Explore the labyrinth of channels and lakes in the Danube Delta aboard a floating hotel
Step into a world of legends and living traditions with the "Best of Romania and the Danube Delta" tour, a 12-day journey that uncovers the soul of Eastern Europe. This easy-paced trip is designed for experienced travelers eager to explore remote villages, medieval towns, and the wild beauty of the Danube Delta.
Begin in Bucharest, then roam through the heart of Transylvania, where you’ll visit the storied Bran Castle—often linked to Dracula lore—and trek the Transylvanian Alps, with their breathtaking vistas. Discover Maramures, home to painted monasteries and the whimsical Merry Cemetery, where local artistry and poetry shine.
A highlight of this trip is a ride through the Vasar Valley on a historic steam train, a nostalgic journey through forested landscapes. Cap off your adventure with a cruise along the pristine waters of the Danube Delta, a haven for birdlife and tranquil reflection.
The unique selling point of this tour package is its blend of cultural depth and natural splendor, with special access to less-visited sites and authentic local experiences. For those seeking a meaningful exploration of Romania’s rich heritage and enchanting wilderness, this tour offers a captivating and comfortable way to see it all.
An interesting tour, covering both the expected (the Dracula et al) and other less popular but interesting sites. Our leader was very knowledgeable too, with a good recall of important historical dates and people. Only negative was a bus with not so much leg room, especially for the 6 footers.
A really enjoyable introduction to Romania and nice overview of the country, which has given me a much better appreciation of the culture, history and landscapes. We enjoyed a good mix of activities, mostly outside the main touristy areas, including walking, visiting monasteries, medieval cities, mountains, a ride on a wood-fired steam forest train and the Danube Delta - which was the biggest highlight for me. Plenty of birdlife to see, even outside of the peak season and a nice relaxing couple of days near the end of the trip. The guide was efficient but often seemed impatient with questions. Excellent, friendly driver. However, the minibus was cramped and uncomfortable to travel in, especially during the long drives - be prepared for a few of them - and we didn't have a full group; that was the only downside for me.
A busy and enjoyable diverse itinerary. A good balance of activities with special dietary requirements well catered on the whole. Minibus was somewhat uncomfortable for travel with legroom worse than Ryanair. That's really my only gripe.
A very enjoyable trip around Romania which covered a good variety of places and experiences. A mix of culture and activity. There are some stunning sights. The painted monasteries were for me one of the highlights.. Walking in the mountains with spectacular views. Birdwatching on the delta. All excellent. A great group of people and an excellent guide, Horea, and driver, Stephan. The trip exceeded my expectations and I now have a far greater appreciation of Romania’s culture, history and landscapes.
Wonderful painted monasteries Enjoyable boat on Danube Delta Experienced Romanian guide
This trip was exactly as described - the best of Romania. Our experience was much enhanced by the personality and expertise of our tour leader.
This holiday was a whirlwind tour of the country, so need to be prepared for a lot of driving with quick toilet stops. After a 16km hike, feeling hot and tired, we immediately toured a church, had an hour drive, then toured another church, then arrived at our hotel at dinnertime. The guide was efficient and knowledgeable of history and geography, but not always sociable and often impatient with questions which was rather intimidating. Excellent, friendly driver. The Danube Delta part was superb.
i would have liked fewer 1 night stays and more 2 night stays, with a little less driving time. the hotels and meals were great and the boat on the Danube Delta was especially relaxing and enjoyable.
