The USP? The rare opportunity to experience Romania’s legendary hospitality, storied history, and natural beauty—all from the unique vantage point of two wheels.
We thoroughly enjoyed our cycling holiday in Romania. The tour was fully in line with the sales pitch on the Explore website. We really got to discover the country: sleepy rural villages, to historic fortified town, sweeping landscapes, rugged mountains. Our guide, Raz, was full of knowledge about history, culture, religion and nature, and throughout the trip helped us to pull together a rich insight into the country of Romania. The cycling was good fun. The accomodation was comfortable (the odd dog barking at night, but given that we were in the countryside to be expected).
Very interesting and varied tour, scenery and towns visited were fabulous. Both Raz and Geo, the guides, were extremely personable, knowledgeable and helpful. Maybe an extra day or two of cycling would have been nice as you just wanted it to keep going :)
A great way to visit and experience wonderful Romania! The tour team - Elena, Lisa and Geo - were exceptional, ensuring the entire trip went smoothly, everyone had exactly what they needed to enjoy the experience and got the most out of the week. It was great to have tour leaders who were so knowledgeable about history, culture, geography, who were passionate about guiding and sharing their love of Romania and cycling, and had very good English, as well as being fun to travel with. The scenery was wonderful and the route ensured that each day we saw something special, as well as being away from traffic and able to really appreciate the countryside, and villages and towns. I would highly recommend this tour.
I've taken many cycling trips and found this one to be one of the least exciting in terms of the daytime itinerary and options for evening activities. There was too much downtime because we arrived at our destinations quite early when we could have made more stops in the small villages along the way. Also, the landscape wasn't that impressive for the majority of the time and there was no interaction with locals.
Tour leader and support staff were exceptional. Really positive, enthusiastic and helpful. Great way to glimpse rural aspects of Romania. Route had plenty of interesting stop offs and walkrounds. Good mix of off road and on road tracks. Could have done with a bit more shade on some of the longer rides but it was August! Accommodation was excellent.
Excellent tour with just the right amount of cycling and sightseeing Raz was really informative and helpful
The cycling holiday was absolutely outstanding, the guide and his assistant were brilliant couldn’t do enough for you. The accommodations were okay, just one small issue. No kettle in some of the accommodation, would have been nice to have a tea or coffee just to help chill. But overall a beautiful way to spend a holiday and in a beautiful country Romania.
Overall excellent holiday. We knew some of the accommodation would be a bit more basic than explore’s normal but the majority were of reasonable standard and the family owned ones particularly helpful. Main downside was the guesthouse near Agnita. Unfinished room, air conditioning that made a noise but didn’t cool the room, and a school prom/ private party that went on till 4am with exceptionally loud music. Sadly that will be one of the main memories of the holiday and reason for our accommodation rating of 3. Otherwise it would have been 4. Hotel Bulevard in Sighisoara was lovely and worth a 5.
Fantastic trip with great guides
A real adventure, trip of a lifetime. Toured around some wonderful nature, mountains, prairies, rivers, plus some exceptional historic sixties along the way like castles and monasteries.
Great week, first class guide & support, beautiful country, interesting history.
Apologies this is a little late ! To have Raz as our Leader , made the Holiday , he seemed to work 24/7 to make everything so memorable for us ! Raz was supportive , always put safety first , so knowledgeable about his country’s history . Always so happy to sort any problems with the bikes . A Great Team player & always cheerful ( not sure he managed to get adequate sleep ) ! Raz & Jo made the most perfect team & together these guys made our Holiday so special ! Thank you
Romania surprised me in many good ways, sufficient infrastructures, kind people and beautiful landscapes, and what can be better than experiencing all these on two wheels! Speaking of the crew, Raz and Geo, what a dream team! They led us to the most enjoyable itinerary and kept everyone safe and sound. They had done an up and beyond job accommodating everyone’s needs, at all time, and that’s not a small thing given 11 of us with wide range of fitness and physical capability. Highly recommend people come to see Romania and do it on two wheels.
