We had an excellent tour guide: helpful, informed, receptive and with a good sense of humour. Most of the hotels were excellent....some slightly less so (Nha Trang for example). The service on the trip was exceptional. The support team of transport, bag carriage and a cycle mechanic were also excellent. Vietnam is fascinating and being on bikes we saw all aspects of the country. We saw its beauty, we saw the industry and pride of its people who were universally very welcoming. We also saw all sorts of things normal tourists, arriving in a large group with little language ability, would not be able to see. Some of the best things were stops in markets, or by rice fields, or at very basic homes or cafes. We saw a lot and visited a lot of different places: a 'grand tour' if you can do such a thing on bikes! The country certainly has issues, in my opinion, with rapid over-development (in the south particularly) with endless giant resorts half finished, being built or built and empty. It also needs to address the issue of litter. It is not alone in facing these issues! I am also certain it has the ability and determination to address them.

I recently completed a 5-day Ha Giang Loop tour, and it was hands down one of the most unforgettable experiences of my travels in Vietnam. The trip was extremely well-organized from start to finish, with every detail taken care of from transport to meals and accommodation. A special shout-out to our guide, Eagle, who truly made the trip exceptional. He was not only enthusiastic and full of energy every day, but also incredibly accommodating and approachable. Whether it was helping with small requests, sharing local insights, or making sure everyone felt included, Eagle went above and beyond to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. The food throughout the tour was consistently excellent fresh, flavorful, and a great mix of local Vietnamese dishes. Accommodation was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Overall, I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore the stunning landscapes of Ha Giang with a team that knows how to deliver a truly memorable and hassle-free experience.

Phenomenal experience travelling through Vietnam 🇻🇳 from top to bottom with our excellent guide “Thin”. We hit gold with an enthusiastic, understanding & knowledgeable local guide. Thin is also a parent to a teenager, so he gets it.. our group was small, which was a fantastic given the hot time of year we traveled end July/Aug… due to UK school holidays.. Thin is a ‘foodie’ so we ate in the most amazing restaurants & no one got sick across the entire trip. He was flexible on the itinerary which was very much appreciated. Everyone we met across the entire country was happy & welcoming. Hotels were very centrally located. Drivers & mini van’s excellent clean & air con. Local tailors, glasses 👓, art - our guide had recommendations & guided us everywhere. We managed the heat better than expected throughout the trip. Hue & Hoi Han are beautiful small towns in central Vietnam French influence everywhere too. Hanoi was a baptism of fire especially crossing the road. All added to the charm. HaLong Bay / the fabulous overnight stay on the junk boat especially with sunrise TaiChi on deck. The beaches were disappointing especially the water.. but heavy tourist traffic is to blame which we contributed too.. Overnight train was clean & smooth albeit long, but safe with other tour groups. Saigon/HCM city is very western and more expensive etc but our hotel was soo central near TimesSq. Mekong Delta is fabulous & the home stay was out of this world with an outdoor shower! Vietnam has so much history, sad times.. the trip includes visits to museums, chi chi tunnels providing an insight into the past wars, eg 2025 marked 50 years since the American War. It’s important we remember those who lost their lives. Highly recommend this trip .. able bodied especially in hot temperatures. Vietnam is thriving & changing.. go before it changes too much. Great tour, would particularly recommend to families with children between about 10-14. Our tour leader, was excellent. Generous with his extensive knowledge, and careful to provide information at times and in ways which all members of our group could appreciate. He was good company as well as a good leader. The tour was fun for all of us (two adults and a 12 year old), and we would all do something similar again.

Duong was an amazing leader with a wonderful sense of humour. He was so passionate and knowledgeable about his country. He cared about each and every one of us and consistently ensured we were all happy and comfortable with arrangements. He would move the itinerary around to suit us and the weather and also suggested and added other extra trips/experience's he thought we may enjoy. Overall, an excellent leader.

What a wonderful trip. Our tour leader Jackie was absolutely brilliant. He was knowledgeable, well organised and took care of us all so well. Jackie was good humoured and solved anything that came up. The itinerary was full on, but we loved that . The accommodation was mixed some good , some brilliant, the hotel in Ho Chi Minh was a bit ropey. Loved it thanks Jackie

Planning tips for solo travelers to Vietnam

Safest destinations in Vietnam for Single Travelers

It is said that Vietnam is the safest country for travelers as long as one doesn’t try to ride a scooter through its major cities. According to Numbeo’s 2024 Safety Index, cities like Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City report low levels of violent crime, with petty theft being the primary concern in crowded areas—easily avoided with basic precautions. Locals are known for their kindness and genuine hospitality toward foreigners, often going out of their way to help despite limited English fluency outside major tourist zones. In popular destinations such as Hoi An, Hue, and Ninh Binh, travelers can expect well-lit streets, walkable neighborhoods, and a strong presence of organized tours that simplify navigation and reduce safety concerns. LGBTQ+ travelers increasingly find inclusive cafes and social spaces in larger cities, while women report feeling secure exploring both day and night when staying aware of surroundings.

Cost of traveling to Vietnam alone

Vietnam is one of the most affordable destinations for solo travelers. Budget travelers can expect to spend around USD 20–30 per day, covering hostel accommodations, street food, and public transport. At Bookmundi, solo trips to Vietnam start at approximately USD 81 per day, offering structured itineraries that include accommodations, transportation, and curated activities. For those desiring private rooms, single supplements apply, varying based on the tour and accommodation type. This option provides solo travelers with a balance of independence and the convenience of organized travel.
