When to go to Bhutan
The monsoon season lasts between the months of June and August in Bhutan, which means that the chances of disruption in travel plans are higher during this time of year. Nonetheless, if you are willing to brave the elements, you will have the whole country to yourself during the rainy season! September to November is arguably the ideal time to explore Bhutan as the weather is great and no clouds block the views of the Himalayas. Spring (which lasts from March to May) is a good time too, except for the fact that it might get cloudy. Learn more.
How long to stay in Bhutan
It is possible to cover the top tourist sites in Bhutan’s major cities in five days or less. If you have a week, you can explore the capital city of Thimphu and its surrounding areas, like the beautiful 12th century Changangkha Monastery, and combine it with a visit to the sacred sites of Paro. Trips to intimidating dzongs and hikes through pristine mountainous forests are not out of bounds if you have between nine to eleven days to spare, which is also our recommended duration for a vacation in Bhutan. Must-visit destinations in Bhutan
Bhutan’s ancient Buddhist culture, fortresses, and monasteries along with its scenic, expansive vistas are an irresistible draw. Marvel at the mountainous landscape of Punakha and Haa valleys as you trek through primeval oak and rhododendron forests, past tiny villages lost in time. Learn why Tango Monastery is Bhutan’s most important religious center after an exhilarating, 90-minute hike to reach it. Visit the dzongs of Trongsa and traverse the Druk Path, an ancient trail used by shepherds to travel between the two major cities of the country. Finally, a Bhutan adventure cannot be complete without a visit to the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery.
