Your journey begins in Moshi, where you’ll be transferred to the Machame Gate, the official trailhead. Over eight days, you’ll pass through a sequence of camps—New Shira, Barranco, Karanga, Barafu, and Crater—each offering unique perspectives and terrain. The Machame Route’s uneven paths and elevation shifts make it more demanding than some alternatives, but the reward is a deeply immersive trekking experience.

After summiting “the Roof of Africa,” enjoy a safe descent and a well-earned rest. The tour package includes accommodation in Moshi both before and after your climb, ensuring comfort and ease. day 1 - Moshi – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

We will pick you up from your accommodation in Moshi and drive you to Machame Gate, a comfortable, 45-minute drive from Moshi. Get registered by the national park authorities at the gate. Once all the formalities are over, you can start your trek through the national park's lush rainforest.

It takes around five to six hours to reach Machame Camp. Spend the night just above the tree line at 3,010 meters.

day 2 - Machame Camp – New Shira Camp

The trail today is somewhat steep but it’s is a shorter stretch and you should reach your destination by early afternoon. After some rest you have the option to hike further to Shira Camp Two for beautiful views of the Shira Plateau. Mount Meru, the second highest mountain in Tanzania, can be seen in the distance. Spend the night at New Shira Camp.

day 3 - New Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Today you will ascend about 700 meters to reach the striking and rugged Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp. This will give your body a good chance to acclimatize for the coming days as you will reach an altitude of over 4600 meters.

See the landscape change dramatically over the course of today's journey, from an Afro-alpine desert close to the tower to the lush green vegetation in the Barranco Valley. Barranco Camp, where you will stay tonight, is situated just below the imposing Barranco Wall and can be reached after about six to seven hours of trek.

This camp is considered by many to be the most beautiful and scenic on Kilimanjaro.

day 4 - Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Tackle the steepest part of this route, the famous Barranco Wall. It is not as difficult as it looks and your guide will make sure that you clear this hurdle in just a little more than an hour. Get the glimpse of the southern glaciers of Kibo from the top of the Barranco Wall and take some rest before continuing towards Karanga Camp.

After enjoying your lunch at the camp, you have the option to do a short hike to Barafu Camp.

day 5 - Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

The trail that you will take today passes through a striking alpine desert expanse and leads you to your final camp before the summit hike – Barafu Camp (4,640 m) – where you will reach after about four hours of hiking.

You will get some time to relax before the evening meal is served. We advise you to get as much sleep as possible after dinner before heading for the summit tomorrow.

day 6 - Barafu camp – Crater camp

Start the most challenging part of the ascent as the sun rises. You should reach Stella Point, the crater rim of Kibo, after about five to seven hours of strenuous climb that will take you past screes and trails strewn with volcanic ash. From Stella Point you will head for the highest camp on Kilimanjaro, Crater Camp, located at an altitude of 5730 m.

day 7 - Crater Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

The first sunlight marks the start of your final ascent towards the summit. It will be a slow and arduous two hours or so before you reach the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak, which towers 5895 metres above sea level.

See the surrounding summits, glaciers and landscapes from the peak. After a short break and mandatory summit pictures, return to Barafu Camp. Take some rest and enjoy a much-needed warm meal before continuing your descent to Mweka Camp (3080 m) which will take you about three hours.

day 8 - Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate - Moshi

Take part in a traditional farewell ceremony with your crew after breakfast before the final leg of your climb leads you back through lush rainforest. A gentle descent of around three hours and you reach Mweka Gate. We will then drive you back to your hotel in Moshi.

Why do I recommend Kilisa Tours & Safari

We were able to contact from the email to the personal WhatsApp-communication with Naick Shawn and I spent about 2 weeks in Tanzania, with arrangements made this local tour company who supplied our guide Bacari and Tammy Throughout the Mountain and Chris during our safari and everything was taken care off porters/cook. Our trip was spent climbing Kilimanjaro 8-Days via Machame Route while we got the chance to Spend a night at Crater Camp during descent and spent 5-Days visiting various animal parks and that include Lake Manyara, Siringet, Tarangire and Ngoro Ngoro but we also we had one day to tour around Moshi town before we departure. Were so happy we had a great experience. During our safari we saw more animals and beautiful scenery than we ever thought we would, everything was just thrilling. And during the climb, well ...It was challenging but worthy the experience besides I asked Bacari and he said All ages and all types climb and summit, so don't let that detour you from trying. Approach with common sense and respect the mountain [Fact] Lol Our tour organizers were attentive, friendly and extremely kind ever since we arrived everything was great and from the experience we had with it feels like its their priority to continue providing top-notch service to customers like you always which is I highly recommend you and you and you Besides they offer the best prices and the highest quality Briefly, everything was really great! I would love to thank the tour company team for their wonderful services. We just returned from a successful trip up Mt. Kilimanjaro with them. When I say successful, I mean awesome and superlative in every way. We were a group of 4 who booked our trip separately. We joined other climbers at the Park view Inn Hotel during a tour briefing and they also checked our climbing gear and they assisted us to hire a few items had forgotten to pack. The company went to all lengths to provide an amazing and safe climbing experience for us]. We trekked the Rongai route up to the summit and returned via the Marangu route - over the 7 days We were having 15 number of crew during the trek and that included i.e. 2 guides, 14 porters and 1 cook + waiter and honestly all of them went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable.and some of my best memories of the experience come from the crew that supported us all the way to the top. every morning began with a song and dance that energized us for the day ahead Our Guides were very knowledgeable and well informative about mountain Kilimanjaro and Also they were very good concerning first Aids [Our safety was their Top priority], while the rest of the crew was so helpful, encouraging and most of all friendly. They all have extremely hard jobs but they all do amazingly and appreciate everything! The entire journey was to my complete satisfaction. Everything was well organized and finally We made it!
