The weather in Denmark is similar to the weather across Europe with warm spring and summer, and a bitterly cold winter. However, Denmark has something unique to offer in every season, including the amazing hygge (literally translated into cozy), where they get together in a warm room, with some alcohol and amazing food!

1. May to June – Spring / Good Season

Spring is a perfect season to visit Denmark for a number of reasons. This is a good time to travel to Denmark if you want to enjoy perfectly blue skies, long days, good weather conditions, and very little crowds. This is not the peak season, so you don’t have to worry about an abundance of tourists either. A lot of the places will be opening right after the winter closure, so you will definitely get to enjoy some discounts on accommodations and tourist activities.

• Season: Spring
• Highlights: The weather is close to perfect for some outdoor activities. You should definitely rent out a bike and ride through the famous Danish roads. If you want to explore Copenhagen, this is a great season to do so – the room prices will be at their most reasonable, and you can enjoy at Tivoli Gardens that will be opening after a 3 months break! The country will be celebrating its Independence Day on June 5, so you have an excuse to party. You can also join in on a huge rave festival called Distortion held every June. Other areas that are perfect for visiting during this season include Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse, or the Lillebaelt Bridge.

2. June to August – Summer / High Season

There are a lot of benefits of traveling in Denmark during this season. The days will be incredibly long, so you can get the most out of your day, the weather will be mildly warm, making it perfect for outdoor activities. A lot of Danish people go camping during these months, so that can be a unique experience for you. This is the holiday season for the Danes as well, so if you want to avoid the crowds, head inwards towards the mainland, as most Danish tourists would head towards the lakes and the coast. Make sure you book your tickets and accommodation well in advance, so as to not lose your spot!

• Season: Summer
• Highlights: This is the season of music festivals all across Denmark – especially the Roskilde Music Festival that attracts hundreds of international artists. You can also go to Aalborg and listen to the singing trees (the trees are like radios – you press a button, and they play music). Copenhagen will get slightly deserted, since a lot of the locals will be out vacationing. However, there will be a number of other festivals here, including Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Pride, or the Strom Festival as well.

3. September to October – Fall / Good Season

The autumn weather will still be pleasant, but the weather starts getting rather cold, with some scattered showers throughout the country. You will definitely need a thick coat or some sweaters to keep you going during these months. The prices of accommodation and tickets will be much cheaper during this month, compared to the summer high.

• Season: Fall
• Highlights: If you want to go to Legoland in Billund, this is a good season to visit, as the crowds will be manageable. This is also a great time to visit the Wadden Sea National Park, where you’ll be able to see millions of migratory birds make their journey, and also see a number of seals in their breeding colonies. If you’re in Copenhagen, make sure to visit the Copenhagen Blues Festival in September or the Copenhagen Night of Culture in October.

4. November to April – Winter / Low Season

The weather in Denmark will get quite cold during winter, and you will definitely need multiple layers of warm clothes to keep you going. Many places shut down for the winter – especially places that are off the road – like Aalborg, Odense, etc. Unless you stick to the major cities, you will not be able to enjoy much in the way of tourism.

• Highlights: The biggest highlight of this season is Christmas time. The streets get all decked up, and the entire country comes alive.
