day 1 - Bhutan arrival and sightseeing tour of Paro
You will be welcomed by an amazing view of the Himalayas as you approach Bhutan. We will receive you at the airport and drive you your accommodation. Check into the hotel before heading out for a guided tour of Paro.
See some of the important sights of this city, including Dungste Lhakang, a 15th-century temple; Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery; the National Museum of Bhutan; and Kichu Lhakhang, Bhutan's oldest temple. Stay overnight in Paro.
day 2 - Paro – Thimphu
Head for Paro Taktsang, popular throughout the world as Tiger's Nest, after breakfast. Built on the face of a cliff in the late 17th century, this monastery is said to have been the place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated for three years.
The hike to the monastery takes around four to five hours. Lunch will be served at the restaurant located halfway up the mountain. Enjoy enchanting views of the Paro Valley before making your way down. Drive to Thimphu next. You will be staying in Bhutan's capital city tonight.
day 3 - Thimpu – Wangditse Goemba – Thimpu
Drive up to the BBS Television Broadcasting Tower in the morning and then hike up for an hour to reach Wangditse Monastery, from where you can enjoy great views of Tashichho Dzong, a Buddhist monastery and fortress; Samtenling Palace; and Dorje Drak.
Follow the way downhill to reach Thimphu. Set out on a sightseeing tour of the capital city. See some of the major landmarks of the city such as the National Memorial Chorten, Drubthob Goemba and the majestic Tashichho Dzong.
Also see the gigantic Buddha Dordenma, Takin Sanctuary, National Library, the National Institute of Traditional Medicine and the mini zoo.
day 4 - Thimphu – Punakha via the Dochu La Pass
Drive up to the Dochu La Pass (3,100 m), a mountain pass on the way from Thimpu to Punakha in the morning. See the 108 memorial chortens and, in case the sky is clear, enjoy great views of the Himalayas including Mount Masanggang (7,158 m), which is the highest peak in Bhutan.
The pass was part of an ancient trail between Thimphu and Punakha. From there it is a 2-hour hike up to Lungchutse Monastery. Follow the trail down to the pass and drive downhill through rhododendron, fir and hemlock forests after lunch.
Stop at Metshina en route and take a 20-minute walk through rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple dedicated to the Divine Madman (Lama Drukpa Kuenley). Stay overnight in Punakha.
day 5 - Punakha – Paro
Drive 12 km north of Punakha in the morning to the base of the hill where the majestic Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Choeten is built. From the car park, you will have to cross a suspension bridge and walk through rice fields before you start climbing a moderately inclined trail surrounded by pine trees to reach the choeten.
This temple was built over a period of 9 years, with Bhutanese craftsmen, carpenters, painters, and sculptors consulting only holy scriptures rather than engineering manuals to construct it. This choeten is a splendid example of Bhutan’s rich architectural heritage and artistic traditions.
Enjoy a spectacular view of the Punakha Valley from the temple. On the way back, you will visit Punakha Dzong, one of the oldest and largest dzongs in Bhutan, built in 1637. Drive back to Paro in the afternoon and spend the night there.
day 6 - Departure
After an early breakfast at your hotel, we will drive you to Paro International Airport from where you can catch your flight home.
