Pressed for time but eager to experience Morocco’s highlights? This three-day small-group tour from Spain is a whirlwind adventure through the treasures of northern Morocco. Begin your journey with a warm welcome at Tangier Port, then travel to Fez, pausing en route to explore the evocative Roman ruins of Volubilis and the charming town of Moulay Idriss.
Delve deep into Fez’s labyrinthine souks and artisan guilds, where tradition thrives amid medieval alleyways. On your final day, journey to the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen before returning to Tangier via the scenic cliffs of Cape Spartel.
This tour package stands out for its expertly curated route, delivering Morocco’s historical and cultural highlights in just three days—ideal for travelers who seek authentic local flavor and maximum impact from a brief visit.
Meet your tour guide on arrival at the Tangier Port and set off for Fez, with stops and detours along the way to see the highlights of northern Morocco.
Visit the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, which is said to have been the capital of the Roman department of Mauritania during the reign of Caracalla, and see the genius of Roman urban planning. The two central streets that are parts of every Roman castrum, cardo and decumanus, are prominent, with cardo being the boulevard running north to south while decumanus runs east to west. At the intersection between these two is the heart of every Roman city, a forum.
Leave Volubilis behind and head for Moulay Idriss, which was founded in the eighth century by Moulay Idris Al Akbar, a grandson of Prophet Mohamed. The city was initially meant for the people who migrated with Moulay Idris from the Middle East.
Fifteen miles away from Moulay Idris is the imperial city of Meknes, which was built in the 17th century by Moulay Ismail to rival Fez. This city is also known as the 'Versailles of Morocco'.
Your final destination on the itinerary today is the ninth-century city of Fez. See the sights outside its city walls, including its ramparts, gates, and borjas (Moorish forts). Travel back to your hotel for dinner after this introductory aperitif of the city.
Undeniably fascinating, Fez stimulates the senses with its haunting yet beautiful sounds, visual splendour and evocative smells. The most ancient of the imperial capitals of Morocco and the most complete medieval city in the Islamic world, Fez is reminiscent of a city suspended in time, unfazed by the constantly evolving world outsides of its walls.
Spend your morning exploring the medina by foot and see the royal palace. The medina seems frozen in time with its traditional architecture and forms of transport. Only horses, donkeys and mules are allowed to move people and goods inside the medina.
The Jewish quarters come next with their 15th-century citadel, Moorish maze architecture, Sephardic synagogues and mausoleums of holy rabbis. The Merenide Hills offer a panoramic view of the walled medina and countless minarets where faithfuls have gathered dutifully for prayers for nearly 12 centuries.
See a tannery next as you walk to the famous mosque and university of Al Quarrawiyyine. Admire the intricate craftsmanship and tile work of Al-Attarine Madrasa. Further away from Sbetryyine, a guild of bookbinders, is Seffarine Square, home to metalworkers.
Your sightseeing tour continues after a short break in the afternoon. Return to your hotel as the sun sets.
Transfer to Chefchaouen in the morning and explore Morocco's blue city with your local tour guide. There will be a lunch break in the afternoon before we proceed to Tangier. Along the way you will get the chance to see Cape Spartel and the Pillars of Hercules. You might want to take the last stroll in Tangier's ancient kasbah before your ferry takes you back to Spain.
