The Pacuare’s class 3 and 4 rapids are suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers, ages 12 and older, who are ready for adventure and being physically active all day. After an early pick-up at your San Jose area hotel, we will drive to Cartago – Costa Rica’s historic capital city – and through small towns and countryside to the rafting hub of Turrialba. We’ll stop for breakfast (included) and afterward head to the Pacuare River put in. At the river, your guides will outfit you with rafting equipment and give a paddling explanation and safety talk. Then the fun begins! We’ll paddle 18 miles downriver through class 3 and 4 rapids like “Huacas,” “Rodeo,” “Pinball,” “Cimarrones,” and “Dos Montañas.” Along the way, we’ll stop for a riverside picnic lunch. After finishing rafting, you’ll be able to change into dry clothes before driving back to San Jose.

Leaving San José the tour traverses the majestic scenery of Braulio Carrillo National Park and arriving at Sarapiqui we will enjoy two adventurous attractions: the Canopy Tour in the middle of a secondary forest with trees of high altitude and after lunch the White Water Rafting in the agitating waters of the Sarapiqui River.The Canopy Tour takes about one and a half hour. The itinerary was very good and included a lot of different and interesting locations concerning Inca history. The route was well thought out with time to acclimatise to the altitude at Araquipa, befor continuing ro the higher levels of Colca Valley , Puna and Lake Titicacca. We felt the impact of the altirude on some of the walks, but the guides were careful to make rwgular stops and take a pace that suited all the group. Hotels and food was excellent throughout the trip. This was definitely a moderate to high paced trip , with early starts to see many places, although the benefit was often an early night! I would definitely recommend this tripto those who are moderately fit ( walking) and like exploring .

Excellent tour. In my view Arturo our guide made sure we made the best of our two weeks making sure we arrived at sites at a good time to make the most of the experience. Our extensive trip by air, minibus and water launch was coordinated superbly well by our Explore Leader Julio. Julio was a font of information well beyond providing details of our tour and places visited. His input to our enjoyment of the trip was invaluable.The itinerary itself provided important stages of acclimatisation with high altitudes being reached. Arequipa was a good start to the acclimatising process and the 'White City' had many attractions. Beyond Arequipa Lake Titicaca and our stay on Taquile Island was memorable. Condors soared over the Colca Valley and the Sacred Valley was stunning with Inca ruins. And of course the extraordinary Mach Pichu visit before finishing in Cusco the one time capital of the Inca Empire. An added trip to Pisac in the Sacred Valley was highly enjoyable.In addition to Julio's input supporting local guides and drivers were most professional and considerate too. Hotel accommodation was a high standard with a more simple arrangement on the remote Taquile Island.Highly recommended for those with a mind for adventure.
