I recently joined the Contiki Cape to Delta Safari, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The itinerary was packed with incredible wildlife encounters, stunning landscapes, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Our guide, was phenomenal—extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and always ready to help. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was comfortable, informed, and getting the most out of the journey. Another highlight was the amazing third-party partners Contiki worked with along the way. From safari operators to local guides, every collaboration felt seamless and added so much authenticity and richness to the trip. You can really tell they’ve built strong relationships with the best people in each region. The only downside was our time at Victoria Falls. As breathtaking as the falls are, we unfortunately only had about 40 minutes to enjoy them. Because some of the group opted for bridge activities, the rest of us had to wait and ended up feeling rushed through the experience. It would be much better if those not participating in bridge activities were able to head to the falls earlier, giving everyone enough time to fully appreciate one of the natural wonders of the world. Overall, this trip was absolutely incredible and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a mix of adventure, wildlife, and culture in Southern Africa. With just a little more time at Victoria Falls, it would have been perfect.

This was my first contiki trip and I did not know anyone before the trip, but it was fantastic. We spent a lot of time doing game drives so that we got to see a lot of animals. We also got to do more cultural activities as well, which was important to me. The trip leader was fantastic, and all the people he worked with along the way were also great. I learned a lot. If you are interested in going on a safari trip, but are not sure how to get around or where to go, this is a great way to do it.

The whole trip was fantastic! the first 2 weeks with *personal info removed by Feefo* were great! super knowledgeable about the animals and overall a fun guy. Often in Namibia was wonderful and very personable with our small group!

There is of course some ruggedness to be found in the accommodation, but that's a part of the charm of Southern Africa! If you're after some stunning landscapes, amazing wildlife sightings, and fun yet professional guides, then this trip will tick all your boxes!

I went in South Africa wintertime. A wonderful introduction to this small part of South Africa. The trip is quite quiet to begin with (Cape Town), most planned things are towards the end of the trip. Definitely not an overloaded itinerary. Lots of walking, but not too strenuous, and there are other options for the less mobile, albeit less scenic. If you don't do vineyards (great wine!) there is a great farm visit as an alternative, well worth it for the scones alone. The optional Monkey park, and Bird wildlife centre visits later in the tour are definitely worth it! Others loved the Plattenberg Bay whale watch tour as it was a smaller group and boat. The first option early in the trip was a huge tour boat for 200 people. It feels a day or two short, maybe arrange to arrive a day early and do the Red Hop-on-off bus in Cape Town. Very worthwhile to get a broad introduction, and takes you to the Botanic gardens, beaches, and to the V&A Waterfront which is a good place to start on day 1 (and means you don't have to worry about safety/ubers/walking). Ubers are an ideal option for getting around Cape Town safely if you are doing your own thing, I didn't have the app on my phone, so relied on other people. Some tourist venues/trips/extra excursions accept Credit Card only, no cash. I used a prepaid card when needed, others had a decent non-fee credit card. Beware of seasonal variations to the itinerary. E.g. in winter the hotel swimming pools are not usable as they are outdoors and unheated. No need to buy a Water2Go bottle, most guides will buy big water bottles that travel with you, and you can refill your own bottle from. Super trip, your bags follow in the bus/in a trailer, nice hotels, good food, lots to see and do.

Unexpected South Africa

This tour was well paced and a great introduction to South Africa, especially for travelers who enjoy exploring the world and finding the unexpected. One of the biggest surprises was the food. The cuisine was so unique and, as our guide advised us, plentiful. Paired with excellent South African wine, you are completely spoiled. Don't hesitate to try new things such as Bobotie or ostrich. All of the areas we visited were beautiful. I particularly loved Hermanus with its charming vibe and a spectacular whale watch, and I will dream of Tsitsikamma for a long time. Gazing into tide pools and spotting a beautiful octopus was incredible. Of course, a big part of Africa is the wildlife and this tour gives you plenty of exposure to many of the animals you hope to see. The elephants at Addo felt like something out of a movie. Cape Town is also fascinating. I had no idea the Cape of Good Hope was so vast. The beauty cannot be surpassed. We were lucky enough to have a perfect view at the top of Table Mountain, as well. The people are incredibly kind and friendly wherever you go and it we enjoyed experiencing the mixture of cultures. The accommodations on this tour vary, but we enjoyed them all. The guesthouse in De Rust was so special as the hosts cooked incredible meals for us each night and treated us like special friends. All in all, the time in South Africa was something I will never forget. The people, the scenery, the animals, the food...all of it was so much more than what I expected.
