day 1Join trip in Goreme town in Cappadocia
Our trip starts today in Goreme - this honey-hued town will be our base for the week as we explore the impressive landscapes of Cappadocia. Cappadocia is world-renowned for its unique geological formations and a history stretching back to the Hittites (2000 BC). Due to the number of later arrivals, we'll hold the welcome meeting on the morning of day two. There are no other activities planned today, so you're free to arrive in Goreme at any time. If you'd like an airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Kayseri Airport (ASR), which is around a one-hour and fifteen-minute drive away. Should you miss the welcome meeting, our tour leader will inform you of any essential information as soon as you catch up. Our hotel for the week is the recently renovated Zemi Hotel, located near the centre of Goreme. The hotel sits within a stone's throw of the Open Air Museum and offers a perfect vantage point to watch the sunrise balloon ascent. It also features spa facilities and a seasonal outdoor pool (normally open May to early October), ideal for relaxing in after a day out walking. The hotel features a spacious dining room with a menu including local specialities from the area including Cappadocia’s famous pottery kebab and Kuzu Tandir.

The hotel was perfectly situated for the trip, the rooms lovely and staff were great. I thoroughly enjoyed the hiking. The guide was knowledgable about the area. We did have some friction in the group as we didn’t stick to the itinerary to the letter which upset some. I would recommend this trip to anyone, I loved it.
I chose this trip for the walking and it didn't disappoint. The valley walks with cliffs and ancient cave houses and churches either side, exotic flowers, nut and fruit trees were delightful. The hotel could not have been better and its location was perfect for viewing the coloured hot air balloons that flew over early every morning. Goreme is full of excellent restaurants, cafes and shops selling unusual gifts. Necip the tour leader was superb, very patient, hugely knowledgeable on the history of the region and did an excellent job in balancing the different abilities and interests of group members to provide a good experience for all
A great week offering lots of opportunity to explore this wonderful, unique part of Turkey - a good mix of walking and sightseeing with the chance to take a hot air balloon ride and to experience the serenity of the whirling dervish ceremony. The tour leader was very knowledgeable and accommodating. It was nice to relax and swim in the hotel pool at the end of the day overlooking the amazing scenery. My tip would be to seek out more traditional restaurants in the back streets rather than sticking only to those on the main streets. I would also suggest having a couple of nights in Istanbul before or after the holiday.

A fabulous holiday, all round. Our guide Necip was knowledgeable and able to alter our walks dependant on the weather. The group I was with was small and every day I enjoyed the walking, terrain, views, food and company.
