Japan Active outdoor Trips

The trip was a memorable experience led by a fantastic guide . We covered a huge area and at times the walking uphill was quite challenging however the views were well worth the effort. Our guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and patient and local guides were also great. Our group was mixed ages and nationalities but we all gelled together with a common interest in the country. This group tour was a fantastic way for first-time visitors like us to discover Japan, and it's history, culture and landscape. The mix of city, and rural and mountain pilgrimage route, travelling by train, bus and on foot, even boat, was a great blend for the more active traveller. Our guide was excellent - knowledgeable, helpful and patient. I'm already looking through the Explore brochure for our next trip!

This was a wonderful trip, full-on, but then I expected it to be like that. In a relatively short time we saw so many different aspects of Japan - cities, mountains, a sacred island, the sobering experience of Hiroshima. Travelling by public transport and eating in Japanese restaurants gave me a great insight into Japanese culture. Our guide Mark Petherbridge, was exceptional. he was English, so he understood our culture, but he lives in Japan and speaks fluent Japanese, so he could explain their culture as well. He had excellent knowledge of Japan - history, culture, customs. He was so helpful, like finding me a sim card for my phone, and he was very willing to 'go the extra mile' and include extra experiences. He was energetic and entertaining! I thoroughly recommend this trip!

Fantastic full on trip from start to finish! Raya our guide was exemplary and her enthusiasm was limitless. We encountered some difficulties due to the unforeseen levels of snow this year but this was overcome and did not impact our itinerary. This truly is a great experience, the days are packed with adventures. I particularly enjoyed the drift ice and of course the snow festival. Tokyo and Kyoto also great, all the temples, shrines, and bamboo forest - fabulous! All accommodation of a good standard and convenient to allow self exploration with confidence with great support from our lovely Raya!

A great itinerary with excellent accommodation and included meals. The leader, Raya, was an extraordinary guide with a great bubbly personality and just so knowable about all aspects, especially the history of destinations and sites.

Some of the accommodation was old and dated and not up to normal standards, for people taking on this trip you need to be fit and mobile as all of the trip is on public transport, bus, train and metro system
