Head to your first adventure: the fascinating Cango Caves. Go underground to explore its limestone chambers. See the intriguing shapes of its stalactites and stalagmites, and the remnants of Khoikhoi paintings.
Choose between the easy-going Heritage Tour to test the cave’s acoustics and learn about the formation and evolution of dripstone, or the Adventure tour, which allows you to twist and wiggle your way through limestone chimneys.
Spend the rest of the day in the quaint town of Oudtshoorn. Don’t forget to try its local delicacies.
day 2 - Oudtshoorn – Sedgefield, South Africa
Canoeing in Touws River and optional activities
Start the day with an optional Elephant Bush Walk (R405), where you’ll have the opportunity to walk along three rescued elephants in their natural environment. The beautiful creatures were orphaned due to illegal poaching in northern South Africa, and then transferred to Buffelsdrift. You’ll have the chance to take many pictures as you want and ask questions to the rangers.
Continue with an afternoon paddle along the Touws River, deep in Wilderness National Park. Paddle, let the gentle current guide you, and enjoy some bird-watching. Reach Bloukrans Bridge, the world’s highest commercial bridge bungy jump. Hurtle face first down the 216m drop only to spring back up on their elastic cord like a yoyo (R990). If heights are not your thing, go visit the famous 1000-year-old yellowwood tree with a 90m circumference.
Explore the town of Sedgefield for the rest of the evening.
