Escape the crowds with remote mountain walking exploring northern Tuscany. The Apuane Alps are a remote area of northern Tuscany - a world away from the towns and rolling hills of the south. There are few other walkers and the villagers make you feel truly welcome. This walk has many attractive ingredients, from wide mountain vistas, to remote hamlets surrounded by forest and mountain scenery. From the small unassuming town of Fornaci di Barga you'll enter the Apuane forests, climbing up through chestnut woods and dropping down through vineyards to the ancient village of Verni, home to an impressive series of limestone massifs rising up to 2000m. The Apuanes are famous for their scenery of white marble towers, abysses and the largest cave system in Italy. During the walk you'll explore remote chapels, climb Monte Forato (1223m) and visit the 'Grotta del Vento' with its subterranean lakes. You'll also have the option to ascend Pania della Croce (1860m) before visiting the hermitage at Calomini.

This Self-drive journey starts from Rome the capital of Italy towards the Siena Area and continues through Orvieto famous for its majestic Gothic Cathedral and the beautiful Perugia region home of the Baci (world-famous chocolate). The team were terrific to deal with in the lead up to the trip. They were extremely responsive and knowledgeable and we're able to answer all our questions. This was our first e-bike trip and all our concerns were alleviated by the team. When we arrive in Sardinia, the representative who met us walked us through the bikes, how to get the best out of them and maximise our enjoyment of the tour. Each day was terrific with great views (and yes there were some hills to climb but the e-bikes make this a lot easier). The accommodation was great, the food particularly enjoyable. I would highly recommend them and their self guided tours. We'll be back for another trip for sure.

Well, I'm a science teacher and I got to see LAVA, like ACTUAL LAVA spewing from the top of a volcano! We got to spend time in places that are far enough out in Italy that it did not feel overly touristy. What I love about all G trips are the adventurous travelers who take these tours. This is my third tour with G and everyone comes to them with a sense of fun and adventure. Also, we were on Mt. Etna for a rare event- cloud rings coming off the top. It made international news and we saw it in person!

My frst trip with Explore and it didn’t disappoint. Massimo our guide was very good and all the events were excellent. I particularly loved the farm visit to see Mozzarella being made and the olive oil & wine tasting. I also loved the walks! The accomodation was ok but not always comfortable and I personally would have liked just a bit more time between activities as it seemed very rushed! I will certainly look at booking Explore again in the future!

This new Geluxe style of traveling was exceptional!! It packed so many activities and excursions during the entire trip! I active hiking along the way was a nice bonus to not only see the beautiful countryside and villages but to earn our multiple wine tastings and delicious food.
