The star attraction of this trip is its extraordinary diversity—blending cosmopolitan cities, epic wilderness, and unforgettable wildlife experiences into one seamless tour package. Once you’ve made memories under African skies, you’ll never see the world the same way again.
An unforgettable Southern Africa adventure — from the Big Five to the salt pans, every moment was incredible. , our trip manager, made the experience seamless and fun, and the drivers were excellent. Minor issues aside, I’d definitely travel again — hopefully next time including Eswatini and Lesotho!
I have done a lot of travel and this was honestly the best trip I've ever been on. Every day was full of adventure, beautiful sceneries and unreal experiences. I wasn't sure what to expect going into this trip and only booked it for something different to do, however Africa has turned into my favourite place! I am already planning to go back and do other Contikis there next year.
Definitely trip of a lifetime! If you’re thinking about doing it, it will be way better than you can even imagine. is an amazing trip leader! He really made the trip as great as it was. He keeps it laid back and fun while also participating with the group. If leads any other contiki trips in Africa those will be next on the list. I loved all of the activities. If you do the white water rafting, the hike at the end of it is no joke so pace yourself but it’s worth it. The bungee swing at Victoria falls is something I never thought I would do but I’m so happy I did. I did the cape town to Namibia trip. I wasn’t a huge fan of our trip leader Uften in Namibia but that portion of the trip and activities were great. He was just too focused on wanting everyone to go out and get drunk. I love going out and partying on these trips but I don’t know he just gave me weird vibes. Most of the girls on the trip weren’t a fan of his approach as a trip leader. I think my favorite part of the Namibia portion of the trip was the seal kayaking. Overall this is best trip I’ve ever been on and it will definitely be hard to beat. Extras that I recommend checking out that aren’t part of contiki if you have more free time before or after your trip starts: - cage shark dive in Capetown - paragliding in Capetown - cheetah walk in Windhoek
I can’t put into words how incredible the Southern Africa safari was. From start to finish, it was better than I could have expected. Seeing the big 5 in their natural habitat was a highlight. Every game drive brought something new and unforgettable, the beauty of the landscapes and all of the wildlife sightings made every moment feel surreal. Jesse the trip manager made the trip what it was, so knowledgeable, organised, and genuinely passionate about wildlife and culture. He took care of every detail, so we could completely enjoy the journey. From sharing interesting facts and stories during long drives to accomodating everyone’s needs made the whole adventure seamless and special. Cant thank the time and effort he put into this trip enough. The most unexpected gift of this safari was the incredible group of fellow travelers I met along the way. Sharing these weeks with such amazing people, now lifelong friends, was something I never saw coming, but will forever treasure. While i truly enjoyed the overall safari experience and appreciated the efforts of the team, i felt that a few of the game drives, given their significance to the experience, would have been better included as part of the main package rather than offered as optional add-ons. Including them upfront would have provided a more seamless and complete safari experience.
The trip was unreal, from the views from table mountain to seeing the big 5, I couldn’t recommend this trip anymore, Although a word of warning for people considering this trip, whilst it is called ‘southern Africa Safari’ the majority of safaris are ‘free time add-ons that you need to pay for. The trip ran smoothly for the most part apart from one slip up in zimbabwe from the trip manager where he was late one morning. Whilst the majority of Namibia was outstanding, travellers need to be warned about the long bus rides every second day (8+hrs). The bus we had the seats were broken and the aircon broke on the 1st day and we were stuck with the same bus for the whole trip in high 30 degree weather
The whole trip was fantastic! the first 2 weeks with *personal info removed by Feefo* were great! super knowledgeable about the animals and overall a fun guy. Often in Namibia was wonderful and very personable with our small group!
There is of course some ruggedness to be found in the accommodation, but that's a part of the charm of Southern Africa! If you're after some stunning landscapes, amazing wildlife sightings, and fun yet professional guides, then this trip will tick all your boxes!
The trip of a Lifetime! If you're looking for a once in a lifetime adventure, the Contiki Southern African Safari is it. This tour takes you through the heart of South Africa, Zimbabwe/Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia, showcasing some of the most breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences Africa has to offer. Every country on the journey brings something unique from the vibrant cultures to the stunning natural beauty and wildlife encounters that truly leave you speechless. Each day was an adventure of its own. Whether it was tracking the Big Five on safari drives in National Parks, standing in awe before the mighty Victoria Falls, cruising the Chobe River while elephants played on the shore, or exploring the vast dunes and star-filled skies of Namibia’s Namib Desert, the variety of experiences was nothing short of magic. Botswana's pristine wilderness and the sheer abundance of animals created some of the most intimate and powerful nature moments of the entire trip. It's a place where time seems to pause and the natural world completely envelopes you. Truly unforgettable. The trip managers and local guides were outstanding. Their passion, deep knowledge of the region, and warm personalities made every moment more meaningful. They weren’t just guides they felt like part of the travel family, always ready to share stories, answer questions, and ensure we were getting the most out of every stop. Some highlights: * Game drives that brought us up close to lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, wild dogs and more. A real-life National Geographic experience. * Visiting Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world hearing the roar, feeling the mist, and watching rainbows arc across the gorge was unforgettable. * The surreal beauty of Namibia, with its otherworldly landscapes and unforgettable sunsets. * The serenity and raw beauty of Botswana’s wilderness, with unforgettable river cruises and wildlife moments. * Engaging with local communities, learning about different cultures and histories across Southern Africa. The sights were breathtaking, the moments magical, and the memories unforgettable. I cannot recommend this trip enough for anyone with a sense of adventure and a love of nature, culture, and exploration. Contiki absolutely nailed it, this was not just a holiday, it was an experience that will stay with me forever.
