Overnight in Puerto Natales
Optional: FD tour to Torres del Paine and Milodón Cave
The Full Day Torres del Paine tour begins at your accommodation in Puerto Natales, heading towards Villa Cerro Castillo, the capital of the Torres del Paine commune, located 59 kilometers to the north. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes, providing ample time to discuss and interpret the diverse landscapes, including the dense Magellanic forest, glacial valleys, mountain ranges, and lakes along the route. Weather permitting, we may also spot condors in one of the many nesting areas along the way. Our itinerary continues to the Sarmiento Lake viewpoint, the first photo stop offering views of the Paine Mountain Range. With good weather, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Torres del Paine massif, the southern extension of the Andes, and the imposing Sarmiento Lake. From here, we proceed to one of the most spectacular viewpoints facing the granite towers at Laguna Amarga, a favorite habitat for flamingos due to its ideal feeding conditions. Next, we head to the main entrance of Torres del Paine National Park to register our entry tickets and continue with the itinerary. The following viewpoints include Lake Nordenskjöld, Salto Grande viewpoint, Pehoé viewpoint, Weber Bridge, Paine River, and Grey Lake. At Grey Lake, we will have time for lunch and a walk around the area if weather conditions allow. We then return to the vehicle and exit Torres del Paine National Park through the southern section. Our final stop within the park will be at the most impressive viewpoint on Route Y-290, known as Grey Viewpoint. From here, we can observe the western mountain ranges of the province, the vast Lake Toro, and, if the weather permits, a section of the Grey Glacier. After about an hour's drive, we will reach the final destination of the day, the Milodon Cave Natural Monument. This protected area is the second most visited site in the Magallanes region after Torres del Paine National Park. Our guide will provide detailed information about the site's historical significance, including ongoing archaeological and paleontological research. At the end of the visit, we will return to Puerto Natales, concluding the day with the satisfaction of having experienced a unique adventure in this corner of the world.
Important: This tour includes entry fees to Torres del Paine National Park, Milodon Cave, and shared transportation with a English Guide.
The difficulty level of this tour is medium level.
Optional: FD trekking excursion to the French Valley
From 06H00 we start the pick up in Puerto Natales and depart to the Pudeto sector to cross Lake Pehoé and continue to the French Valley along a clear path that runs along the north shore of Lake Pehoé. After a few minutes there is a slight ascent that allows you to leave the lake behind, and appreciate the Cuernos del Paine ahead (2,600 meters above sea level the highest). Then the trail becomes winding, and penetrates a flat area with little vegetation, due to the persistent wind. Then you cross an estuary on a wooden plank. It passes at the foot of Punta Bariloche (2,600 meters above sea level). After 30 minutes you reach Skottsberg Lake, known for the occasional eddies that the wind forms in its waters. The trail continues along the western shore of the lake, with a view of Paine Grande (3,050 m.) the southernmost "tresmil" in America, as well as a minor waterfall and some glaciers to the left. Several springs come from the slopes of the hills and cross the trail. You will continue your hike along the Skottsberg Lake to get an incomparable view of the Paine Grande massif, with the majesty of its ice. Continue towards the Italian camp with a spectacular setting, facing the Paine Grande and the French Glacier. From here you can continue towards the interior of the valley, one of the most beautiful corners of the entire park. The route into the interior of the French valley (the intermediate vertical line of the "W") begins at the Italian camp and after an hour and a half you will arrive at an open and windy place called Mirador (680 masl), from where the valley is dominated by a beautiful view. To the east you can see the mountains Hoja (2,200 m), Espada (2,500 m), and Fortaleza (2,681 m). Towards the south the lakes Nordenskjöld, Pehoé and Toro are visible. Then the trail returns to the shade of the forest and becomes less demanding. The trail continues in the shade of the trees along the same elevation, parallel to the French River. The notorious Shark's Fin Hill (1,717 m), so called because of its similar shape, is visible. The trail leaves the forest to an open area, which is a second privileged viewpoint. After concluding with the view of this wonderful panoramic view, you will return to the Paine Grande sector to board the boat that will take you back to the Pudeto sector and start the return to the city of Puerto Natales, arriving at the end of the day.
