This is a tough week (and I've done Kilimanjaro/TMB/Toubkal). Don't underestimate it. Someone told me that in Romania the trails just go straight up - no zigzags and they really do! The ascents one the first two days are quite technical scrambles /climbs and the descents are absolutely knee-wrecking. So be ready for that and you'll have a fabulous time!
An interesting tour, covering both the expected (the Dracula et al) and other less popular but interesting sites. Our leader was very knowledgeable too, with a good recall of important historical dates and people. Only negative was a bus with not so much leg room, especially for the 6 footers.
Beautiful trip with knowledgeable guide. Walking over the first saddle with the cows and the ringing bells was very very special. The views from the Ridgeline were absolutely gorgeous, as was the gorge. Parts felt a bit rushed, especially the Bucharest time but understandable with the larger group in busy places. It's well worth having a couple of extra days in Bucharest to experience the city. Overall an amazing trip. Lots of delicious food, and fantastic with catering for gluten free across the whole trip! The Guide was fantastic for communicating with the locals, organizing everything and ensuring tips were taken care of. Fantastic to have so much additional information for all of the places we visited as well as for the walks themselves.
We thoroughly enjoyed our cycling holiday in Romania. The tour was fully in line with the sales pitch on the Explore website. We really got to discover the country: sleepy rural villages, to historic fortified town, sweeping landscapes, rugged mountains. Our guide, Raz, was full of knowledge about history, culture, religion and nature, and throughout the trip helped us to pull together a rich insight into the country of Romania. The cycling was good fun. The accomodation was comfortable (the odd dog barking at night, but given that we were in the countryside to be expected).
Explore organise and run their trips extremely well. The itinerary is used regularly and the guides are very knowledgeable. The trek was as described although I made the length longer with my recordings and the hours of hiking longer each day but we were a big group so we stopped often enough route. We have had Explore before and would travel with them again
Itinerary on the whole was excellent, in particular loved the boat trip on the Danube, excursion to Novi Sad and the Rila Monastery. There were however a few occasions, notably Corvin Castle and to a lesser degree, the Rila Monastery, where I would have loved more time. Possibly on those days, an earlier start might have been beneficial. Also not seeing the inside of Peles Castle was a huge disappointment. Effort needs to be put in, to ensure the problems getting tickets are not repeated for future travellers. Tudor our tour guide, however was amazing, very knowledgeable, couldn't have asked for better.
