This is an absolutely incredible tour -- our guide Jason was both very informative and very helpful. He explained the history of the Arenal volcano to us, we took a short hike a small part of the way up the mountain, and then went back down to look at wildlife in the rainforest. We saw spider monkeys, which Jason said are a pretty rare sight, and then a red curacao just walked out onto the trail in front of us! It was an incredible feeling to just be seeing all these animals spontaneously on a nature hike.
Speaking of hikes, it is important to be aware that this tour is somewhat physically demanding. There are no extreme parts, just some strenuous walking over very uneven ground, but I think the tour description could do a better job of emphasizing the challenge. At the same time, the tour is extremely convenient in terms of picking you up and dropping you off at your desired location, whether a hotel, hot springs, or somewhere else. Overall, I strongly recommend the Arenal Volcano trip to anyone who is into volcanoes and wildlife and plans to visit the Arenal area.

Combination Tour: La Fortuna in one Day

This combination tour is perfect for visitors to La Fortuna who want to do it all but have limited time. With this one-day tour, you can visit the most important attractions in the area.
The incredible Arenal Volcano is not to be missed, so we start the adventure at the Arenal Volcano National Park to hike a 4 km (2.5 miles) trail called “Lava Slides of 1992” which will take us as close to the mighty Arenal as possible, without risking your safety. From there, if the skies are clear, the views of Arenal Lake, the forest, and the areas devastated by previous eruptions will be impressive.
At around 11:30, we will arrive at the second place of interest, La Fortuna Waterfall, famous for its height of 70 meters (230 feet). There you can take a refreshing swim in the cool waters or take pictures of its beauty. Afterwards, at around 1:00 pm we will stop at a restaurant near downtown La Fortuna for a delicious a la carte lunch with 5 options to choose from.
Later, at 2:30 pm, we will head to the Arenal Hanging Bridges, to hike a 3.1 km (1.92 miles) trail circuit high above the tree canopy, and across a circuit of 15 impressive hanging and stationary bridges trying to spot the local wildlife.
At the end of this full-day tour, we’ll drive you back to your hotel.

Arenal Volcano National Park & Arenal Lake
There is no greater attraction in the Northern region of Costa Rica than the Arenal Volcano. So why not enjoy it in the most picturesque way possible? This tour combines an attractive boat ride on Arenal Lake followed by a hike through the national park where the volcano is located and provides you with impressive views of this natural wonder.
The tour begins with a short, 20-minute ride to the peninsula sector of Arenal Volcano National Park near Arenal Lake. Walk around 1.5km (nearly 1 mile) through a trail in the national park.
During the whole trip, you will be able to enjoy excellent views of Arenal Lake and the Tilaran Volcanic Mountains from different observation bays that are along the trail. At the end of the trail, you will have the opportunity to climb to an observation platform approximately 10m high to take a closer look at the volcano. Learn more about the history, activities and geological formation of this colossal natural wonder.
Enjoy a fresh, tropical fruit buffet lunch at the end of your trail before taking a boat for a ride along the edges of Arenal Lake. See the surrounding rainforest, islands, aquatic birds and animals that call this area their home. This is the best possible place to take incredible pictures of the Arenal Volcano, if the weather permits. After 45 minutes on the boat, head for the lake's boat station.

Everything was booked ahead of time, we didn't have to worry about hotels, transportation, or food (as some in our party were vegetarian)! Mario answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable about everything Costa Rica. While driving to our excursions, Mario went above and beyond by pointing out toucans that flew in front of us as well as stopping to observe the howler monkeys, buffalos, and pineapple crops. Mario also helped us customize our trip by adding an extra day to our tour. At the end of our trip, Mario gifted us some local coffee and key chains as well!We went to Costa Rica June 2021 and were very impressed with the country's covid regulations (we had to wear masks and wash our hands before entering any establishment) which made us feel very safe.Overall, we would recommend Greenway Tours to anyone and happily book with them in the future. My trip was wonderful -- I can't say enough good things about Mario and his team! I was travelling solo, and they worked with me to customize the itinerary to be exactly what I needed alongside a work trip I had right before. All of the guides and other staff members were very professional, kind, and prepared. Pickups were on time, and even mundane drives were filled with interesting information and good conversation.
Special shoutout to Alberto, who took me to Tortuguero and was so knowledgeable about wildlife (and whose keen eyes spotted some spider monkeys on the drive home, enabling us to stop and see them and some howler monkeys). A true highlight! But everyone was wonderful -- definitely recommend.

We loved the La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Sarapiqui River tour! La Paz is beyond beautiful with orchids, hummingbirds, frogs, toucans, scarlet macaws, parrots, coatis, sloths, ocelots, margays, and a jaguar. The gardens and waterfalls are exquisite. A wonderful buffet lunch was included.
Our trip down the Sarapiqui River in a covered boat was so much fun! We saw two caimans, iguanas, Anhingas, swallows, butterflies, and five troops of Mantled Howler monkeys.
Oscar and Armando, our guide and driver were so kind and taught us so much. We stopped at a lovely coffee finca to see the beans ripening, a sopa (local restaurant) in the mountains to take in spectacular waterfall and hummingbird views, we watched whitewater rafters, and sampled fresh pineapple at a farmstand.
Oscar and Armando treated us like family and made our first day in Costa Rica amazing!
