Northern Europe Geysers Tour Reviews
Real traveler feedback from Geysers tours across Northern Europe
We left it up to Trafalgar to plan and implement the whole trip. They delivered. We'd never been on such a grand adventure before. They got us rooms, tours, experiences and kept us on track for the duration of the trip. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and treated us with great kindness and patience as we tried to make our way in this foreign country. We learned a few Icelandic terms like "Theh-ta Rrrruhth-dust" (spelled phonetically, not literally) which is an Icelandic term that means "everything is gonna work out ok". And it did. We brought 8 family members and we think it worked out so well because the tour and the guide had enough mapped out so we did not have to argue as a family who wanted to do what. And yet there was enough free time for some discretionary side activities. We were delighted with our trip.
Well organized, with comfortable accomodations and transportation. Excellent tour guide and driver. Meals were excellent for the most part with one hotel breakfast somewhat limited in selection and quality. Other tour participants were very pleasant throughout the journey. Appropriate gear is necessary - expect cold temperatures, rain, snow, and near constant wind. If you are prepared with the right clothing, you will love the tour and all of the stops along the way.
Best described as excellent. The only comment I would make is that travel agents should be given better information on the details - e.g. airport transfers were included in the package - they thought we would have to make our own way to the start hotel and return to the airport at the end.
The trip we experienced with Goran, our guide was amazing! He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and, and professional. Our bus driver Lucas was professional and friendly. We saw amazing sights including the waterfalls in their partially frozen state, the snow-covered mountains, seascapes, the Blue Lagoon, the incredible lava flow adventure, and of course the amazing Northern Lights! For those of us needing the unique adventure was the tasting of Greenland shark with a shot of Brennevin. One word of caution though, the water in your hotel rooms will have a sulfur odor. All-in-all a great experience.
Had a great time, and my tour guide was lovely. Got to see and do some fantastic things (would recommend doing the FTAs) and the coach made moving around Iceland safe and easy. Given how dark it was and how iced the roads were, this tour was a great way to see Iceland. We were able to see the Northern Lights in Iceland, but this isn’t a Northern Lights tour; it’s very weather dependent. Only notes I’d have for this trip are the optional activities are not really optional, as you will be left on the coach until the activity is done; there is nothing else in the area for you to do during these activities. The glacier hike was manageable for those that don’t regularly hike, but if you don’t have good boots with ankle support you will also have to pay to rent shoes. The hostel we stayed at in Reykjavík was also inconvenient at this time for airport transfers due to construction happening; no hostel pick ups possible, so I’d take care when booking flights to pick a convenient time to catch a bus and arrive at the airport on time.
Honestly I really enjoyed everything. But if I had to pinpoint a favourite I think it would be how often we saw the northern lights. Due to the extreme weather conditions - a blizzard in October, we saw them almost every night which I think makes us really lucky, as I was expecting it to be much harder to see them. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by the adaptability of our day plans by our TM and Driver when we needed to be kept safe, and had delays to departures on some days due to snow, icy roads, and strong winds - we still managed to see everything we would have in the end and made some surprise pit stops too! I was super stoked with the glacier hike, but it would be even more incredible if it was longer. The only way I think this trip could be improved would be to have the start time earlier so the first day is actually a full day, and start the travel straight away! Why do we need to stay in Reykjavík on the first and last night? It could easily be changed to make the trip feel like you see even a tiny bit more.
