Smooth, Scenic, and Superbly Organized I joined a 6-Day Marangu Route hike with Kilisa Tours, and the whole experience was seamless. The accommodations in the mountain huts were cozy, and the support staff made sure we were always comfortable. Our guide shared fascinating stories about the mountain s history and wildlife. Everything ran perfectly on schedule, and the company s attention to detail was impressive. I ve done many treks before, but Kilisa Tours stands out for their genuine care and world-class service. Itinerary

The Machame route on Mount Kilimanjaro is renowned for its scenic diversity but is best suited for experienced trekkers and young adults with solid hiking backgrounds. Starting at 900 meters, this route traverses every climatic zone, from lush tropical forests to the dramatic ice glaciers of Kibo volcano. Notably, the Machame route is both affordable and boasts a high summit success rate, making it a popular choice among those seeking an adventurous yet value-conscious trek. The journey is physically demanding, particularly during the rainy season when trails become more challenging, so readiness is essential. The unique selling point of this trekking tour package is the opportunity to experience Kilimanjaro’s full spectrum of ecosystems and vistas at a reasonable cost, all while testing your endurance on one of Africa’s most iconic climbs.

day 1 - Arrival

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our representative will meet you and transfer to the Aishi Machame Hotel.

Our manager will visit you in the evening, bringing a printed, signed and sealed agreement. He will give you a brief trekking orientation and check your equipment.

Important info:

The hotel price includes breakfast only.

Hotel check-in starts at 2 PM.

Accommodation:3 Star Hotel

day 2 - From Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Our guides and climbing crew will come to the hotel. You will have the transfer to the entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park – Machame Gate (1640 m). After the guides arrange park permits and register the crew with the emergency service, the group will start trekking to Machame Camp (2980 m).

The first leg of the route lies through the tropical forest. The chances of a torrential rain are high, so we recommend taking not only a change of clothes, but also raincoats (or waterproof ponchos).

It will be your first day on such elevation. We highly recommend you following these simple instructions:

• Reduce caffeine consumption;

• Drink 4 liters (or more) of water (you should better drink in small portions, but frequently);

• Once you find the symptoms of the high altitude sickness, intake of Diamox is advisable. Moreover, you can take the pill as a preventive measure at the beginning of the trekking. Please, consult your physician on the possible individual allergic reactions.

Acclimatization is more difficult at night because of respiratory activity decrease multiplied by high altitude. Once you discover any symptoms of high-altitude sickness, ask the guides for help.

Duration:5-7 hours
Accommodation: Camping

day 3 - From Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After breakfast, you will start trekking to the second high-altitude Shira Camp (3820 m.) Once you leave the tropical forest, amazing views on Shira Plateau will open for you. This trekking is not physically demanding, but you start feeling changes in altitude. Be attentive to your condition and remember that keeping a proper pace is among the critical factors of successful climbing.

After you arrive at the camp, the team will serve a lunch and then make an acclimatization hike up to 300 m towards Lava Tower and go back to the camp.

Important note:

Acclimatization hike is an easy trekking up to some minor altitudes. Please, kindly note, that these acclimatization hikes are very important in order to reach Uhuru Peak successfully and will help you to prevent AMS (acute mountain sickness).

Duration:5-7 hours
Accommodation: Camping

day 4 - From Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

After the breakfast, the group leaves Shira Camp (3820 m) and heads for another key point of our route – Lava Tower (4630 m). Many ups and lows lie ahead. Experiencing some discomfort is common among the amateur climbers at this stage of the ascent. In order to make acclimatization process smoother, spending 1-2 hours there is advisable. The cooks will offer a warm lunch to make your stamina stronger.

Your Lava Tower adventures are followed by descent to Barranco Camp (3970 m), which amazes with its magnificence and steepness. Conquering it may seem to be daunting, but in reality it is a simple challenge – a nice walking path traverses it.

Important Note:

If high altitude sickness or other health disorder cowardly attacks one or some of the team, you can bypass Lava Tower by taking the porters’ route. In this scenario, the group does not have to reach 4630 meters, the maximum altitude here on the porters’ route is 4400 meters only.

Duration:6-8 hours
Accommodation: Camping

day 5 - From Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Day 5. From Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Early wake up, breakfast and you start conquering the Barranco Wall. We recommend you to start as early as possible to outstrip other groups. Ascending the wall of the gorge is not a complexity at all. It takes only about one hour. After this accomplishment, you will have an opportunity to rest and take some photos, having Kibo volcano as a spectacular background.

