Another great holiday with Explore on the Turquiose Coast. Zep, our guide, was exceptional and was great fun, albeit attentive to each individual's needs. The Hideaway Hotel in Kas was a perfect base for our daily walks along a stunning area of natural beauty. Swimmers were in their seventh heaven at all the beaches we visited! Highly recommended - our weeks stay ended far too quickly!
This was my first Explore trip and I didn’t know what to expect. I always travel on my own so I was a little nervous about travelling in a group with people that I didn’t know but I need not have worried as the trip was amazing and I had a great time! I had no idea if I would be able to keep up with the group (of 6 plus the guide) or if my fitness levels were good enough so, although the walks were challenging at times it was just the right balance and the harder parts (scrambling up steep hills, along narrow ledges with rope to guide or on rocky paths) were intense but totally manageable and I enjoyed the challenge and felt a great sense of achievement. I found the itinerary to be a good mix: from walking through beautiful pine forests, up mountains, along the coast, being able to swim in the most gorgeous turquoise blue sea to visiting some ancient sites and open air museums such as Patara and Myra and we enjoyed having lunch with a local family. Turkey really is a beautiful country and even more-so in spring when the temperature was perfect, all the spring flowers were out and everywhere was lush and green. We were in safe hands with our amazing guide Alper, he was so calm and generous and walked at just the right pace that suited us all. We stayed in the cute Hideaway Hotel in Kas, the staff were great and the rooms were clean and comfy, the breakfast in the lovely breakfast room was very good with plenty to choose from. Kas itself is a lovely little town with loads of great restaurants and the food was very good. I would highly recommend this tour and Im so glad I did it as it was just enough (for me anyway) as I wasn’t too tired and could also enjoy some quiet time after the walks, we were usually out about 5-6 hours a day which was 3-4 hours of walking, plus travel time and a swim so just perfect for us. Thank you!
Explore trips never disappoint ! Great variety of walking days ! Zep was a Lovely fun guide and helped with all our desires ! Thanks very much
Rugged terrain with breathtaking views. Great variety in each day’s walk. The accommodation was perfect. Spacious room with annexe, as well as balconies. Fridge always welcome. The staff were wonderful and breakfast selection fresh and varied each and every morning. Our guide for the week was Zeynep. She has such a cheerful character, it is infectious. Great positive energy and loved by all. She shared history about each area we visited in a fun and informative way. She was attentive and helpful each and every day. A real credit to your organisation.
We absolutely loved the trip. the Hideaway was a beautiful place to stay right by the Turkish baths and the Amphitheatre. The staff were so helpful, the room clean and setting and food was fabulous. Each day of the trip brought us a new adventure. The group gelled very well together and out guide Zainab was fun, flexible and helpful and knowledgeable.
The Walking the Turquoise Coast tour was a fantastic experience. The scenery was stunning and the walks were very enjoyable. We had time for a swim in the sea each day, which was lovely. It was a great experience to have lunch cooked for us by local families on two days, The tour leader Alper, was outstanding. He was really well organised, so that the tour ran very smoothly. He was always cheerful and helpful and he had great local knowledge. The accommodation was good, with the hotel being very close to the centre of Kas. I would definitely recommend this tour.
I loved this holiday. Great group and we did get the weather! Walking in snow and swimming in the sea in the same day. Lots of fun.
Nebil was a great guide to the paths and routes that we took. Great group of fellow-walkers, dined together every night. Walks were mixed with additional local information. Meals with local residents was great, particularly the one on New Year’s Eve, with a perfect sunset. Accommodation was good but felt some of us missed out with basic rooms while others (mostly singles) had a sofa and /or a jaccuzzi while those sharing had neither so very little space.
As long as you have good knees , this is a great trip as there is a lot of boulder climbing. However, the scenery is fantastic. Food choice in restaurants is super and people in Kas are very friendly. Cost of living is higher now than 10 years ago
Hotel accommodation was small family run hotel in central Kas with friendly staff and lovely food. Tour leaders were extremely knowledgeable and complimented each other perfectly (Alper and Ali), and went above and beyond to make our holiday memorable. The itinerary was varied and so interesting, I would go back there again to do the same things.
Great trip all round, highly recommend
Thanks to Alparah our tour leader. Alparah was an excellent guide and we are grateful to him for opening our eyes to the beauty and culture of Turkey - specifically the Turquoise Coast. Alparah went out of his way to inform and educate us to the local, ancient history, he sourced locals to prepare authentic, delicious meals for us as they welcomed us into their homes. Alparah cared for us as a group and individually. We were thrilled with our experience.
Our tour leader, Alper, was really great. Nothing was too much trouble for him and even though he had a million things to sort out all the time he was always patient and kind. We also had a guide trainee, Ali, on our trip who was equally great! The hikes went through beautiful scenery & we had loads of sea swimming opportunities. All in all, a really lovely week and a beautiful area full of history.
Was my first experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was great to have a local guide who was very good. Thank you
Very personable leader and all went very well. I think all people enjoyed it and the Walking was within our capabilities. I think it would’ve been useful to have posted the itinerary daily as the other tour leader did to remind us all of exactly what to expect. I personally loved the fact that the walks ended on a beach or had a beach swim in the middle that made it for me!
Beautiful location, lovely walks and sea views. The walks were varied, along the coast and in the mountains with opportunities for dips in the sea and visits to ancient sites. We were welcomed into some rural homes for lunch and had plenty of options for evening meals, often organised by the tour leader, and even hosted by his wife. Transport to and from walks was well organised and our leader spoke excellent English and was very informative. The hotel was in a good location and had a beautiful pool. The rooms could do with an upgrade, but they were clean and the air conditioning and shower worked well, as did the wifi (in our room at least). We were a bit surprised by how warm it was in early October and occasionally found it a bit hot for walking. I might suggest starting walks a bit earlier, if the hotel would oblige with earlier breakfasts...
This was a great walking tour, the first that I have done with Explore. The sun was stronger than I expected in October, but the leader was good at stopping quite frequently in the shade so we could cool down. There were also lots a breaks for swimming, and the water was amazing, both in temperature and in clarity. We did two walks at higher altitude that I enjoyed, especially the one at 2000m where the temperature was perfect for me, the scenery great and we saw some wild horses. also appreciated the two lunches and the dinner that we had with Turkish families, it gave some real insight into rural life in Turkey that you did not get in the resort. Kas was extremely pretty and the standard of food in the restaurants was very high. The leader was excellent in arranging meals for the group and in suggesting places to eat when we were not eating together. The kayaking that we did on the free day was great fun and it was even better because the leader joined us and explained a lot about Kekova. All in all it was an excellent trip.
An excellent walking itinerary especially the inland walks. The coastal walks are along beautiful coastlines but the paths are very rocky and require considerable concentration. Alpar our tour leader was extremely knowledgeable and extremely well organised ensuring that everyone got the best from the week. The hotel is somewhat tired and provided minimal facilities apart from the excellent pool.
Great walking trip around Kaş on the Turquoise coast. Good mixed itinerary with coastal and mountain walks led by a local guide. Kaş is a good base with plenty of activities, restaurants and cafes.
