Kanchenjunga South Base Camp With regards to the mountains themselves, in addition to the main peak of Kanchenjunga, there are four subsidiary summits exceeding 8,000m, the most important being Kanchenjunga West, also known as Yalung Kang (8,505m). Also found in this area are approximately twenty peaks exceeding 7,000m, the highest being Kambachen (7,903m), Janu (7,710m), Jongsong (7,483m), Kabru (7,353m), Tent Peak (7,365m) and the Twins (7,350m). In addition there are numerous peaks over 6,000m. Amongst this impressive cluster of peaks are five major glacial systems. Of these, Zumu, Talung and Rathong flow into Sikkim while to the west, the Kanchenjunga and Yalung glaciers flow into the mighty Tamor River of Nepal.
This just adds to the fact trekking in Kanchenjunga is an unforgettable experience where trekkers get right into the heart of the remote, less trekked, Himalaya mountains and valleys. Join us on 24-day trek that takes on a journey to the foothills of one of the tallest mountains on earth. Geographically located on the eastern border of Nepal, Kangchenjunga stands at the height of 8,585 meters above sea level and is renowned as the third highest mountain in the world. Spiritually, it is believed to be the abode of the gods who bestow prosperity upon mankind.
Starting with a pickup on arrival in Kathmandu, you will travel by air and land to Mithung, the starting point of the trek. From there you will trek through terraced fields, forests and steep hills to reach Khambachen (4099 m), where you will spend a day acclimatizing.
Your journey from Khambachen takes you past the moraines of the Kanchenjunga Glacier to reach Lhonak (4785 m) on Day 13. Enjoy magnificent views of Mount Kangchenjunga and 15 other peaks in the Himalayas from Pang Pema, located at an altitude of 5160 m.
The sixteenth day of this trek involves crossing the passes of Sinion La (4460 m), Mirgin La (4480 m) and Sinelapcha La (4646 m). Reach Oktang Base Camp the next day. Time to return to Kathmandu and prepare for departure. Continue your journey downhill to Medibung and drive to Ilam. Catch the flight to Kathmandu either from Bhadrapur or Biratnagar.
