See the highlights of India during this 21-day, private tour designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the diverse landscape and cultural wonders of India's north and south.
From the majestic Taj Mahal in Agra and forts and palaces of Rajasthan to the Hindu and Jain temples of Khajuraho and Varanasi, from vibrant, chaotic cities of Delhi and Mumbai to serene tea plantation and rural backwaters of Kerala, this epic journey is for those whom want to explore one of the world's largest countries and home to civilizations whose history go back by millennia.
Starting from Delhi, this trip will come to an end in Cochin. Please note that domestic flight tickets as well as entrance fees to monuments are not included in the tour price.
day 1 - Delhi arrival
Our representative will meet you upon arrival at the international airport in Delhi and transfer you to the hotel. Delhi stands as a symbol of India's magnificent past and thriving present. This city has never failed to amaze its visitors with its beautiful blend of various groups, diverse cultures and traditions as well as with its heritages of a bygone eras. You are free after checking into the hotel. Stay overnight in Delhi.
day 2 - Delhi sightseeing tour
Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and meet your tour guide. Visit Chandni Chowk – the oldest and biggest bazaar in Old Delhi Later, walk up to the Fatehpuri Mosque and enjoy a rickshaw ride from the mosque to Red Fort.
Meet our driver outside the fort and hop into the car. Drive past the fort (a 17th century historical monument) to reach Rajghat, where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. An eternal flame burns on one side of this memorial.
Next, we will take you to Humayun's Tomb, widely regarded as India's first garden-style tomb. Inspired by the Persian architectural style, the main highlight of this tomb are the four garden squares surrounded by passages and channel for supplying water.
Drive past Rashtrapati Bhawan (the resident of India's president). See the residence of the president of India and India Gate, an archway built in honor of the soldiers who died in World War I. Visit Qutub Minar, built by Qutab-ud-din Aibak in 1193 AD to mark the beginning of the Muslim rule in India. Stay overnight in Delhi.
day 3 - Delhi – Jhansi (by train), Jhansi – Khajuraho via Orchha
We will drive you to the railway station in Delhi after breakfast for your train to Jhansi. Deboard the train on arrival in Jhansi and drive to Khajuraho via Orchha.
Orchha, a city dotted with artistically-beautiful palaces and temples built by Bundela rulers in the 16th and 17th centuries. Visit the Orchha Fort complex. See Jehangir Mahal, built in the 17th century by Raja Bir Singh Deo to commemorate the visit of Emperor Jehangir to Orchha.
Explore Raj Mahal, known for its exquisite interiors and colourful murals based on religious themes. Visit the Ram Raja Temple, where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king, as well as the nearby Laxminarayan Temple, whose interiors contain some of the most exquisite wall paintings. Stay overnight in Orchha.
Later, continue your drive to Khajuraho and check into your hotel on arrival.
day 4 - Khajuraho sightseeing tour
Khajuraho is a small town located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh that is known for its Hindu and Jain temples, popularly known as the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, a Unesco World Heritage site.
Khajuraho was the capital of the Chandela kings and its temples were built in a short span of a hundred years, between 950 AD to 1050 AD. Most of them were destroyed by Muslim invaders and only 22 temples remain of the original 85.
Khajuraho temples are covered with hundreds of figures - a galaxy of gods and goddesses, beasts and serpents and a multitude of erotic sculptures. Explore the Khajuraho Group of Temples and learn more about the history and grandeur of Chandela Kings. Stay overnight at your hotel in Khajuraho.
day 5 - Khajuraho – Varanasi (by flight)
After breakfast, our company representative will drive you to the airport for your flight to Varanasi (flight tickets are not included in the tour price). We will meet you on arrival in Varanasi and transfer you to your hotel. You are free for the rest of the day.
Located on the banks of the River Ganges, the second largest river in India, Varanasi has a rich history going back by 3,000 years. This place is also one of the holiest pilgrimage sites of the Hindus.
day 6 - Varanasi sightseeing tour
Your Varanasi sightseeing tour begins with an early morning boat ride on the River Ganges. Soak up the spectacular sunrise views and, later, return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, head to Sarnath, where Lord Buddha gave preached Buddhism for the first time.
Later, visit the new Vishwanath Temple, also known as “Birla Mandir”. Located inside Banaras Hindu University, it is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva (God of Destruction). It took around 35 years to build this temple.
Your next destination is the Tulsi Manas Temple, built by the royal family of Banaras in 1964. It is believed to be the place where the legendary poet Tulsidas wrote the great Indian epic “Ramcharitramanas”. Close to this temple is the Durga Temple dedicated to Goddess Durga.
