and very attractive sector for wildlife observation. Its scenic environment is undoubtedly a site worth visiting. When you enter the park through the Lago Sarmiento gate, the trail begins with a gentle slope with a side view of the imposing lake of the same name. Almost all of this trail borders private land, a common hunting area for the largest predator in the region, the Puma. After an hour's walk you will arrive at an overhang where it is possible to observe a series of cave paintings dating back more than 6,000 years. The conditions of this sector allowed it to be frequented by indigenous groups for thousands of years in search of food throughout the American continent. At this site you can photograph the environment and understand the rugged geography associated with the rise of high peaks and huge tracts of land to the east. After 2 hours of hiking you will arrive at the main access to Torres del Paine National Park: Laguna Amarga gateway. Before starting the descent among conglomerate rocks, it will be possible to observe the sinuous shape of the Paine River. After a stop to use the restrooms, you will return to the vehicle to go to the Cascada Paine sector. The journey continues to Cañadón Macho, an area where it is possible to observe large groups of guanacos that coexist with species such as the Ñandú, Gray Fox, Condor, Black Eagle, among others. After passing through this extensive valley, you will return to the city of Puerto Natales with the sensation of having experienced a true day of adventure, far from the crowds and in the wild surroundings of Southern Patagonia.
