Arrangements were all in order and hotel /restaurant choices were excellent and as described. The app works well (with the minor caveat that the details of the map disappear when you zoom in too close and when you go off track). We loved our walk on Costa Brava, because we could just focus on walking a truly gorgeous coast without any logistical worry.

A beautiful blend of history, scenery, and incredible food

I absolutely loved this trip! The cycling was perfect: around 90% on dedicated bike paths, with very little time spent on roads, which made it feel relaxed and safe the whole way through. Every day brought something different: charming medieval villages, peaceful countryside, and powerful reminders of history along the D-Day beaches. The food was a real highlight — from fresh seafood on the coast to delicious local cheeses and pastries, every meal felt like a reward after a day in the saddle. Mont-Saint-Michel and Saint-Malo were just as magical as I’d imagined. . Overall, this was a wonderful balance of gentle cycling, culture, and great food — the perfect way to experience northern France!

The cycling was graded as "easy" and I was pleased that was indeed the case as I had never done a cycling holiday with Explore before. The group of 16 looked rather daunting at first, but we all got on really well together and had good fun, especially all mucking in to make an unexpected barbecue in the grounds of our accommodation. The accommodation was appropriate for the places and areas where we were, and the tour leader organised everything well to see the most interesting places, have good meals and a wine-tasting, and stop for appropriate breaks. The "optional" harder day was the most enjoyable, the beautiful scenery and stunning village of Minerve more than making up for the uphill ride.

I can’t say enough positively about Erwin, who was always aware of us and available for questions. He was always patient with us and writing us to cycle safely. He’s an excellent guide tour guide to leader Good mix of we 16 cyclists I’m glad I had an E-bike as I could not without a lot of strain on my 82-year-old legs with bilateral knee replacements cycle up the long Hills

A wonderful trip overall. The accommodation was very good, especially in Lansac with Chistine. With hindsight, even though we are a bike fit couple in our 70s, we would choose the e-bike option for our next trip. More time for leisure en route! The map apps was good but had a couple of false starts while we got used to it. We highly recommend this trip.

Erwin was great tour leader who went over and above to ensure the group and individuals had a fab experience. The cycle routes were well planned, social evenings were fun and we finished the week with a swim in the Med!!

Getting from England to France

Both England and France boast world-class international airports (such as Heathrow in London and Charles de Gaulle in Paris) with numerous connecting and domestic flights. As a general trend, the popular choice among many tourists embarking on a combined trip to England and France is first to visit England and then head to France. If you’re in this camp, consider flying into Heathrow Airport in London or Manchester Airport to start your trip.

The train system crossing the English Channel between the two countries is highly efficient and the preferred mode of travel for most. If starting in London, the Eurostar train to Paris is direct and is also the fastest, with travel time averaging 2 hours and 16 minutes. If traveling from Folkestone, boarding the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle takes you to Coquelles in Pas-de-Calais in France, which has a travel time of only 35 minutes.

Ridesharing, flying, and carpooling are other popular options for travel across the two countries, depending on urgency, cost, and travel preferences. Research train passes, rent a car, or book flights in advance for good deals.