Then a relatively complex trekking awaits you. The rest of the way to Karanga is full of highs and lows, but no worries, our guide will choose the most optimal trekking speed for you.

A stop for a lunch will be made in Karanga Camp, and then you will head for Barafu summit-camp (4673 m). Do not hurry; spare your strength, because this night you will be conquering Uhuru. The cook will prepare a supper by the time of your arrival. We recommend spending your free time resting.

Duration:8-10 hours
Accommodation: Camping

day 6 - From Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and then to Millennium C

At night, the team leaves the Barafu Camp (4673 m) and starts conquering Uhuru Peak (5895 m). Technically, this leg of your journey is not difficult, but high altitude is really a challenge. A guide will accompany each couple of the climbers. He will monitor your stamina and fortitude. Once Uhuru is successfully conquered, the group may descend to the glacier.

Then, the group will go down to Barafu Camp. After a two hours rest, you will continue descending to Millennium Camp (3750 m).

Important note:

Do not forget that the 90% of all accidents (broken hands, legs, fractures and strains) befall on the way down. Legs and feet are the most vulnerable areas (especially toenails).

Duration:8-12 hours
Accommodation: Camping

day 7 - From Millennium Camp to Mweka Gates

The camp is located amidst the dense tropical forest. Waking up in the morning, satisfied with your accomplishment, you will feel great relief because of lowering altitude. Our cooks will offer you a warm breakfast, and you will start going down to the exit from the National Park – Mweka Gate (1640 m). Then, the team will salute and congratulate you. You will have an opportunity to leave your memories in the Mountain Kilimanjaro guestbook.

We will present you Kilimanjaro Climbing certificates in our office, and then transfer you to Aishi Machame Hotel.

Duration:4-5 hours
Accommodation:3 Star Hotel

day 8 - Departure

Rest at Aishi Machame Hotel. Transfer to the Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Important note:

Hotel check-out is at 11:00. In the event of necessity (e.g. your flight is scheduled for evening time) you can prolong your stay for extra payment (charged by the hotel).

An unforgettable time!

We had an unforgettable experience last week on this tour. We were a group of 4 women with limited to some hiking experience. Anna and Stasia from the tour company were very responsive leading up to our booking. They were very easy and transparent regarding all the booking details. During the trip, our guides Baraka and Gerald were highly professional throughout our trek. They made sure that we were as comfortable as possible. This included all the small things, such as making sure we got enough lights for dinner and bringing more if we needed, as well as the big things, such as making sure that we summited! Baraka and Gerald were highly experienced as guides, and made sure to adjust their walking speeds to the individual needs of our group. They were also very personable, friendly and extremely approachable if we ever had questions (and we had many!). In addition, the rest of the crew (there were 20 people in total), that helped us were all highly attentive and very competent- we could not have done this without them. The food from our chef Justin was delicious - weve never had soup as creamy and eggs cooked the way he makes them- it stood out as unparalleled hiking food! Our server Benson told us really funny stories about his many trips in the mountains while he prepared dinner. The rest of the crew who worked behind the scenes tirelessly made everything seamless! We couldnt have asked for more. Some tips in addition to the other ones you may find online:1. Bring Vaseline - it gets really dry in the mountains so that would really help.2. It also gets very dusty in the mountain, so if you have dust allergies, you might need some medication. Even if you are not allergic to dust, it may be good to bring a bandana or something equivalent to keep off the dust.3. Rent the portable toilet!!! It is much better than the public restrooms, and relatively clean. Much more convenient if you need to go at night.4. Bring an extra roll of toilet paper- you wont need it for the toile if you rent the portable toilet, but it is useful if your nose runs because it gets cold.5. Bring extra hand warmers if you can. In addition to using them on Summit Day, some mornings are also cold. The crew does give you heated rubber bottles for warmth as well- so this is just for extra comfort.6. Bring mouthwash! Some nights are somewhat cold, so you may choose to mouthwash rather than do the full floss/brush. Makes you feel cleaner for sure. Same goes for disposable baby wipes in addition to a camping towel (quick dry so you dont have to use a wet one the next day!)7. Bring extra snacks if you can- the crew never will ask you for food, but we think they really appreciate it when you share. Same goes for anything else you think you can spare. Sharing is caring!8. Ask questions! We learned quite a bit about the mountains and the lives of our entire crew when we did- it was very rewarding learning more about the local culture and language.

