Marka Valley is located in Ladakh. Markha Valley is one of the most famous treks of the Ladakh region. It is an amazing trip to get introduced to the magical and remote Buddhistic Kingdom of Ladakh. On this trail you will be experiencing beautiful Buddhist Monasteries, local mountain villages, the high altitude pastures of Nimaling and the high altitude peak Kangyatse.
We will basically be traversing Markha Valley crossing different sceneries and villages of the mountains getting sublime perspectives of ever changing landscapes. As we start in Stok we will trek over different passes at different altitudes (with highest altitude gained being 5150 m (16,896 ft.).
When we reach the fields around Nimaling, you will be meeting nomadic families called Khampa living with and off their groups of Yak and Sheep. We will end the trek in Shang but also quickly get to see Leh, before finally departing back to New Delhi.
DAY 1: Your arrival in New Delhi
Visitors are going to be greeted at the airport and then transfer to a hotel, where you'll be staying overnight.
DAY 2: Domestic flight New Delhi – Leh - Altitude: 3500 m/ 11,482 ft.
Transfer to a domestic airplane terminal where you will travel to Leh. Once you arrived at Leh, you will then be transferred to your inn. Afternoon visit to a cloister inside the town and tour of the Shanti Stupa and Old Fort of Leh.
DAY 3: Tour around Leh
We will drive to visit the Spituk Monastery which is near Leh, with Phyang only 13 km west of Leh. Head back to the inn for a delicious lunch. Evening used at your leisure. Overnight stay in inn.
DAY 4: Trekking day 1 – Stok – Base of Stok La - Trekking Time: 11/2 hours - Altitude: 4820 m/ 15,813 ft.
After a 10 km drive from Leh city, we will reach at Stok where we will visit the Stok Palace and its historical museum that has wonderful Thangkas and expensive gems which is on display. Then we will follow the left bank of the waterway that spills out of Stok Kangri Massif for 2 hours. As we leave the riverbed, we will then rise tenderly to the camp close to a sheepfold.
DAY 5: Trekking day 2– Base of Stok La – Yurutse - Trekking Time: 6 hours, Altitude: 4180 m/ 13,713 ft.
From the sheepfold, we will start a long climb to the Stok La (4900 m/ 13,779 ft.) for 3 hours. After that point the trail will level and afterward we will reach at Rumbak. As we pass through the town we will cross the bridge of the Jingchan River, and go on the trail to Yurutse.
DAY 6: Trekking day 3 – Yurutse – Skiu - Trekking Time: 6 hours - Altitude: 3400 m/ 11,154 ft.
The climb from Yurutse will lead us through pastures, before crossing a little valley. We will then be criss-crossing steeply up to the Ganda La (4900 m/ 13,779 ft.). It takes approx. 3 hours to cross the pass. The long, yet simple plummet around the Shingo Village will take us into a noteworthy chasm. In the wake of dropping for around 2 hours we will finally touch base in Markha Valley and after a couple of hundred meters; we will arrive at the camping area of Skiu.
DAY 7: Trekking day 4 – Skiu – Markha - Trekking Time: 7 hours - Height: 3710 m/ 12,171 ft.
As we move along the simple trail on the right bank of the Markha, a lot of vegetation can be seen along this stretch. We will then cross the river a few times, touching base in the little settlement of Chaluk. In the long run we will be making a short rising at the huge town of Markha. Overnight camp close to the waterway.
DAY 8: Trekking day 5 – Markha – Tchatchutse - Trekking Time: 6 hours - Height: 4250 m/ 13,943 ft.
The trail starts with a rise to the primary valley on the right bank. On the way we will visit the Humlung Monastery, before moving along the right bank and touching base at Hankar Village that sprawls over a few valleys. From the most highest peak of Hankar, we will take after the trail along a stream, then cross an extension to achieve the pasture of Tchatchutse.
DAY 9: Trekking day 6 – Tchatchutse – Nimaling - Trekking Time: 4 hours - Height: 4730 m/ 15,518 ft.
The day starts with a progressive trek with short slopes with the waterway far to the left half of the canyon. We will pass a little lake, then cross a pastureland reaching into Nimaling; a standout amongst the most lovely high valleys inside the Ladakh locale. The Kang Yatse (6400m/ 20,997 ft.) overwhelms the encompassing perspectives of the region. A few troublesome courses lead to the summit.
DAY 10: Trekking day 7 – Nimaling to Shang - Trekking Time: 8 hours - Height: 3640 m/ 11,942 ft. (Over Kongmaru La 5150 m/ 16,896 ft.)
We will start crossing the Markha Valley in criss-cross rising for around 2 hours, which will lead us to the panoramic Kongmaru La. We will then plunge, again in a crisscross manner, to the opposite side of the base of Kongmaru La. The trail proceeds through a restricted chasm. After a few stream intersections, then we will arrived at in Shang. We will likewise visit a little Gompa outside of the town. Overnight camp in Shang.
DAY 11: Shang to Leh - Voyaging Distance: 60 km - Altitude: 3400 m/ 11,154 ft.
We will be picked up by a vehicle that will help us to visit the religious monasteries of Hemis and Thiskey, and also the Shey historical Palace. We will continue with our adventure on to Leh where you will be transferred to your inn, where you will use the night.
DAY 12: You are free for a day in Leh and overnight stay in inn from our end.
DAY 13: Flight from Leh – Delhi
You will be transferred to the local air terminal for your flight to Delhi. Once arrived at Delhi you will then be transported to your inn where you will be staying overnight. This day evening can be used by you for your leisure.
DAY 14: A full day of tour to Old and New Delhi, before being transferred to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
