It's famous for its shady alleyways, whitewashed cottages with blue turquoise doors, wrought iron windows, and tiled roofs. day 3 - Volubilis - Fes

Before departing for Fes, get up early and take shots of the quiet streets. Along the trip, visit the UNESCO-protected Volubilis ruins, which were the Romans' greatest stretch in Africa. Explore the complex, including merchant residences with original heating systems, temples, and many mosaics.

Drive on to Meknes, a smaller, less crowded variant of Fes, for an insight into a medieval imperial capital. The two primary attractions of interest are the Ville Impériale (Imperial City) and the medina. Visit the Bab al-Mansour Gate, the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, and possibly stop for lunch.

By the evening, continue your journey to Fes with its massive and sometimes perplexing historic medina, where to spend the two nights.

day 4 - Explore the city of Fes with a local guide

Fes is Morocco's oldest imperial city (the others being Meknes, Marrakech, and Rabat) and one of the most intriguing to visit. The city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has not suffered much colonial construction, allowing you to appreciate its medieval beauty. Fes is made up of two historic medina neighborhoods, Fes el Bali (where you will spend the majority of your time) and Fes el Jdid (a little younger portion of town) and the early twentieth-century French-planned Ville Nouvelle. Your guide will assist you in traversing the tiny and maze-like historic alleyways of the medinas. Begin in Fes el Bali, enjoy the views from one of the control towers and visits to the leather industry and landmarks...

day 5 - Fes - Ifrane - Cedars - Ziz Valley - Merzouga desert

We drive south, crossing the Col du Zad pass and passing into the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas highlands. We'll pass Midelt, renowned as the apple city, where you can observe families of Barbary macaque monkeys in the trees and on the side of the road. Take in the surroundings, which includes the Moulouya River and apple orchards.

Then, cross the Tizi n'Talremt mountain and enter the Ziz Valley, which is peppered with oases and palm tree clusters. Take note of the numerous ksars, fortified homes erected by merchants to defend their merchandise (gold, salt, and spices).

As you approach Erfoud, you will notice the first hints of the Sahara sand dunes. The dunes are never motionless and move with the wind. If you're lucky, you could come across a nomadic Berber family and get to sip tea with them. Continue on to Erg Chebbi's vast sea of sand dunes. Some dunes grow to over 200 meters in height and cover around 35 square kilometers, changing color with the movement of the sun

.

Change the pace and be ready for a camel safari across the dunes outside of Merzouga, arriving at camp shortly before nightfall. Climb the closest sand dune to see the beautiful show as the sun goes down behind the massive dunes. Back to the campsite for an open-air meal and a night by the campfire listening to typical Berber songs performed by locals beneath a canopy of stars. Spend the night in a Nomad glamping tent.

Duration:9 hours
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals:Breakfast, Dinner

day 6 - Merzouga Desert - Tinghir Valley - Todra Gorges - Dades

Get up early to witness desert dawn before attempting sandboarding. You will also be able to choose between an Erg Chebbi (sand dune) excursion and an ATV tour. While taking a short tour around adjacent Khemliya, a classic Saharan village, hear unique drum music and dancing. Leave the dunes behind and enter Rissani's market town through its majestic gate. It's worth your effort to discover the 'donkey parking lot' to please your senses in this town known for its cattle auction.

Proceed to Tinehir. This Oasis village provides breathtaking views of adjacent settlements along the length of the vast river valley (60 km of palm trees). Stop in the Todra Canyon, a 300m high gorge carved from red sandstone by the Todra River, here you may take a leisurely walk in and around the gorge and rest in the calm waters of the small river below. Drive to your accommodation in Dades Valley at the conclusion of the day.

Stop in Kelâat M'Gouna to observe the rose bushes that line field parcels. Visit a rose cooperative to witness how rose leaves are converted into rose oil and water. Journey west to Ouarzazate and learn about how its surrounding regions have been portrayed in films like Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down. It is possible to have a movie studio tour to discover more about the filming process and the history of the place.

Visit the neighboring At Benhaddou. The ancient ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage monument, dated from the 11th century and played an essential role along the trans-Saharan commerce route. Climb to the ancient Granary for a great view of the kasbah and surrounding region. Fans of the series Game of Thrones may want to make the trip down to the river to visit the gates featured in the show.

Stretch your legs at the summit for a spectacular panoramic view of the mountains. Visit the Souk des Teinturiers (the dyers' souk) and the Koutoubia Mosque, taking notice of the open areas that stretch off certain alleys along the route.
