Itinerary
Take your time to savor England’s most iconic footpath with the 'Coast to Coast Guided Explorer – 17 Days' tour. This extended guided walking trip stretches from St Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea, offering two extra days compared to the classic itinerary for a more in-depth experience.
Traverse the famed Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and North York Moors national parks, clocking in at approximately 315km (195 miles) of moderate to challenging hiking. The extra days allow for a gentler pace and more opportunities to explore quaint villages, rolling hills, and the mystical Nine Standards Rig. Enjoy the camaraderie of a small group, led by a knowledgeable guide, and relax each night in welcoming hotels, guesthouses, and traditional pubs.
Along the way, you’ll marvel at the diversity of the English countryside, from rugged mountains and serene lakes to dry stone walls and vibrant market towns. Celebrate your achievement on the shores of the North Sea with your fellow walkers—a moment you’ll cherish.
The unique selling point of this trip is its leisurely, immersive approach—perfect for travelers who want to fully absorb the landscapes, history, and local character of England’s legendary Coast to Coast walk.
day 1Arrive St Bees
Make your own way to the starting point of the Coast to Coast walk in St Bees. It's located on the edge of the Irish Sea with views across to the Isle of Man (where we offer a walk as well). If you have time, visit the Abbey church, which has features on the local history and has a display on a mummified knight that was discovered in a lead coffin from the graveyard. If you have an extra night here, you can walk the coastal path or quiet inland roads to the attractive town of Whitehaven with its marina and great museum. It is famous in the annals of the US navy as the site of an elaborate raid on the British mainland by one John Paul Jones during the American War of Independence. This evening you will meet your fellow walkers and guide for a trip briefing.

Great group of people from multiple countries, a wonderful guide who always went the extra mile to make sure we got everything we needed and wanted, beautiful scenery and a challenging hike. What more could you want?
Spectacular, beginning to end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this trip, it was everything I expected, challenging especially in the wet and the big days, great scenery, great company, and an excellent guide who also had a great sense of humour. I certainly would recommend it to anyone wanting to do it and am very pleased that it was guided as it don’t think I would have ever found my way on an unguided.
This was our first trip with them and we very much enjoyed the holiday. It was well planned and Daryl, our guide was excellent. He was patient and helpful.
I wish I could start this again tomorrow! The Coast-to-Coast is justly famous for the diversity and beauty of the landscapes it encompasses. The accommodations and food were all great, but it was the scenery, the camaraderie, and our wonderful guide that made the trip so special.