Witness the spectacular Ganga aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat in the evening. This evening ceremony takes place everyday and has been going on in one form or the other for thousands of years now. Stay overnight in Varanasi.
day 7 - Varanasi – Delhi (by flight ) & Delhi – Agra
Drive to the airport after breakfast and board your flight to Delhi. The journey continues from Delhi airport, where we will meet you on landing, to Agra by road. Agra is a a beautiful city located on the banks of the River Yamuna. Check into your hotel on arrival in the city.
day 8 - Agra sightseeing tour
Agra rose to prominence as the capital of Mughal emperors from 1526 AD to 1628 AD. It still remains a popular tourist destination because of its many splendid Mughal-era monuments, most notably the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, all of which are Unesco World Heritage sites.
Visit the Taj Mahal, the most extravagant symbol of love, dedication and purity ever that took almost 22 years to build, early in the morning. It is an ivory-white marble monument where rest the mortal remains of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (who built this monument) and his wife Mumtaz.
An interesting fact about this stunning edifice is that it turns pinkish in the morning, milky white in the evening and golden at night as the moonlight falls upon it. Watch the sun rise over this iconic monument before heading back to your hotel for breakfast.
Next, visit Agra Fort, which resembles the magnificent Red Fort in Delhi. See its magnificent halls and Sheesh Mahal (palace of mirrors). Later, visit the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah (also known as "Baby Taj") located in the middle of a garden. Stay overnight in Agra.
day 9 - Agra – Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri
Drive to the beautiful city of Jaipur after breakfast. Visit Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned city of the Mughals, en route. This city boasts some magnificent monuments built during the Mughal era, including Panch Mahal, Buland Darwaza and the Tomb of Salim Chishti.
You will get enough time to explore Fatehpur Sikri continuing your journey. Check into your hotel upon arrival in Jaipur, also known as India's "Pink City" due to extensive use of pink sandstone in its buildings. Its monuments showcase a myriad of architectural styles and its vibrant bazaars are famous for traditional handicrafts and jewellery. The ambiance of this city speaks volumes of the lavish lifestyle of the Rajput kings. Stay overnight at a hotel in Jaipur.
day 10 - Jaipur sightseeing tour
Later in the afternoon you are free to visit the famous Markets of Textiles, Gems, Carpets, and handicrafts. Jaipur is an ideal place for buying souvenirs. Overnight stay is at hotel in Jaipur.
Head for the famous Amer Fort, dating back to the 16th century, after breakfast. This fort displays private halls, pavilions and private chambers of kings and members of royalty. Enjoy an elephant ride in the fort.
Next, head for City Palace, Jaipur, which consists of private and public chambers, courtyards, gateways, private chambers of kings and royalty and a lot more. Later, head to Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory that features the world’s largest sundial. Visit Hawa Mahal, a five-storey palace built in 1799 AD during Rajput rule.
This palace is popular for its intricately designed 953 windows adorned with spectacular latticework. You are free to explore the city on your own once the tour is over late in he afternoon.
We suggest you explore Jaipur's markets selling textiles, gems, carpets and handicrafts and buy some souvenirs if you want to. Stay overnight at a hotel in Jaipur.
day 11 - Jaipur – Udaipur
Drive to Udaipur and check into your hotel in the city on arrival. This beautiful, historic city was founded in 1533 AD and is named after its founder, Maharaja Udai Singh. Within the city are azure lakes as well as forts and temples mostly dating back to the Rajput era in Rajasthan.
Udaipur is renowned for its incredibly beautiful Lake Palace on the banks of Pichola Lake as well as Udaipur Solar Observatory, considered the best solar observatory in Asia.
Stay overnight at a hotel in Udaipur.
day 12 - Udaipur sightseeing tour
Your Udaipur sightseeing tour starts after breakfast. Visit City Palace, Udaipur, built in 1559 and overlooking Lake Pichola. The main attractions of this palace are its durbar hall, crystal gallery, Palace Museum and Jagdish Temple.
Later, visit Sahelion Ki Bari, a small, ornamental garden meant for the rulers, followed by a trip to Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal, which features a collection of folk art items. Enjoy a boat ride in Lake Pichola, an artificial freshwater lake built in 1362 AD that is also the oldest and one of the largest lakes in the city.
We will then take you to a sound and light show in City Palace, Udaipur. The show, titled "Yash ki Dharohar" (Legacy of Honor), takes you on a fascinating, one-hour journey of Udaipur's past, specially that of the Mewar dynasty that ruled over this place. Stay overnight in Udaipur.
day 13 - Udaipur – Mumbai (by flight)
We will transfer you to the airport after breakfast for your flight to Mumbai (airfare not included in the tour price). Meet our representative upon landing in India's financial and entertainment capital and transfer to your hotel. You are free for the rest of the day.
day 14 - Mumbai sightseeing tour
Set off on a sightseeing tour of Mumbai after breakfast. Your first destination is the Elephanta Caves located on the Elephanta island. Enjoy a ferry ride from the Gateway of India to the island. These caves were built between fifth and eighth centuries and are a set of rock-cut cave temples.
