Highlights

Low traffic route to Kilimanjaro

Enjoy the beautiful views as Lemosho is considered the most scenic route on Kilimanjaro

Itinerary

The Lemosho Route is perhaps the most scenic Kilimanjaro route, from the first day to the last. The trail begins north of Shira, also on the western side of the mountain. But unlike the Shira Route, where for the first day you walk on a wide 4 WD road, Lemosho is a narrow wilderness trail right from the beginning, passing through pristine and remote rainforest with good chances of seeing wildlife. It then crosses the Shira Plateau before joining the Machame Route near the Lava Tower.

Luckily, despite its growing popularity, especially for second time Kilimanjaro climbers, Lemosho sees a very low number of people and truly offers and incredible adventure on the highest peak in Africa, and the highest free standing mountain in the world.

Maasai Wanderings is looking very much forward to providing you with a climb of a lifetime. No previous mountaineering experience is required for this trip.

day 1Hike from Arusha (2,350m) to Forest Camp

Distance : 4.1 Km
We depart after an early breakfast for transfer to Lemosho Gate, an arduous three-hour journey through the colonial grazing lands between Mt Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro. This area is now inhabited by Maasai families and has spectacular scenery. We complete formal registrations at Londorossi Gate before continuing onto the trailhead. We enjoy a packed lunch as the team inspects and co-ordinates luggages and then set off on our hike.

day 2Hike from Forest Camp (2,790m) to Shira One

day 3Hike 10.6km from Shira One (3,490m) to Moir Camp

day 4Hike from Moir Camp (4,150m) to Barranco

day 5Hike from Barranco (3,955m) to Karanga Valley

day 6Hike from Karang (4,020m) to Barafu (4,600m)

day 7Hike from Barafu to Summit (5,895m) to Mweka

Climb Kilimanjaro: Lemosho Route, 9 Days (7-day climb)

5.0(8 reviews)

Lemosho is our personal first favorite! It is widely considered to be the most picturesque route on Kilimanjaro, and we hold the same opinion. The trek starts from the heath and moorland at 3,400 m, passes through alpine meadow, and finishes in the Arctic zone with the Peak Uhuru. High-altitude drop-off makes the climb less steep and, therefore, less physically challenging. Two very short treks on Day 1 and Day 2 involve little physical activity and you barely trek uphill, which means you need less oxygen and your body can spare resources. Success rates on 7-day Lemosho are 94-95%.

Mt. Kilimanjaro - Machame route, 8 days

5.0(7 reviews)

The Machame route on Mount Kilimanjaro is renowned for its scenic diversity but is best suited for experienced trekkers and young adults with solid hiking backgrounds. Starting at 900 meters, this route traverses every climatic zone, from lush tropical forests to the dramatic ice glaciers of Kibo volcano. Notably, the Machame route is both affordable and boasts a high summit success rate, making it a popular choice among those seeking an adventurous yet value-conscious trek. The journey is physically demanding, particularly during the rainy season when trails become more challenging, so readiness is essential. The unique selling point of this trekking tour package is the opportunity to experience Kilimanjaro’s full spectrum of ecosystems and vistas at a reasonable cost, all while testing your endurance on one of Africa’s most iconic climbs.

Kilimanjaro Climbing Marangu Route 7 Days

5.0(4 reviews)

Zara Tours guides treks up the Marangu Route, which is the easiest and shortest route to Kilimanjaro's summit and is known as the "Coca Cola" or "tourist" route. This is the only route on Kilimanjaro with the comforts of solar-powered sleeping huts and comfortable beds at every camp. The huts are communal, and each bunk has a sponge mattress and pillow. There are 60 beds at both Mandara and Kibo Huts and 120 beds at Horombo Hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. Basic men's and ladies' latrines are available at the last camp. All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere. Soft drinks, bottled water, and beer may be for sale at the huts. Bring Tanzanian money to purchase these items (prices increase with elevation). This route can be done in 6 days if you're fast, but in order to do it safely, we will spend 7 days as 6 days is sometimes not enough for proper acclimatization.

Kilimanjaro tour via the Marangu route offers a dynamic trekking adventure, recommended particularly for young adults and seasoned travelers seeking both comfort and challenge. Unlike other Kilimanjaro climbs, the Marangu route features hut accommodations with bunk beds, allowing trekkers respite from the elements and reducing logistical costs.
