How many days to spend in Denmark?

Spending a week in Denmark works out perfectly for those wanting to hit all the highlights of its capital and some other destinations outside of it. Three to four days is enough to explore Copenhagen, including Freetown Christiania, the Nyhavn harbor and nearby attractions such as Helsingor and Roskilde. In a week’s time, you can also head off to Jutland, spend a night in a fishing village like Dragør and soak in the authentic hygge atmosphere. If you are wondering how long to stay in Denmark then a 7-day trip is the recommended answer, wherein you can also squeeze in a day’s trip to Malmö in Sweden.

The port town of Helsingor in Denmark is also known as Elsinore

A Denmark itinerary for 5 days doesn’t mean you will be limited to one city. Landing in Copenhagen, jumpstart things with city explorations, ticking off iconic landmarks like the colorful Nyhavn Harborfront, the famous Little Mermaid statue, the royal Amalienborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle, among others. Photograph the city from the Nyhavn Canals during an evening dinner cruise, or learn the art of Danish pastry-making during hands-on workshops. For an oceanic fix, Helsingør is 50 minutes from Copenhagen, or head down to the astounding white-chalk cliffs of Møns Klint.

Moving away from Zealand, travel over the Baltic Sea into Jutland terrains via train, where Aarhus’ Den Gamle By (Old Town) is a living history museum and feels as if you’re back in the 19th century. Or during your 5-day trip in Denmark, journey south to fairytale Fyn Island (also known as Funen) on the train; the birthplace of author Hans Christian Andersen.