An impressive, 20-feet-high Trimurthi featuring the three aspects of Lord Shiva (creator, protector and destroyer) is the prime highlight of this cave temple. Head back to the jetty to take the ferry back to the Gateway of India after having explored the monument.
Spend some time taking pictures at the Gateway of India, one of Mumbai's most important landmarks. This monument was built in 1924 to honor King George V and Queen Mary's visit to India in 1911.
Next, visit the Prince of Wales Museum, also called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, built during the early 20th century. This museum is a blend of Indo-Saracenic architecture with an impressive white dome on the top. This museum is said to have around 2,000 miniature paintings along with artefacts belonging to the Indus Valley civilization.
Later, visit the Hanging Gardens, which came into being in 1880, located in the Malabar Hills. A splendid view of the Arabian Sea adds to the beauty of this natural realm. A striking flower clock is the main attraction here. End your Mumbai sightseeing tour with a visit to Marine Drive, the heart and soul of Mumbai stretched across the coast of Arabian Sea. Illuminated by lights at nights, the drive gives an impression of a dazzling chain, the reason why it is also called "Queen's Necklace".
day 15 - Mumbai – Kochi (by flight)
We will transfer you to the airport in Mumbai for your journey south (flight tickets not included in the tour price).
Kochi, also known as Cochin, is a beautiful city in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. Over the years, the history and development of this city carries stubborn marks of the British, Arabs, Chinese, Dutch, and Portuguese. It is undoubtedly the best starting point on your discovery to capture the beauty of Kerala.
Visit Fort Kochi, located on the western coast of India amid the pristine waters of the Arabian Sea. The architecture of this gorgeous fort uncovers the layers of colonial influence ingrained in the landscape of this city. Visit Saint Francis Church (closed on Sundays) located in the middle of the fort’s complex.
Built in the year 1503 AD, it is the oldest church built by Europeans in India. The lofty architecture of this church is impressive in every way and it has managed to retain its ancient charm over the years. Also, visit the Jewish synagogue located close to Fort Kochi. It was built in 1568 AD and is a showpiece displaying hand-painted floor tiles, Belgium-imported glass chandeliers, rare antiques and an exclusive gallery.
Your Kochi sightseeing tour ends with a trip to see Chinese fishing nets. They are the hallmarks of Fort Kochi and are said to have been brought to this part of the world by Chinese explorer Zheng He.
day 16 - Kochi – Munnar
Drive to Munnar after breakfast. Munnar is a beautiful hill station named after three rivers, the Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly, and is a popular honeymoon destination in Kerala that offers spellbinding views of vast spice and tea plantations.
This place also boasts the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, and is surrounded by various wildlife sanctuaries that house grizzled giant squirrels, elephants, gaurs, Nilgiri langurs, sambars and the endangered Nilgiri tahrs.
Stay overnight in Munnar.
day 17 - Munnar sightseeing tour
After breakfast, we will take you to a tea estate. Munnar is renowned for its tea plantations. Walk through sprawling plantations and soak yourself in the refreshing aroma of tea leaves. You can also visit the Tea Museum that showcases old photographs and huge machinery that were used in tea processing in the past. Also, get a first-hand experience of how tea is processed.
Continue the sightseeing tour to Eravikulam National Park. This national park is home to the exotic Nilgiri tahr and various other endangered species. Please note that the park is closed during the mating season of this endangered species.
See the Mattupetty Dam, a concrete gravity dam constructed between 1949 AD and 1953 AD. The captivating reflections of the surrounding tea gardens falling upon the still water is the best part of this dam.
day 18 - Munnar – Thekkady
Your next destination on the itinerary is Thekkady. Nestled amid the Western Ghats, Thekkady entices visitors from throughout the world with its rich biodiversity and natural vistas. It is famous for its wildlife sanctuary, a major tiger reserve in India. Check into the hotel on arrival.
day 19 - Thekkady sightseeing tour
Visit the popular Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a royal Bengal tiger reserve, after breakfast. This wildlife reserve is also home to elephants, wild boars, leopards, etc. In case you want to, you can also book the optional boat ride in Periyar Lake and enjoy seeing the wild animals that come to the lake to quench their thirst. Stay overnight at hotel in Thekkady.
day 20 - Thekkady – Alleppey
Proceed to Alleppey after breakfast. Also called the "Venice of India", Alleppey is located in the Alapuzzha district of Kerala. On arrival, board a houseboat, locally called Kettuvallam. Cruise around backwaters of Alleppey to observe and experience the daily life of the villagers along the way. Enjoy your dinner and a pleasant overnight stay in the houseboat in Alleppey.
day 21 - Alleppey – Cochin
Enjoy an early morning breakfast and, after some relaxation on the houseboat, disembark the boat at the jetty in Alleppey. We will transfer you to the airport in Cochin for your onward flight.
