What an experience! The 3 High Passes/EBC Trek is a must do, the scenery is absolutely stunning!!! I definitely do not regret to had choose this local tour operator for this trip. The bond with my guide ''Keshar'' was top, he really knows the mountains and definitely became a new friend along the way. Raj the owner was also super efficient helping me and answering all my questions really fast and super friendly too. I guarantee you guys that you will see me again for the Mera Peak sometime soon!! Thank you! Pascal
I chose a local tour agency when it came to booking my EBC + High passes trek in April 2021and boy am I glad I did that!! In summary, they have more than earned my highest recommendation.Raj, the coordinator, was incredibly accommodating from the beginning and closely worked with my schedule and ever-changing COVID guidelines to help book my trip. I only had 9 days off from work, and was comfortable with my training, but the shortest trip offered by any other tour operator was over 12 days. However, with Raj, he created an individualized itinerary for me and assigned me a fit guide/porter duo to set me up for success. He even personally picked me up from the airport and dropped me off after I completed my trek. My flight to Lukla got cancelled due to the poor weather, and Raj diligently worked with me to organize a Jeep to Phaphlu and a private helicopter to Lukla the very next morning due to my already annotated trip.My guide, Bisho, was enthusiastic, friendly, and was proficient in English. He did everything in his power to ensure I was able to accomplish my goal of completing the EBC+High pass trek in 8 days; and simultaneously, have an enjoyable and memorable trip. He ensured he pointed out all the notable peaks during our week of clear skies, as well as the history and significance of Sherpa culture and Buddhist traditions. Although I pre-medicated with Diamox, I felt some signs of altitude sickness one evening in Lobuche due to our lack of acclimatization days. On that evening, Bisho played cards with me, offered to give me a head massage, and sang a beautiful Nepalese song. He was up-beat, thoughtful, and calm throughout the tripif you have the option to choose a guide, I would strongly recommend you ask for Bisho as he will not disappoint! My porter, Jit, was similarly wonderful and ensured he kept up with our ambitious pace. He acted as an assistant guide and helped out with ordering meals and ensured that I was well-taken care of. In summary, the operator was an absolute gem amongst the 100s of tour coordinators offering the EBC +/- high passes trek. They have earned my highest recommendation, and I would highly recommend them to my family and friends!
Doing the 3 high passes without porter is definitely challenging but the reward is there at every moment. Every time you reach a pass, you have a breathtaking view which can only be offered by Nepali landscapes.
This trip will challenge you in so many ways but the rewards are worth it. In my opinion, this is the perfect trip because you still get a taste of the regular EBC route along with the comforts that are on that route, but you also branch off and get to experience a much less beaten path within Nepal. The passes also do a great job of preparing you for the ultimate challenge....Island Peak. As for Island Peak, I promise you'll look back on the experience and think, "wow...I really did that". Having seen the three pass route and parts of the regular EBC route, I recommend this trip for anyone wanting a more remote and challenging experience, helping to prepare for a 6000m summit.
The Three Passes Trek is the ultimate tour of the Everest region. It was my first trek at altitude, and I was a little concerned about attempting this route, but I am so happy I did it. The Three Passes Trek takes you off the beaten path (read crowded trail) of the straight up and down EBC route, and provides all of the highlights of the region, both in terms of stunning mountain views and the local culture. We completed our clockwise circuit (Renjo Pass, Cho La Pass, and Kongma La Pass) in 17 days, and probably could have accomplished everything in about 15 days, however it was important to have some buffer space to acclimatize and rest. Be prepared for cold weather and snow - we had about a foot of fresh snow going over the Cho La Pass, which created a beautiful scenery along with an extra hard push to the top. Also, expect to spend time in Lukla after your trek is done as flight delays are the norm. It is definitely a much more challenging route, but the rewards are absolutely worth the effort!
I recently completed the Three High Passes trek with Dukpa Tamang. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering coming to Nepal for a trek. I couldn't have been happier with my guide for the two-week trek, Dukpa. Dukpa is a ton of fun and a total machine (never gets cold, tired, hungry). He made a genuine effort to make sure I had everything I needed while we trekked together and I had such a great time with him over the two weeks. Safety was his biggest focus and he made sure that I avoided making common mistakes that other trekkers ended up making along the way(and thus, having to end their trips early). We had a lot of time together and Dukpa made even the most challenging parts of the trip (there were a lot) fun and entertaining! Dukpa knows a TON about the Three Passes trek which was nice to have not only for questions but for route planning (this is not a paved road from place to place...important to have someone experienced like Dukpa as the routes change from month-to-month/year-to-year).
