Venture into Austria’s spectacular Salzkammergut region with the "Dachstein Circuit Hike," a 12-day self-guided walking tour tailored for experienced travelers and seniors with a taste for adventure. Starting and ending in Gosau, this trip encircles the dramatic Dachstein massif, famed for its glaciers, soaring limestone peaks, and vast alpine meadows.

Each day, you'll trek across varied terrain—past glistening ice fields, tranquil lakes, and some of Austria’s largest caves—soaking in breathtaking panoramas from elevations up to 2,995 meters. The route includes stays in welcoming mountain hotels and three atmospheric nights in remote huts perched high on the massif, offering an authentic alpine experience.

The real draw of this tour package is its immersive circuit of the Dachstein Mountain, combining physical challenge, comfort, and unparalleled natural beauty. All accommodations, meals, and transport are included, ensuring you can focus on savoring the adventure and the stunning Salzkammergut landscapes.

Day 1Arrive Gosau

Day 2Hike to Hofpürgel Hutte with overnight backpack (4-5hrs)

Day 3Hike between lodges then descend to the Türlwand, overnight Ramsau (6hrs)

Day 4Rest day in Ramsau

Day 5Ascend Dachstein Glacier, hike to Guttenberg Lodge with overnight backpack (4-5hrs)

Day 6Hike to Grafenbergalm and on to a hotel above Groebming (6hrs)

Day 7Descend to Bad Mitterndorf (8 hrs)

Day 8Train to Bad Aussee, hike to Obertrauner Höhenweg then boat to Hallstatt (4-5 hrs)

Day 9Visit caves and ride the Krippenstein cable car

Day 10Hike to Bad Goisern and on to Goiserer lodge with overnight backpack (7hrs)

Day 11Hike to Gosau (2-3hrs)

8 nights accommodation on a twin share basis in 3 star mountain hotels/inns, 3 nights in mountain huts on a multishare basis

Meals

11 breakfasts, 11 dinners (does not include drinks) – continental breakfasts are served and usually consist of breads, jams, meats, cheeses, coffee, tea and juices. Dinner will consist of 1 to 3 course hikers meals in the huts and 3 courses in the hotels which may include regional specialties
