Guided by a local expert, you’ll stroll narrow, cobbled streets, marvel at landmarks like the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino and the Catedral Basilica Menor, and encounter monuments celebrating local legends such as “Pibe Valderrama.” Ideal for travelers eager to blend history, art, and the friendly spirit of Colombia, the tour’s unique feature is its deep dive into both the city’s indigenous roots and colonial past—a perfect sightseeing adventure for culture enthusiasts.

Once on board the transport, we will head to the outskirts of Santa Marta passing through the main avenues while we received an introduction about the founding of the city.
Our first stop will be La Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, a hacienda of great historical value, built in the 17th century. Its importance lies in the fact that it was the place where the national hero of Colombia, Simón Bolívar, died in 1830.
The hacienda was converted into a museum and features a wide range of historical objects and artifacts related to the life and death of Bolívar. Here, we will take a guided tour of the main house and gardens and learn more about the history of the region and Colombia in general.
We will move towards the center of the city in search of the architectural jewel, The Basilica Cathedral Menor de Santa Marta, an impressive religious building of active worship and a sacred site for many believers.
The cathedral has an impressive façade, with an entrance decorated with columns and arches carved in stone. Currently inside the church are the remains of the founder of the city Rodrigo de Bastidas and there is a wide collection of religious art, including a series of altarpieces and sculptures dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. .
We`ll dive a little deeper into the center of the city to visit the Museo del Oro de Santa Marta, an unmissable stop to learn about the indigenous heritage and the richness of this fertile land.
The museum has a extensive collection of gold objects, which They date from pre-Columbian times and were made by the indigenous cultures that inhabited the Colombian Caribbean region. Among the most outstanding pieces in the museum are masks, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and other objects that demonstrate the skill and mastery of indigenous artisans. We will also have time to roam freely through the building and feel like we are in the colonial era, surrounded by large interior patios, high ceilings and balconies overlooking the street.
The tour continues through the main avenues of the city, making a stop at the monument to “Pibe Valderrama”, where you will have free time to take photos.
The Monument to "Pibe" Valderrama is a bronze statue that pays homage to former Colombian soccer player Carlos "El Pibe" Valderrama, it was inaugurated in 2010 and represents "El Pibe" with his traditional blond hair and his Colombian National Team uniform.
To close this intense tour of the city, we will make a stop at the Taganga viewpoint; from there you can enjoy panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, the Taganga port, and the surrounding area, including theSierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
