Note: From October 2024 we have extended the northbound Cape Town to Cairo section of the itinerary on this trip to include Eswatini, the Caprivi strip in Namibia, more time in Mozambique, and time in Zambia, Burundi, Somaliland and Djibouti. As we are currently not able to drive through northern Ethiopia or Sudan, we will be leaving the truck in Addis Ababa and flying to Egypt from there (flight not included) before completing the Egyptian section of the trip after that using local transport (buses, trains) and staying in local hotels. We have had to run our last two trips like this and it has worked well.

Itinerary was fascinating, food and cultural experiences were wonderful, all local people interactions were friendly and hospitable, tour leader was excellent, Morocco is a wonderful country. A bit too much windshield time between sites but this can't be avoided. The hotels, riads, and gites were fun and authentic. Loved this trip.

Overall the experience was amazing … as you can check and see we did multiple back to back tours and got an awesome appreciation for the countries and cultures we got to experience. Note there was a 2 week gap in the middle where we travelled with Rovos Rail which contributed to our overall experience but the NatGeo/GAd included village visits etc that allowed us to be up close and personal with people to appreciate their lifestyle.

It was one of the best experiences of my life! Hiking Kilimanjaro was unbelievably beautiful, with ever changing scenery. The G Adventures support crew felt like our extended family. They went above & beyond for us, were friendly & funny, kept an eye out for us when the hiking got tough, and sang us all the way to the top of Kilimanjaro. It was a wonderful trip thanks to an exceptional guide, Africa's own treasured wildlife and habitats, and the kind generosity of the natives who shared with us this spectacular part of the world. Yes, the pre-trip paperwork could have been less confusing . The logistics should maybe have been worked out earlier and more definitely. Mixture of hotels as per say with Explore, from full electricity to an African Hut lit by candle light. Please note accommodation is very basic compared to Western standards which Assan stressed to the group on the first day of the trip.
As mentioned in the itinerary there is a heavy emphasis on the bird life and the majority of trips are geared towards the birds. If birds are your thing then this is a trip for you.
The guide Assan is an excellent & enthusiastic birder with a comprehensive knowledge of the birds from The Gambia & Senegal.
Assan is a very open and honest guide & will relay his personal experiences of his own village life in The Gambia.
Driver Cering was excellent & ensured we were all safe & comfy on the long journeys on the bumpy African roads.
Bottled was provided on the bus along with regular local fruits.
Food wise, a lot of enthesis on fish cooked and served whole.
I am a vegetarian non fish eating and with help from Assan I never went hungry.
Local children enjoyed the sweets the group brought from the U.K.

What really made this trip special was how much variety it packed into 12 days. It never felt repetitive. One day we were out on a game drive in Kruger National Park, watching elephants cross the road right in front of our vehicle. Next, we were in a completely different setting, standing in front of Victoria Falls, feeling the spray on our faces. It was surreal to experience such different landscapes and wildlife in such a short span of time.
The weather also helped. It was nearly perfect throughout the tour. Mornings were cool and crisp, great for early safaris, and by afternoon it would warm up just enough without being uncomfortable. Every place felt timed just right. Our guide knew when to slow down and when to move on so we never missed anuything.
Cape Town, especially, stood out. Seeing the Table Mountain was unlike anything I’d seen before. We took the cable car up, which was an optional tour and the views of the city and coastline were incredible. There was also a nice balance of cultural activities. We also did Winelands tour which yet was another amaing experience.
I had some concerns before booking, but everything, from airport pickups to hotel check-ins was butter smooth. I felt safe and taken care of. You should surely give this one a try if you're traveling to South Africa for thr first time.
