day 1 - Machame Gate (1,800m) to Machame Camp (2,835m)
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel at around 8:00 am and transferred to Machame Gate. On the way, you will see coffee and banana plantations belonging to the Chagga people.
Complete park formalities such as registration on reaching Machame Gate and start your trek to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Call it a day on reaching Machame Camp, where you will spend the night.
day 2 - Machame Camp (2,835m) to Shira Cave Camp (3,750m)
You start to hike around 8:00 am. It takes about an hour to reach to the top of the forest and then one more hour to travel across a moorland. A short lunch of snacks is followed by a journey up a rocky ridge. Stay overnight at Shira Camp.
day 3 - Shira Cave Camp (3,750m) to Barranco Camp (3,900m)
To take advantage of acclimatization, you will journey through an alpine desert all the way up to the Lava Tower (4,600m) before descending to Barranco Camp (3,900 m). This descent takes about three hours and offers great opportunities to take some beautiful pictures of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall.
Your campsite is situated in a valley below the wall and should provide you wit the chance to enjoy a memorable sunset while waiting for dinner. Stay overnight at Barranco Camp.
day 4 - Barranco Camp (3,900m) to Karanga Camp (4,000m)
Continue up a steep ridge after breakfast and climb the imposing Barranco Wall. Having reached the top of the wall, you can finally appreciate just how beautiful Kilimanjaro really is. With the Kibo Glaciers soaring overhead, you descend into your lush campsite located in the Karanga Valley. From the camp you can look east and see the jugged peaks of Mawenzi. You are free for the rest of the day. Allow your body to acclimatize before making a push for the summit.
day 5 - Karanga Camp (4,000m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Head for Barafu Camp (4,640m) after breakfast. Dinner will be early today as you will have to get up at around midnight and head for the summit.
day 6 - Barafu Camp (4,637m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
Wake up at around midnight and, after having some light tea with cookies, continue your journey to the top of the mountain. You will spend around four to five hours climbing a scree before you reach the crater rim at Stella Point (5,756m) as the first rays of the sun hit the mountain. It will take you around one hour from Stella Point to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Take some photos before descending to Barafu Camp for lunch and rest followed by a walk down to Millennium Camp (3,950m) for dinner and overnight stay.
day 7 - Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)
Continue your final descent after breakfast. Collect your certificates on reaching Mweka Gate. After completing park formalities and receiving certificates, a private car will take you back to your hotel where you can have a warm shower. It’s definitely time to celebrate!
