Itinerary

Trade tourist trails for secluded tracks, venturing deep into the remote reaches of northern Vietnam for a unique hiking adventure. Emerald rice terraces and surreal landscapes await, but this trip is so much more than a scenic hike. Meet Dao silversmiths and fire dancers, sleep in an authentic local homestay, and cruise among the limestone pinnacles of Lan Ha Bay. Our stay at an eco-retreat with soothing hot springs will be one to remember, while your local tour leader helps you experience northern Vietnam as only an insider can.

day 1Adventure starts in Hanoi

Begin your adventure in Hanoi, a delicious first taste of Vietnamese culture. Whether you’re buying baguettes and inexpensive coffee from the grand doorways of a past era, drifting alongside Hoan Kiem Lake or roaming the animated streets, the capital will delight your senses.
Around 6pm, say xin chào to your tour leader and fellow travellers, when we gather as a group for the first time to get to know each other and learn more about the adventures ahead.
Your tour leader then ensures a big Vietnamese welcome by arranging dinner at a nearby restaurant.

A trip like no other

This 12 day adventure in Northern Vietnam was so much more than a hiking trip; we were invited into the homes and families of those we stayed with and were offered a genuine insight into their lives. It was such a privilege to spend time with Linh and our other local guides, who told stories of their childhoods in the countryside they led us through. This is a new route and feels untouched by tourism, so it felt very special to be part of this trip.

Unforgettable 2 weeks in Vietnam!!

This was the most incredible two weeks walking through Northern Vietnam. The trip offered the perfect balance of time in vibrant Hanoi and Sapa, while also taking us deep into the remote communities and villages of Ha Giang and the far north. Every day brought stunning scenery—endless rice terraces, dramatic mountains, and beautiful landscapes!

First trip to this area for Exodus

After a rocky start at the airport where the Intrepid representative chose to hide our name from us, we enjoyed an extra day in Hanoi. The parks were interesting as was the prison visit. The bus journeys are long but worth it to see real life in the north. It was interesting seeing lots of folk working in the rice fields. I wasn't sure about the kayaking at Cat Ba but it was really enjoyable and the water was extremely calm.

Spectacular scenery and very enjoyable hikes

Some exceptionally beautiful views and friendly people made this trip a memorable experience. Paths winding around rice fields and through bamboo forests, being led by local guides - very different to the walks I do back home! The warmth of the people we met, some of whom laid on delicious lunches along the hikes, added to the experience. And the cruise around Lan Ha Bay was a pleasant way to relax and enjoy the coastal scenery.
