For those who appreciate walking holidays with a touch of the exotic, this trip delivers Turkey’s Lycian wonders in style.
Great trip despite hot temperatures. Made special by our Explore guide, Alper.
Nice trip, good group. The Lycian way was a little boring compared to other hikes
This was my first organised hiking tour and I was not disappointed! Ryman our guide was simply excellent. She kept the group together and pulled everyone and everything together perfectly. Accomodation far exceeded my expectations. All in all the trip was excellent value for money. One downside though. The guides could be paid much better as they give such a great service!
We found Explore to be very good. The communication about the trip was clear. I made a couple of calls to ask questions which were answered. The trip was amazing the only comment I would like to make is that not everyone walks at the same pace and as a slower member of the group I was often on my own. It would have been better to have at least 2 guides for 16 people one at the front and 1 at the back. The guide we did have was lovely and very helpful with a fabulous dinner on the last night. The food throughout the trip was amazing. I highly recommend this hike
Amazing trip, excellent leader and the group were lovely.
Highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in stunning views of the Turkish countryside and delicious food. Our guide Nebil was THE BEST. He kept the group engaged, always looked out for us and made us laugh and push on when the trail was challenging. My favorite phrase was "just a little bit up". I especially loved the home cooked meals we sampled in Gey and on the last day - lunch on the boat and dinner. Bring your poles and best walking shoes or boots and challenge yourself. You'll be rewarded with an amazing experience.
To enjoy the Lycian Way week, you need pretty good fitness as there are some steep ascents, & long days, especially in the heat, a good sense of humour as there’s dorm accommodation with early morning call to prayer & cockerels at 5.30am! But you’ll be rewarded by stunning views, gorgeous scenery, tombs & amphitheatres, delicious & authentic Turkish food., Friendly & enthusiastic leader Nabill loved sharing his country, its history, people & culture., Recommend staying a day or two each end of the holiday, though check transfers from the airport as Explore don’t always include these now if you don’t arrive on the trip dates which feels a little unfair if you’re prepared to return to the airport.
Well planned walks and itinerary, beautiful flora, views and history. Great group of people and a good tour leader made it a memorable holiday. The only negative was the group transfer back to the airport when the driver was very fast and unsafe.
Fantastic trip, Turkey is beautiful and the trip is well planned. Nebil is a great guide. He gave us lots of information and ensured we are well taken care of.
The trip was great and l thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks especially to our leader Nebil who was one of the best guides I've had (across several walking/trekking companies). He was charming, funny, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and well-organised. And he was firm when he needed to be, not recommending the usual route when the weather was bad. Having trust in the leader is my prime consideration in such trips and Nebil was very watchful over the whole group. The trip notes made it clear we were going to be in a range of accommodation to help us experience Turkish life and these experiences helped to make the trip memorable. Of course, sharing the week with a nice group of people helped!
Very enjoyable trip . Leader was knowledgeable and looked after the group well through his good organisation.
It was a great trip overall; it has provided a broader & greater love for Turkey. Local born, enthusiastic guides definitely enhance the experience with their warmth for the history, country, traditions and other locals along the way. It would undoubtedly be a significantly poorer adventure without this. The use of small more personal accommodation was much appreciated and the kindness shown each of us was exceptional. Sadly the facilities & service in the final hotel in Kas failed to reach the level we had elsewhere. The trail itself was more challenging than expected (perhaps grade 3 +) but even a relatively novice hill walker like myself managed it. The 12 people in our group were varied in age but good company and this small size group is much preferred. The final days boat trip was fantastic. It might be worth tagging a recommendation of arrive & leave a day either side to have time to visit Fethiye at the beginning and enjoy a cool down day at the end back in Dalaman/Oludeniz. I look forward to travelling with Explore again.
This trip surpassed our expectations in every way. The hikes were beautiful, with stunning scenery, wildflowers and wildlife. The accommodation was comfortable and the itinerary nicely balanced. Nebil, our tour leader, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and so passionate about the Lycian Way and the local areas that he made the tour hugely more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise. I can't recommend enough!
