Greatest trip of my life

Trekking through Upper Mustang was one of the best experiences of my life. The landscapes were the most breathtaking I’ve ever seen, and the cultural experience—monasteries, villages, and local traditions—was unforgettable. My guide, Rammesh, was absolutely amazing. He was knowledgeable, caring, and made the trek feel smooth, safe, and deeply meaningful. I can’t imagine a better guide.

Everest Base Camp Trek review by Julian Pomery

I'm 70. I had a yearning to see Everest since I was quite young. As I grew older, I hoped to do the trip with my sons but the length of the trip was not conducive. I wasn't particularly fit but trained for a few months beforehand, not knowing if I could manage the amount of walking , let alone the unknown element of altitude. Arriving in Kathmandu, the hotel was excellent and we had time to visit the old city of Thamel. The flight to Lukla was a great experience in a small plane, next the start of the trek. The 'Teahouses' along the way offered a warm convivial welcome, with varying numbers of other trekkers present. Suspension-bridge crossings, some several hundred metres long were great! We were lucky to have clear visibility and sunshine nearly every day as we progressed ever higher amid awe-inspiring scenery, expertly led by our leader Valerie Parkinson, and Nepalese guide Saroje. Our yakman Nawang took care of all our luggage except for our light daysacks. We gazed up at Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Macalu, Pumori, to name but a few peaks. From various vantage points including the aptly named Everest View Hotel, we had excellent views of Everest with the South Summit and South Col. We experienced at first hand the logistical marvel of how everything is transported up here; by yak, mule, dzo or porter. Bird-life included Vultures and Golden Eagles soaring overhead, plus Tibetan Snow birds that took a fancy to my lemon drizzle cake on Kala Patthar during our final acclimatisation trek. After taking in the Kumbhu Glacier, we reached Gorak Shep before the final push to Everest Base Camp itself. Unlike most other treks, we had ample time at Base Camp rock before the short walk to one of the expedition camps where we stayed overnight, amongst an array of camps looking like something out of a Bond movie. We witnessed a massive avalanche, and spent time on the ice shelf, truly surreal amongst the surrounding peaks. Overall, it was tough but an utterly amazing experience, in the competent hands of our leader Valerie, a lifetime goal achieved.

A Life-Changing Adventure

Embarking on the Everest Base Camp Trek was an experience that far exceeded my expectations. From the logistical arrangements to the incredible landscapes, every aspect of this trek was meticulously handled, making it a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Pre-Trek Arrangements: The preparation process made by this tour company was thorough and well-organized. Their pre-trek briefing covered everything from physical preparation to cultural insights, providing us with a comprehensive understanding of what to expect. The team’s commitment to ensuring we were well-prepared was evident in their detailed gear recommendations and clear communication. Guides and Porters: Our Sherpa guides were exceptional. Mingma, our lead guide, was not only an expert in navigating the challenging terrain but also a source of inspiration and encouragement. His deep knowledge of the region and its history, coupled with his warm and friendly demeanor, made the trek enjoyable and educational. The porters, who carried our gear with impressive efficiency and cheerfulness, were also a crucial part of the experience, ensuring our trek was as smooth as possible. The Trekking Experience: The trek itself was a mix of breathtaking natural beauty and challenging physical demands. Starting from Lukla, we were immediately struck by the grandeur of the Himalayas. The trek took us through picturesque villages, lush forests, and over suspension bridges with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The gradual ascent was well-planned, with acclimatization days allowing us to adjust to the increasing altitude. Cultural Experiences: One of the standout aspects of the trek was the cultural immersion. We had the opportunity to interact with local Sherpas, learn about their traditions, and experience their hospitality firsthand. Visiting monasteries and witnessing traditional rituals added a rich cultural dimension to the trek, making it more than just a physical challenge. Accommodation and Meals: The teahouses along the route provided a comfortable and welcoming place to rest each night. The rooms were basic but adequate, and the communal dining areas were a great place to share stories and enjoy delicious meals. The food was varied and well-prepared, with options ranging from traditional Nepali dishes to familiar Western fare. Summit and Reflection: Reaching Everest Base Camp was the highlight of the trek. Standing at the base of Everest, with its towering presence and surrounding peaks, was an awe-inspiring moment. The sense of achievement and the stunning views made every step of the trek worthwhile. Safety and Support: The company's focus on safety was evident throughout the journey. The guides monitored our health and provided support as needed, ensuring that everyone was well-hydrated and acclimatized. Their attention to detail and commitment to our well-being made the trek both safe and enjoyable. Conclusion: The company provided an exceptional trekking experience that combined adventure, cultural immersion, and personal growth. Their professionalism, expertise, and passion for the Himalayas ensured that our journey was seamless and unforgettable. For anyone considering the Everest Base Camp Trek, this company comes highly recommended for an extraordinary adventure.
