Highlights

Climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain

Trek through the Shira Plateau

Encounter a variety of wildlife on the first day of this journey

Itinerary

Experience the thrill of summiting Africa’s highest peak on this eight-day Mount Kilimanjaro climb via the Lemosho Route. Ideal for trekkers who prefer a quieter, less-trodden path, this small group tour starts at Londorossi Gate and traverses lush rainforests, the scenic Shira Plateau, and the challenging Barranco Wall. Reaching the summit, you’ll descend via the Mweka trail for a fresh perspective. Whether you’re a first-time high-altitude trekker or a seasoned mountaineer, this journey offers a supportive environment for acclimatization and success. The tour’s USP is its blend of stunning biodiversity and fewer crowds, making your Kilimanjaro ascent both peaceful and rewarding.

day 1 - Londorossi Park Gate — Mti Mkubwa

Transfer to Londorossi Park Gate for registration. Our porters will prepare and pack supplies and luggage before we start our ascent along the trail to Mti Mkubwa campsite, located at the elevation of 2,895m.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Lunch, Dinner

day 2 - Mti Mkubwa — Shira Plateau — Shira 1 Camp

Continue your journey across the Shira Plateau while enjoying spectacular views of Shira Cathedral and cross a moorland meadow to reach Shira 1 Camp. Tonight, you will stay at the elevation of around 3,500m. The night temperature at Shira 1 Camp can fall below the freezing point. Make sure that you keep yourself warm.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

day 3 - Shira 1 Camp — Shira Hut

The trail gets steeper now that it enters the moorland zone. A gentle walk takes you across the Shira Caldera to Moir Hut with fabulous views of the Arrow Glacier. You will spend the night at an elevation of 4,200m.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

day 4 - Shira Hut — Barranco

Climb to the base of Lava Tower for lunch and acclimatization. This will be our toughest day so far and you may, for the first time, feel the effects of a high elevation. Descend by around 650 metres to Barranco Camp after lunch. The journey to the camp takes around two hours. Your camp is located in a valley below the Barranco Wall.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

day 5 - Barranco — Karanga campsite

Start your day with a scramble to the top of the Barranco Wall. Then traverse a scree over to the Karanga Valley (3,930m). Spend the night at a campsite in Karanga.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

day 6 - Karanga Valley — Barafu Hut

Leave Karanga behind and continue your journey to Barafu Camp. Take some rest on reaching the camp, enjoy your dinner and prepare for the summit day. The twin peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be clearly seen from this location.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

day 7 - Barafu Hut — Stella Point — Uhuru Peak — Mweka Hut

We will wake you up at around 11:30 pm. Have some tea and biscuits then start your trek to the summit via a trail between Rebman and Ratzel glaciers. Traverse a heavy scree until you reach Stella Point (5,732m). This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek.

Stop for a short rest at Stella Point. In case the weather is clear, you might even get the chance to see a magnificent sunrise. Continue an hour-long journey to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.

Descend to Mweka Hut via Barafu from the summit for lunch. Trekking poles will be needed during your downward journey due to the loose scree along the trail. Enjoy your last dinner on the mountain later in the evening. Spend the night in Mweka Hut.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

day 8 - Mweka Hut — Park Gate — Arusha

Continue your downhill journey after breakfast to reach Mweka Park Gate where you will receive your summit certificates at the park headquarters. Your journey comes to an end on reaching Arusha.

Today’s accommodation is not included in the tour price. However, we can arrange it on request if you want to. We can also arrange for airport transfers at an additional charge if you want to.
