Itinerary

Lemosho is our personal first favorite! It is widely considered to be the most picturesque route on Kilimanjaro, and we hold the same opinion. The trek starts from the heath and moorland at 3,400 m, passes through alpine meadow, and finishes in the Arctic zone with the Peak Uhuru. High-altitude drop-off makes the climb less steep and, therefore, less physically challenging. Two very short treks on Day 1 and Day 2 involve little physical activity and you barely trek uphill, which means you need less oxygen and your body can spare resources.

Success rates on 7-day Lemosho are 94-95%.

day 1 - Arrival

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our representative will meet you and transfer to Aishi Machame Hotel.

Our manager will visit you in the evening, bringing a printed, signed and sealed agreement. He will give you a brief trekking orientation and check your equipment.

day 2 - From Londorossi Gate to Shira 1 Camp

Our guides and climbing crew will come to the hotel. You will have a relatively long transfer (approx. 3-4 hours) to the Western entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park – Londorossi Gate (2360 m). After the park permits are arranged and the crew is registered with the emergency service, the group will ride in the vehicles to 3500 point. Once reached, the first spectacular panoramic views on Shira Plateau will open for you.

Walking from the “landing point” to your first checkpoint – Shira 1 Camp is not physically demanding and takes 1-2 hours. The altitude increases almost insensibly, which is especially helpful for effective acclimatization process. By the time of your arrival, the crew will arrange the camp and prepare a dinner for you.

It will be your first day on such elevation. We highly recommend you following these simple instructions:

• Reduce caffeine consumption;

• Drink 4 liters (or more) of water (you should better drink in small portions, but frequently);

• Once the symptoms of the high altitude sickness are found, the intake of Diamox is advisable. Moreover, the pill can be taken as a preventive measure at the beginning of the trekking. Please, consult your physician on the possible individual allergic reactions.

Acclimatization is more difficult at night because of respiratory activity decrease multiplied by the high altitude. Once you discover any symptoms of high altitude sickness, ask the guides for help.

day 3 - From Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

The group leaves Shira 1 Camp (3505 m) and treks to Shira 2 Camp (3810 m.) This trekking is not physically demanding, giving you an opportunity to enjoy magnificent African landscapes and unique flora of Kilimanjaro.

After arriving in the camp, you will have lunch and then make an acclimatization hike up to 300 m towards Lava Tower and go back to the camp.

Important note:

Acclimatization hike is an easy trekking up to some minor altitudes. Please, kindly note, that these acclimatization hikes are very important in order to reach Uhuru Peak successfully and will help you to prevent AMS (acute mountain sickness).

day 4 - From Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower and down to Barranco

After the breakfast, the group leaves Shira 2 Camp and heads for another key point of our route – Lava Tower (4630 m). Many ups and lows lie ahead. Experiencing some discomfort is common among the amateur climbers at this stage of the ascent. In order to make acclimatization process smoother, it is advisable spending 1-2 hours there. The cooks will offer a warm lunch to make your stamina stronger.

Your Lava Tower adventures are followed by descent to Barranco Camp, which amazes with its magnificence and steepness. Conquering it may seem to be daunting, but in reality it is a simple challenge – a nice walking path traverses it.

Important Note:

If high altitude sickness or other health disorder cowardly attacks one or some of the team, you can bypass Lava Tower by taking the porters’ route. In this scenario, the group does not have to reach 4630 meters, the maximum altitude here on the porters’ route is 4400 meters only.

day 5 - From Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Early wake up, breakfast and you start conquering the Barranco Wall. We recommend you to start as early as possible to outstrip other groups. Ascending the wall of the gorge is not a complexity at all. It takes only about one hour. After this accomplishment, you will have an opportunity to rest and take some photos, having Kibo volcano as a spectacular background.

Then a relatively complex trekking awaits you. The rest of the way to Karanga is full of highs and lows, but no worries, our guide will choose the most optimal trekking speed for you. After you reach the camp, a warm lunch will be offered. After a couple of hours, you will have an additional acclimatization hike up to 300 m towards Barafu and go back to the camp.

day 6 - From Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Our cooks will serve a breakfast; then you will climb to the summit camp Barafu (4673 m). From there you will make a night push to Uhuru Peak (5895 m). You will spend the remainder of the day there, adapting to the altitude and regaining your stamina.

Our crew will erect a camp for you, prepare the tents and warm sleeping bags to give you a complete rest. After a proper recovery, another acclimatization hike to Kosovo Camp will follow. After going back to Barafu Camp, a hot dinner will be provided. The guide will advise you going sleep early and taking in Diamox and other pills if necessary. They will reduce the unpleasant symptoms of high altitude sickness. Try to drink much water and rest more. Always remember that acclimatization is the best with minimal physical activity.

Duration:6-7 hours

day 7 - From Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and down to Millennium

At night, the team leaves Barafu Camp (4673 m) and starts conquering Uhuru Peak (5895 m). Technically, this leg of your journey is not difficult, but high altitude is really a challenge. A guide will accompany each couple of the climbers. He will monitor your stamina and fortitude. Once Uhuru is successfully conquered, the group may descend to the glacier.

Then, the group will go down to Barafu Camp. After a two hours rest, you will continue descending to Millennium Camp (3750 m).

Important note:

Do not forget that the 90% of all accidents (broken hands, legs, fractures and strains) befall on the way down. Legs and feet are the most vulnerable areas (especially toenails).

day 8 - From Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate

The camp is located amidst the dense tropical forest. Waking up in the morning, satisfied with your accomplishment, you will feel great relief because of lowering altitude. Our cooks will offer you a warm breakfast, and you will start going down to the exit from the National Park – Mweka Gate (1640 m). Then, the team will salute and congratulate you. You will have an opportunity to leave your memories in the Mountain Kilimanjaro guestbook.

We will present you Kilimanjaro Climbing certificates in our office and then transfer you to Aishi Machame Hotel.

day 9 - Departure

Rest at Aishi Machame Hotel. Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Climbing Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route in 10 Days

The Lemosho route on Mount Kilimanjaro goes parallel to the lower part of the Shira Route. The trail on the Lemosho Route is unspoiled, secluded and a very beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau. Above the plateau, you approach Kilimanjaro's great western Breach, then follow the south circuit to reach the easier Barafu Route. This is one of the few routes where an armed ranger will accompany us as there are still animals in the forest around the Lemosho Glades. The Lemosho route will take 9 days in total. The route is the most scenic on the lower part as it goes directly through a rainforest area with wildlife. Later on, this route merges with the popular Machame route. You can bring around 15 kgs of luggage for the trip. The porters will carry most of the 15 kgs, and you will yourself carry a small day-pack.
