Arrive in Thailand's capital, the lively metropolis of Bangkok. The bustling street life of this energetic city is set to a backdrop of colourful, ornate shrines and modern glass-fronted high-rises. It's a place where old meets new at every corner. Sample the fresh and tasty street food, haggle in the non-stop markets and take a cruise out on Chao Phraya River to witness stunning sunsets. For those arriving on time today, your Tour Leader plans to meet you in the hotel reception at 6pm for the welcome meeting and to take us on a tour of Bangkok's street food. We'll weave our way through the bustling stalls of Chinatown while our Tour Leader fills us in on the area's backstory, helping us make sense of the wild and colourful sights around us. If you're feeling peckish, there's plenty of street food to sample along the way before we settle into a local restaurant for our first taste of Thai cuisine. If you would like to receive a complimentary airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), which is a one-hour drive from our hotel. Please note that if you wish to join the street food tour of Chinatown today, you must arrive at the hotel by 6pm. If you are booking your own flights, we recommend giving yourself at least one hour to clear the airport. From the airport to the hotel is around a one hour drive, so therefore the latest your flight can arrive is 3pm.

We did the Thailand West tour in Feb/Mar 2026. Our guide Mohr was amazing with his knowledge, patience and sense of humour! Mohr always went above and beyond to ensure everyone’s needs were met and everyone was happy. This tour allowed me to get a sense of where I would love to go back and spend more time. The itinerary and optional tours were great overall, but I would make a couple changes to improve the experience. For example, I wouldn’t choose China Town as the main focal point or place for hotel in Bangkok. Staying closer to Khaosan Road would have been more ideal and within walking distance to the Grand Palace. I’ve also heard there are many other great experiences in Bangkok such as the floating market. Because we really only toured China Town and the Palace, I didn’t really enjoy Bangkok. The optional tours of boating down the Klongs, seeing the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Reclining Buddha were phenomenal though! The Krit Raft House on the River Kwai was an amazing and unique experience! We had a lot of fun at this location! There was a hiccup with accommodation at one point where we ended up staying in Hua Hin instead of the Tania Sri Resort Pran Buri. Nobody on the tour was aware of this change (the accommodation was fantastic regardless), so more communication from Explore would have been good as there was a lot of confusion. Loved the unique accommodations at Khaosok Boutique Hideaway and the optional boat excursion on Cheow Lan Lake (a must do)! Koh Lanta was beautiful and the accommodation was amazing! We did the optional island tour here where we got to swim through Emerald Cave! It was absolutely breathtaking! We ended in Krabi which I also really loved. Their night markets are great and we found ourselves at a really fun bar called Boogie Bar. After the official tour ended, some of us opted to do the Phi Phi Islands tour which included the stunning Maya Bay. There was so much to see and do, I felt sometimes the tour was a bit rushed and there was quite a bit of travel time involved. There were times I had wished we could stay longer than a night or two as it felt there was so much more to explore. Overall, this was an excellent tour, mostly because of the amazing guide we had (I would request Mohr if I were to do another one), and the great group of people who joined the tour!
