This path takes us through it all; over multi-coloured hills and black sands deserts, alongside small gullies and great canyons, through verdurous valleys, between glamorous glaciers, and past wonderful waterfalls. Accommodations will be provided in comfortable mountain huts and all luggage will be transferred along the trail except for the last night where we carry a light backpack to a hut hardly accessible by vehicles. (3000 feet)Day 1: REYKJAVÍK - LANDMANNALAUGAR - HRAFNTINNUSKERWe take the regular public bus from BSI bus terminal, that during the summer months drives the mountain tracks that lead to Landmannalaugar, passing by the Hekla volcano and other volcanoes in the Dómadalur area. Arriving in Landmannalaugar at noon, we have a lunch and then head south into the mountains. The trail takes us past small gorges, steaming hot springs and yellow mountain ridges. We will arrive in the late afternoon at Hrafntinnusker mountain hut, where we will stay the night.Day 2: HRAFNTINNUSKER - ÁLFTAVATNFrom Hrafntinnusker we descend down in the gullies of Jökultungur with hundreds of steaming hot springs and mud pools. Fascinating views to the south to the Álftavatn area (Swan Lake), and the Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers. In the afternoon we arrive at Álftavatn hut where we stay the night.Day 3: ÁLFTAVATN - EMSTRURWe pass at the foot of the green conic volcano of Stórasúla before entering the black deserts of Mælifellssandur. Heading towards another ancient and verdurous volcano, the Hattfell, we enter the Emstrur region where farmers used to graze their sheep in summer. Before arriving at the Botnar hut where we stay the night, we visit the magnificent Markarfljót canyon cut almost 200 m down into the rocks south of Hattfell.Day 4: EMSTRUR - ÞÓRSMÖRKWe continue up and down through the small valleys and gullies of Emstrur, where the great Mýrdalsjökull glacier rises only a couple of kilometers away. At the end of the day, the vegetation starts to grow thicker and higher as we descend into Þórsmörk’s (the woods of Thor) green valleys filled with arctic birch forests and colorful flowers. We cross the river Krossá on a footbridge entering the magic landscapes of Goðaland, the abode of the Gods. Nesting at the foot of two glaciers this is a wonderland of ridges and cliffs covered by a multitude of flowers and grasses, certainly fit for gods and humans alike. Even the elves have made themselves at home here. We spend the night in the Básar hut.Day 5: ÞÓRSMÖRK - FIMMVÖRÐUHÁLSWe climb up the hills leading to the pass of Fimmvörðuháls, walking along the Kattarhryggir ridges with views to the impressive mountain of Útigönguhöfði up to Morinsheiði heath. At the end of the Morinsheiði plateau we enjoy the view of the lava stream that flowed down from the Fimmvörðuháls volcano in March and early April 2010. As we gain height above Morinsheiði we come to the lava and then to the two craters Magni and Móði that erupted prior to the main Eyjafjallajökull crater. We head back to Þórsmörk with the magnificent view over the glaciers and this beautiful valley for our celebration barbeque dinner and night in Básar Hut.Day 6: ÞÓRSMÖRK VALLEYWe spend the last day in Þórsmörk, the hiker’s paradise, where we have an abundance of choices between various paths. For example, we can visit the Sönghellir cave (“Song cave”), climb up the small mountain of Valahnúkur from where the magnificent views can be enjoyed, or hike into the beautifully carved canyon Stakkholtsgjá. This oasis between the mountains is also an ideal place to relax and just enjoy nature. Return to Reykjavik in the afternoon.

day 1 - Reykjavik
Welcome to Iceland! Upon arrival at the airport you will take a taxi transfer from Keflavík International airport to our hotel in Reykjavík. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore the capital.

day 2 - Reykjavik sightseeing
We meet our guide at 09:00 am and set off to explore Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital. We learn about the city’s history while visiting landmarks such as Hallgrímskirkja, the University district, and the harbour, where fishing boats, mountain views, and the striking Harpa Concert Hall. Then we take a short drive out of town to Bessastaðir, the official residence of the President of Iceland. Although it is closed to visitors, it remains an important landmark.
After exploring the city we stop for lunch at an Icelandic restaurant, where a seasonal menu offers a taste of local flavours, guided by the chef and served by knowledgeable staff. Our final port of call today is Harpa where we enjoy the Volcano Express, a short film about Iceland’s volcanic nature.

day 3 - West Iceland, Hot Springs, Waterfalls & Glaciers
Reykjavik - Húsafell. We leave Reykjavík this morning and travel west towards Borgarfjörður Valley, an area shaped by geothermal energy, rivers and ancient lava fields. Our first stop is Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, where steam rises constantly from the earth.
Next, we visit the nearby waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. At Hraunfossar, clear spring water flows from beneath a lava field into the Hvítá River – a formation created by volcanic activity over a thousand years ago. A short walk upstream leads to Barnafoss, a narrow and fast-moving cascade that carries with it a local legend of tragedy.
Our journey continues to Húsafell, a peaceful area near the highlands. From here, we join the Into the Glacier tour – a guided adventure through a man-made ice tunnel inside Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Specially equipped vehicles take us up onto the ice, where we explore the glacier from within.

day 4 - Hvammsvík Hot Springs & the Golden Circle
Húsafell - Geysir. Today begins with a visit to Hvammsvík Hot Springs, beautifully set in Hvalfjörður where geothermal pools meet the sea. After a relaxing soak, we continue to the Golden Circle.
Our first stop is Þingvellir National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Iceland’s parliament was established in 930 AD, the oldest in the world. The park also sits between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, clearly visible in the surrounding landscape.
We then visit Laugarvatn Fontana to witness traditional rye bread baking using geothermal heat, followed by a tasting of the warm bread fresh from the ground. Our next stop is Friðheimar Geothermal Greenhouse and Horse Stables, where we learn about sustainable greenhouse farming and meet the friendly Icelandic horses.
Before heading to our hotel, we stop at Gullfoss – one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls – and the nearby Geysir area, where the geyser Strokkur erupts every few minutes.

day 5 - Exploring the South Coast
This morning we explore Iceland’s scenic South Shore, known for its waterfalls, open landscapes and volcanic coastline. We visit Seljalandsfoss, where it is possible to walk behind the curtain of water, and Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most photographed waterfalls.
At Skógar Folk Museum, we discover a collection of more than 15,000 artefacts illustrating the history of farming, fishing and rural life in Iceland. The turf houses and traditional tools provide an authentic glimpse into the nation’s past.
Continuing east, we arrive at Reynisfjara’s black sand beach, famous for its dramatic basalt columns and sea stacks rising from the Atlantic. A short stop is made in the village of Vík before returning to Geysir for the night.

day 6 - Reykjanes Peninsula & The Blue Lagoon
Geysir - Reykjavik. We begin the day at Kerið, a volcanic crater formed around 3,000 years ago. The crater is about 55 metres deep and features a small lake at its base, surrounded by vivid red volcanic slopes.
From here, we travel across the Reykjanes Peninsula, an area defined by geothermal and volcanic activity. Our first stop is the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s world-famous geothermal spa. Relax in the striking blue-turquoise waters, rich in minerals and surrounded by a surreal lava landscape.
Afterwards, we explore more of the peninsula, visiting the Bridge Between Continents – a symbolic walkway spanning the rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. We then continue to Reykjanesviti, Iceland’s oldest lighthouse, offering sweeping views of the dramatic coastline. The day concludes at Gunnuhver, a geothermal area with boiling mud pools, fumaroles and vividly coloured rock formations that give it an otherworldly feel.
After a full day of exploration, we return to Reykjavík for our final evening in Iceland.
