Why Choose a Group Tour in South America?

South America Rewards Well-Planned Logistics

South America is vast, and distances between major attractions are often much greater than they appear. A trip that combines Machu Picchu, the Uyuni Salt Flats, Patagonia, Rio de Janeiro, or the Galapagos can involve multiple flights, border crossings, long road journeys, and varying transport standards. Group tours take the complexity out of planning by coordinating routes, transfers, accommodations, and schedules. This allows travelers to focus on the experience rather than the logistics, while also reducing the risk of costly mistakes or missed connections in unfamiliar destinations.

Access to High-Demand Attractions Is Easier

Many of South America's most sought-after experiences require advance planning. Machu Picchu entrance permits can sell out months ahead, Galapagos cruises have limited capacity, and popular Patagonia treks often require early bookings. Even attractions such as the Inca Trail, Amazon lodges, and certain national parks have visitor limits or seasonal restrictions. Group tours typically secure these arrangements well in advance and bundle them into the itinerary, helping travelers avoid the stress of coordinating multiple reservations across different countries and booking systems.

Traveling Together Adds Comfort and Reassurance

South America is generally rewarding and welcoming, but navigating language differences, busy transport hubs, remote regions, and unfamiliar local customs can feel daunting, especially for first-time visitors. Group tours provide an extra layer of support through experienced tour leaders, local guides, and fellow travelers. Whether crossing borders, adjusting to high altitudes in the Andes, or exploring large cities, having assistance readily available can make the journey feel smoother and more comfortable. The shared experience also creates opportunities to form friendships along the way.

Shared Costs Can Deliver Better Value

Many of South America's most memorable experiences involve transportation and logistics that become more affordable when costs are shared. This includes airport transfers, guided excursions, Amazon boat journeys, Patagonia transportation, and visits to remote archaeological or natural sites. Group tours often benefit from negotiated rates for accommodations, activities, and transport that would cost more when booked independently. For travelers covering multiple countries or regions, these savings can add up quickly, making it possible to enjoy a broader and more comprehensive South American adventure without significantly increasing the budget.

This is a great trip to see a variety of unique environments and to learn about the history of these areas. Andres is an excellent tour guide and leader. As the itinerary is so packed there is limited time for hiking or more strenuous activity. Definitely recommend this trip.

Amazing trip!!!

This trip was a memorable one. I won't forget this one. From the amazing food from Teofilo or Vicente the porter that carried the extra weight when we went over the weight limit.

once in a lifetime scenery but every single day!!

This trip really is an adventure. From San Pedro de Atacama and The Devil's Throat Gorge taking in Geysers (and if you book it yourself the most amazing star gazing astronomy expereince) Chile is impressive but is quickly over shadowed by the wonders of cycling in Salta Argentina. So many days of amazing geology and scenery it is both joyful and overwhelmingly beautiful. Read the full itinerary and then visualise that more or less every one of those days will be spectacular. Highlights included the downhill ride to the Hill of Seven Colours, the Los Cardones National Park (thousands and thousands of cacti and mountains) and the cycle along the Conchas river which is just life affirming. There's also a free day in Salta which is great as it's a traditional Argentian city with a lot of quirky culture and history and some great steak restaurants. We also had quite a few trips to vineyards to do winetasting which Alejandro was happy to organise.

Thoroughly enjoyed this trip and has been one of my favourite trips with Explore. The wildlife has been magical and it was amazing to see such an abundance of animals just on the doorstep of the lodges we were staying in as well as on the tours. The group was a fantastic bunch of people and our driver Haimer was a real gentleman. Our guide Allan was so passionate and it came across in his vast knowledge of wildlife. He was a great organiser and very patient and a pleasure to be around. Thanks again Explore for another fabulous unforgettable experience!

Amazing Galapagos adventure trip

This trip surpassed expectations, travelled early May . Covers 4 islands ( with stays ) plus another as a day visit . Lots of snorkeling and one long hike ( volcano Sierra Negra ) , others are short duration of couple hours . Lots of marine wildlife and land wildlife. Sea lions in abundance , very playful and curious. Swam with penguins, sea lions , hammerhead sharks, turtles, copious amounts of fish , many types of birds seen ( obviously including blue footed boobies) , lots of marine iguanas .

My wife and I have just returned from our 'bucket list' trip 'Simply Peru' with Explore. It lived up to our expectations and then some! The iternary was what we would have hoped for with a few good surprises such as the two days on Lake Titicaca- especially Taquile Island, if a little on the 'cool' side, and Colca Valley and the Condors. Our main highlights were a flight over the Nazca Lines and, of course, Machu Picchu! We also did the Machu Picchu Mountain hike - another highlight. Cuzco is such a wonderful city with some great Inca heritage including Sacsaywaman. There were many, many more highlights not least of which was our tour leader, Erickson Arenas. Thank you Erickson for making this such a memorable holiday. I would recommend this trip to anyone without hesitation. This will take some beating!
