It is an excursion in 4×4 along the coast of Lake Argentino. Ideal for the day of arrival or departure. It has an anthropological approach, making a tour at the time about the passing of man in these lands, rediscovering the stories of the first expeditions and daring that ventured into the unknown.
Between the cliffs and overlooking the Andes Mountains, the excursion focuses on the first encounters of the expeditionaries with the natives, then delving into the Tehuelche world. On the banks of the lake are caves where, thousands of years ago, that culture left marks on the rock, inviting us to interpret them today. Finally, the excursion culminates in another cave where lunch or dinner is provided, transporting us back to those remote years.
We dedicate this day to one of the World’s Natural Wonder: the Moreno glacier. This ice field- type glacier flows down from the Patagonian Icefield, a big sheet of ice spanning 22.000 square kilometers. It is the third largest glacier area in the world, after Antarctica (14 M sq km) and Greenland (1 M sq km). Because of unusual favorable local conditions, this glacier is the only one in the world that shows a closure and rupture process. The road leads to the very front of the glacier, which will be only meters away from your eyes. The roar of the chunks of ice falling inside the glacier or from the glacier into the lake, the frequent collapse of the front seracs into the turquoise water, makes this day a very special and unique experience.
Then we will go up to “Bajo de las Sombras” from where you will board the catamaran boat to navigate the Lago Rico where your will be able to appreciate the amazing ice wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier and its icebergs. Then we go back to our accommodation in El Calafate.

I had such an amazing time, and am so thankful for the experiences. The planning team did a great job booking excursions that were well known in the respective areas to experience, and the hotels were nice and centrally located. I was able to learn and see a lot, and they communicated with me frequently. HOWEVER: there was one little miscommunication. I thought that when I signed up for a solo trip that I would be a solo traveler in a group the whole trip, but it was indeed a solo trip (I met other people on some excursions, but not a travel group and was alone). It all worked out, and was actually wonderful, just know ahead of time because that was what I originally wanted.
The tour was amazing! I booked this tour but I also booked additional services in Buenos Aires, because I had tickets to see a Taylor Swift concert which was wordless. The tour company also helped coordinate transfers to the River stadium and everything went perfectly well. The tour is perfect for those like me that haven't many days for travelling.
My friends and I chose this tour because it visited all the destinations that we wanted to visit: Buenos Aires, Iguazu, Calafate and Ushuaia. It was great because it was the perfect mix between free time and to do the tours that are a must if it is your first time in Argentina. I was in Argentina before and this time I was able to visit the country in a different way with this tour operator. Thanks so much!
