The unique aspect of this tour is its balance of adventure and comfort, seamlessly connecting the idyllic beaches of Zanzibar with the legendary wildlife of the Serengeti.
day 1 - Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar Island, Stone Town
We start our tour early to catch the ferry to Zanzibar. We travel across the channel and on to Stone Town - the capital of Zanzibar. Once weve settled into our accommodation we have the rest of the day free to head out and explore! Walk the winding alleyways and old cobbled streets in search of local market wares and souvenirs or find a local restaurant with a rooftop and view to admire while sipping a delicious fruit cocktail. Stone Town has a mix of the old Arabic and new modern influences making for an eclectic and vibrant experience.
day 2-4 - Zanzibar
This morning we travel to the northern part of the island stopping off along the way for those who wish to enjoy an optional tour of the spice and fruit plantations. See where a pineapple grows or how to scoot up a coconut palm! Once we settle into our beach accommodation theres nothing left to do but relax, and enjoy the fabulous beach activities. Take a Dhow boat out on a sunset cruise or book a scuba dive or snorkel trip to a local reef or atoll. With its powdery white beaches, azure water and colourful coral reefs, Nungwi is the perfect spot to kick back and relax during our stay on Zanzibar.
day 5 - Zanzibar Island, Nungwi to Bagamoyo
After a brief stop off in Stone Town to enjoy some last minute shopping and catch our last glimpses of the coral fort, we head back to our Acacia vehicle on the mainland and onward to Bagamoyo.
day 6 - Bagamoyo to Marangu
Leaving Bagamoyo we make our way north past the Eastern Arc Mountain Range to Marangu at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro. If the weather is clear today we will be lucky enough to get a view of the snow capped Kilimanjaro.
day 7 - Marangu to Arusha
Today we make our to Arusha, situated exactly in the middle between Cairo and Cape Town. The town is the safari capital of Tanzania, and is surrounded by local coffee plantations. This afternoon we take a walk to one of the local Maasai village as well as a Maasai museum, local school and clinic.
day 8 - Arusha to Serengeti National Park
This morning we make our way to Serengeti National Park, driving west across the Great Rift Valley. Having left our Acacia vehicle behind in Arusha and transferred into 4x4 safari vehicles we game drive through the Serengeti plains to our camp for the night.Drive along the famed plains of the Serengeti in search of the resident wildlife, and in particular the predators this park has become so famous for. We explore this afternoon as we make our way to the central part of the Serengeti where we spend the night in an open safari camp tents bedding provided.
day 9 - Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
This morning we rise with the sun and head out to discover which animals have been lurking about the camp overnight. After breakfast, we leave the plains and we ascend the outer wall of the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater is Africas largest intact caldera and World Heritage Site. We spend the night camping on the craters rim, remember to bring as jacket as it can get cold at this altitude.
day 10 - Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
Waking early this morning we descend the Ngorongoro Crater dirt road to game drive and search for the wildlife that can be found here. With a relatively small range, there is abundant wildlife in the Crater with predators such as leopard, cheetah and lion present. Keep an eye out for the massive buffalo herds and the packs of hyena wallowing in the mud pools. After lunch we make our way back to Arusha where we meet back up with our Acacia vehicle for our last night.
