Itinerary
Discover the untouched beauty of Nepal’s Everest region on the Gokyo Valley Circuit trek, a journey that promises pristine alpine landscapes and exhilarating adventure. Starting from the famed Lukla airport, your route follows the Dudh Kosi River, winding through the vibrant Sherpa communities of Namche Bazaar and Khumjung before reaching the tranquil Gokyo Valley.
What sets this trekking tour apart is its exclusivity—Gokyo’s trails are less traveled than those to Everest Base Camp, offering a quieter, more immersive experience. The highlight is the ascent of Gokyo Ri (5,360m), where panoramic views span four of the world’s highest peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu. The vista over the vast Ngozumpa Glacier and the emerald Gokyo Lakes is nothing short of spellbinding.
The circuit continues over Renjo La Pass and returns via the historic village of Thame, ensuring a diversity of landscapes and cultural encounters. Designed for young adults and trekkers seeking a classic Himalayan adventure, the itinerary incorporates gradual acclimatization and comfortable stays in guesthouses and teahouses.
The unique selling point of this tour package is its blend of phenomenal high-altitude scenery and quieter trails—making it a top pick for those desiring both adventure and serenity in the heart of the Himalayas.
day 1 - Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2886m) - Trek to Phakding
You begin today’s trek from Lukla following a gentle climb up the mountainside on the left bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Nupla (5885m) can be seen in the distance on the opposite bank, and is a peak atop the Kongde Ridge. You descend a mountainside path that merges into your route to Everest, with views to a valley to your right; and at its far end, Kusum Kang (6367m.) The Dudh Kosi approaches as you pass a Mani wall and arrive at a Ghat teahouse. You continue along a small path with many climbs and descents following the left bank of Dudh Koshi to Phakding. Stay overnight in a tea house lodge.
day 2 - Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.) (5 hours)
This day you trek and cross the rivers via high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo (2800m.) is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was set up to protect and preserve this fragile mountain environment. You then ascend quite steeply to Namche Bazaar and along the way, if the weather is clear, catch a first glimpse of Mt Everest in the distance. You can also enjoy the view of Mt. Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Konde-Ri and Tawache peak. You will also visit some of the village monasteries on the way trekking to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.). Stay over night at a hotel in Namche

day 4 - Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole (4040m.) via Khumjung,
From Namche the route heads up all the way to Khumjung, a picturesque village which also has its own gompa at the top end of town. Soon after leaving Khumjung the trail climbs to a large chorten on top of a ridge. This ridge descends from Khumbila, a 5734m peak, said to be the abode of the patron God of the Khumbu region. The trail descends slightly towards the Sanasa and then ascends up to Mongla (4000m.). From here, you can see panoramic views of various mountains. You trek a steeply descending pass through Phortse Tenga and from there, the trail climbs steeply to Dole, through rhododendron and birch forest festooned with hanging mosses and lichens. You can enjoy a delicious meal at Phortse Tenga (3650m.). Stay over night in a tea house lodge.
day 5 - Trek from Dole to Machhermo (4150m) (5 hours)

Stay overnight in a tea house lodge.

Very scenic and easy to do trek
We did Gokyo Ri trek in August. Being it monsoon season, our biggest concern was the weather. We were ensured it is doable during the rainy season as well and since we had all tickets booked and everything arranged we decided to go with it and it turned out to be the best choice! It is very beautiful in August, all the hills are green and its very warm even at the higher altitude, means less packing. And for me personally, the main advantage was that it is quiet on the trek during off-season. We still met few people, which was nice, but not too many, so you get to enjoy peace and quiet. It also gives you a better choice for accommodation. Visibility is quite good as most early morning the sky is clear and if it rains it only starts late in the afternoon and we never got wet on the trek as our guide was very knowledgeable about the weather and we had always reached our lodge by the time the rain started. I could not recommend this trek enough, it offers absolutely stunning views and Gokyo Ri is quite easy to do even being at a very high altitude. And don't be put off by monsoon rains.
