We hiked The Alpine Pass Route in Switzerland, and it was wonderful. It was more beautiful than anything I could have imagined. Everything worked out perfectly.
Good organisation. The guide, Elie, translated everything in English for me as I was the only non-French in the group. He also prepared delicious meals everyday. Walking pace was good for all the group. Night stays had everything essential and the dinner and breakfasts were also good. Overall, a truly "rustique" adventure in the Swiss Alps, in contact with nature and the mountain.

Loved everywhere we visited. Would have loved to spend the night in Innterlaken in order to take advantage of a few of the many activities that were available there.

The last section of the Swiss Via Francigena, the Camino route from Canterbury to Rome, from Lake Geneva, through the valleys of the Valais to the Great St Bernard Pass. From Canterbury in England to Rome in Italy, the 1900km "Francigena Way" dates back to the 11th century when pilgrims travelled across Europe on foot to visit the site of Martyrdom of St Peter and St Paul in Rome. With the modernisation of Europe and the shifting of borders the route became obsolete, until a recent revival of the pilgrimage making it one of the most exciting pilgrimage trails in Europe today. The last stage in Switzerland begins on Lake Geneva, takes in the UNESCO-listed vineyards of Lavaux, the Rhone Valley and finally crosses the magnificent Swiss Alps leading to the historical Great St Bernard Pass. This section of the Francigena pilgrimage route will wow you with its spectacular views, delicious local cuisine and fascinating history.
Note: Due to the weather and altitude this walk is only possible during the summer months.

Overall excellent trip. Weather helped as was excellent. Able to walk all high passes and enjoy fantastic views. Accommodation was basic but OK, food overall was good. Never went hungry. Plenty of opportunity to stop and take photos, never felt rushed.

Such a beautiful part of the world. Loved the hiking. Some of the days had to be altered because of late snow and impassable trials, but this was done with good thought and still lovely and interesting. Although it was disappointing, we understood that when you are in the mountains you just have to go with the flow - especially as we were hiking on the first week of the season.
The accommodation was varied - some stunning places mixed with classic rustic mountain huts but the combination was really nice. All the meals were lovely with a couple of real stand outs.
Would recommend as a quieter route compared to tour of Mont Blanc