I really enjoyed the views and scenery on this trip, although the steepness and roughness of the trail worried me initially, it became increasingly easier to traverse the trails and paths in following days especially due to the incredible feeling of accomplishment after each day. Note though that the trails themselves didn’t become more easy to navigate. An added positive for our group of ten was the excellent spirit and enthusiasm from our ever so knowledgeable and experienced tour guide Nebil Üster. A very happy customer. Regards
Our guide Nebil was really fantastic-so fun, knowledgeable and very patient as we are over 70 though experienced hikers. He did a great job of personalizing the experience as he knows the paths like the inside of his heart. We had the most perfect weather- the views were spectacular! I would however, caution anyone interested in the hike that there are a few parts that are a bit treacherous and the whole of it is extremely rocky. Balance is often tricky and sticks are recommended! We have been on a lot of hikes, and this one should really be rated a 3.5.
We had a really enjoyable week exploring the Lycian way. Our group bonded very quickly with a great mix of nationalities - all lovely people. We were immediately put at ease by our excellent guide Nebil, who was a mine of useful info about Turkey and the Lycians, kept us all safe on the walk, motivated to enjoy the trip to the max, and entertained us day and night with his good humour and funny stories. The local people we met were all delightful - extremely friendly, welcoming and hospitable. Travelling in April, we were lucky with the weather, a lovely combination of brilliant sunshine, not too hot or humid and with snow-topped mountains and beautiful azure seas in the background. We also enjoyed the fauna - tortoises, lizards, goats and friendly village dogs. Particular highs included the village stay, our frequent stops for freshly squeezed orange or pomegranate juice or tea / turkish coffee and our end of day cold Efes beers. We finished on a real high - our last day combined a 10k walk, boat trip to visit an ancient sunken city, a lovely swim in the sea, delicious barbecue on the boat, castle visit, and a very special dinner in the evening on a balcony with an amazing view over Kas bay as the sun set. We all went to bed tired but very happy and vowing to stay in touch. The walking can be quite challenging at times - steep climbs and descents and a LOT of rocks - but we all managed it with no injuries or complaints, just the odd blister or scratch and aching knees and feet. Comfortable boots are a must and walking poles are highly recommended.
A great week of walking with some challenges underfoot. Beautiful coastal views at times. Nebil was a consummate leader with great interpersonal skills, a good sense of humour and top notch care for his flock! P.S. Excellent Mediterranean food on the way!
The trip was very well organised and a great value for money. Alper was an excellent guide. He was experienced, knowledgeable, considerate towards our needs and friendly. We learnt a lot from him about the local flora and fauna, about the country's culture and traditions and the ancient Lycian civilisation. I loved this trip as it combined and outdoor activity with the exploration of ancient history. The costal views we saw during the hikes were stunning. We also had the opportunity to taste delicious traditional food made from fresh products and meet some lovely locals. The only downside was an issue with the warm water in one of the hotels.
An amazing trip with beautiful coastlines. Alper the tour guide was brilliant going above and beyond for the whole week. The trip was let down by a substandard hotel in Kas. I understand it is the end of the season, but as a basic need it should have hot water and as the bar was closed it should have a kettle in the room.
Experience was absolutely fantastic with accommodation adding a rusting feel to the trip. I have really experienced local culture and food. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the areas we explored. I would definitely recommend this trip. Value for money was great.
Beautiful part of the world, superb local guide with a really good understanding of how best to share the history and culture of the area. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Stunningly beautiful and dramatic scenery! Our guide, Zenab, was fantastic: knowledgeable about the terrain and historical/culturally interesting sites, fun, and encouraging in the challenging stretches :). The trek was well paced. Accommodations were basic, sometimes the showers didn't quite get all the way to hot, but i probably wouldn't have changed a thing.