Top notch Kili climb

We had a phenomenal experience with this tour company climbing the Mahcame Route (7 days). The guides were highly professional; every day they conducted a medical check to make sure we were all feeling alright, and helped ensure that we were taking care of ourselves properly. They fed us well, and provided all sorts of interesting facts and motivation to help get all of us up the mountain. In our group of 10, all of us made it to the summit! Our guides were also all Tanzanian/locals, which was great. Some other companies use Americans to lead their trips, which seemed unnecessary. The locals knew the mountain better, were fantastic ambassadors for their country, and in general just fun.

Fantastic Kilimanjaro Operators

My friend and I recently finished 7-day Machame Kilimanjaro climb, and we would recommend this tour organizer to anyone. Stasia and Anna, our contacts, were very responsive and helpful. We found the booking process straightforward and once in Tanzania everything was very well organised and slick. All members of staff that we met were friendly and very professional, and we always felt well taken care of.We had a great experience climbing Kilimanjaro . In particular our guides Victor, Athuman, Eli and Makeke (and the rest of their team of chefs and porters) were totally reliable and professional, and made our climb both safe and enjoyable. When my climbing partner was taken ill, the guides went above and beyond to help him and to make sure he recovered and went on to reach the summit. Lots of good food was provided, and the guides carried out two medical checks per day to make sure everyone was feeling okay. We would highly recommend this company, and Victors team of guides.

Stop looking and book Altezza for your climb!

Just returned from our 7-day climb up the Machame trail with this travel operator and I truly can't say enough amazing things about the company & the folks working there! To set the stage, we were a small group of three women in our early 30s from Chicago IL, USA.To start, the booking process is incredibly easy and Stasia couldn't have been more helpful via email. We had months and months of questions leading up to the hike and she answered in detail within minutes. The company has a helpful packing list, and you can rent anything you don't want to spend money on buying. When we landed at Kilimanjaro airport our driver was waiting for us, was helpful with our luggage, and made us feel right at home. Upon arrival to the hotel, Ana was so kind and helpful with check in. She went through our gear check in detail & asked great questions about what we brought along to ensure we were prepared. The next morning we woke up to meet one of our two guides, Edwin. Right off the bat Edwin made us feel comfortable and we knew it was going to be a great seven days together. We arrived to the Machame gate for checkin and a yummy lunch + to meet the rest of our team consisting of another guide (Joshua) and our team of 13 porters. They were all smiles and brought such amazing energy! The rest of our time spent on the mountain was perfection! Joshua and Edwin did a wonderful job of evaluating how we were feeling and hiking us along as they felt fit. The three of us are in good shape and they could tell we could go a bit faster than other groups. Every few hours they magically brought out hot tea during break time. Once you start to get a bit higher and it gets colder, this becomes a highlight! Not to mention some of our best conversations happened while overlooking a gorgeous view sipping tea all together. Each day we got to camp everything was ready to go! They provide warm water both in the morning and evening to wash up. You also get coffee/ tea in your tent in the morning. The meals were delicious (for real!!) and we never went hungry. They even brought us a cake for New Years AND our chef made one on our last morning. I can't bake a cake in my condo let alone on a mountain! Also, I'm a veggie and they went above and beyond to ensure I had something separate to eat. Each meal also has hot water to make more tea or coffee; again a perk when it's freezing! Before you head to sleep they give you a stuffed bunny with a hot pod of water inside. It warms your sleeping bag right up and made going to bed in the cold so much better. Such a lovely add on.When it came to feeling safe, our guides made sure we were feeling great each step of the way. They checked our heart rate and oxygen levels twice a day and when climbing steeper boulders made sure we felt safe. They also made sure we were drinking as much water as possible throughout the day.On summit morning, despite crazy wind, snow, hail, and cold, we never once felt unsafe or like we couldn't do it. Edwin, Joshua, and Frank (a porter who summited with us) did everything from pushing hair out of our faces, re-buckling our backpacks, unzipping and rezipping coats, opening up hand warmers, and even giving us words of encouragement. When we reached the top it felt like such a team effort! In summary, this company goes above and beyond from start to finish. They truly care about your experience & safety. It was an INCREDIBLE adventure filled with an amazing team (our rafikis!) we miss dearly. Do yourself a favor and book this company and ask for Joshua and Edwin's team. You won't regret it!

Climbing Kilimanjaro with a group of & as a 68 year old

Picked this operator online without any other source of information. Could not have been happier. Service was very prompt and courteous, prices were much better than US based firms. Safety was the primary concern with comfort a close second. Luxurious seems an odd word given the environment, but not far off. Rentals were first rate quality. Unexpectedly, got a birthday cake at 12000 feet for one of our party. Guides and porters were lovely people.
